  • Patent number: 4329191
Abstract: A process for labelling a system of file folders comprises printing a label for the system, where each printed label is different from other printed labels for the system. Each label has a field in which a set of indicia is printed, where the indicia are both machine and visually readable. The printed indicia is machine read for directing a labeler's application to a file folder flap of individual color coded labels. Each color coded label, as applied, has an indicium corresponding to one of the machine read indicium.

  • Patent number: 4255622
Abstract: A luminous aid for indicating a pre-selected emergency number disposed in proximity to means for indicating the appropriate digits to be used on a telephone dial serves to permit the telephone to be operated without requiring additional illumination. A marking assembly for so preparing the telephone includes a pliant sheet of coated material carrying both a label indicating the emergency number as well as continuously luminous markers for use in marking two digits on the telephone dial.

  • Patent number: 4247999
Abstract: A novel type of preprinted index strip is disclosed for use in microfiche storage panels and similar devices of the type adapted to hold and display index strips along one edge. This new type of index strip greatly expands the choice of identification symbols available to the user from a single preprinted index sheet without requiring a reduction in the size of the identification symbols or prohibiting the same identification symbol from being displayed on both sides of the storage panel.

  • Patent number: 4240848
Abstract: Alphabetic labelling of articles includes the use of a label having on a portion of its face a first set of indicia and on another portion of its face a second set of indicia which relate to the same subject matter as the first set. The second set of indicia is oriented in reverse and upside down relative to the first set. A machine readable code unique to the subject matter of the sets of indicia is located on one of the face portions of the label. The label when folded about its length isolates the two fields and on application to an article, provides visual identification of the article from two of its sides. The label may be provided with a machine readable indicia code which is representative of at least one indicium of either of the sets. An article labelling system may be adapted to read the indicia code and apply as controlled by the reading operation, one or more labels having letters corresponding to the coded indicia.

  • Patent number: 4201403
Abstract: A planar index tab suitable for marking particular pages of a book or the like has one of its surfaces only locally coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive. The portion of the index tab coated with the adhesive is placed in adhesive contact with the page to be marked so that the portion of the index tab not coated with the adhesive projects beyond the margin of the page. Further, an index tab device for storing and dispensing index tabs having a backing sheet which has at least one surface with a low adhesive affinity to the pressure sensitive adhesive locally coating the index tabs. A plurality of index tabs are disposed in spaced apart array on the surface of the backing sheet having low adhesive affinity with the surface of the tabs locally coated with the adhesive in adhesive contact therewith.

  • Patent number: 4050719
Abstract: A color coded indexing system to facilitate filing and retrieval of documents comprising two 10-position digital bars spaced longitudinally from each other on each opposed surface of an edge portion of each document and each successively displaying in its 10 positions the numerals 0-9, with those on the obverse surface closely adjacent the document edge and those on the reverse surface offset inwardly from the edge; and 10 sets of separable color coded single digit tabs with each set having a different color and displaying one of the digits 0-9 in two columns, the righthand column being closely adjacent the longitudinal center line of the strip and the lefthand column being offset laterally from that center line, and transparent windows to the right of each digit, each set being made up of a backing strip of release paper and a strip of transparent film having a coating of pressure sensitive adhesive on its under surface mounted on the backing strip and transversely cut through to the backing strip to provide

  • Patent number: 4000915
Abstract: A diary and reporting device for use particularly in surveys and researches where each member of a continuing panel reports activities, purchases, opinions or the like during repetitive unit periods of time has a folder with top and bottom covers hinged together. When opened flat an information entry sheet composed of a general data section or zone and an item data zone is exposed. The item data zone is keyed or indexed to data entry guide book pages for instructions as to what data to enter for each type of item reported. An entry index facilitates use of the guide book. All components of the folder are removable and/or replaceable, as by means of tabs or edges on each item engaging cooperating slots or pockets in the folder cover, to facilitate regular reporting and periodic changes in the survey information to be gathered.

  • Patent number: 3938268
Abstract: An index system for indexing directories such as telephone books includes a paper guide strip positioned adjacent a film plastic tab strip segmented into a plurality of uniquely identified tabs spaced along the tab strip. The guide and tab strips are coupled to one another along adjacent edges by means of an adhesive transfer strip extending the length of the guide and tab strips along the junction thereof on one side. As tabs are removed for application, the pressure-sensitive adhesive is transferred to the tabs while the guide and transfer strips serve as a guide for positioning the tabs on the pages of the directory.
