Of Terminal Patents (Class 29/863)
  • Patent number: 6530257
Abstract: In order to easily, rapidly and precisely carry out a setting work after exchange of a pressuring unit, a shank module is provided that is capable of integrally exchanging a shank of a pressing unit. The shank module is configured to removably link a main body and a ram. By adopting the universal pressing unit, adjustment after exchange of the pressing unit becomes considerably easier. Additionally, in carrying out a universal design of a terminal-feeding mechanism, improved workability is implemented by linking the setting of press conditions with the feed conditions of a terminal belt. In order to accomplish this goal, an anvil unit of a press mechanism is configured to be detachable from a main body base. Furthermore, a positioning mechanism is provided on the anvil unit. The positioning mechanism positions the setting position of moving elements of a driving mechanism of a terminal-feeding mechanism corresponding to the terminal belt.

  • Patent number: 6460246
Abstract: In order to connect contact surfaces of electric component blanks for layer resistors to at least two elongated, metallic connection leads, elongated, slot-shaped openings are made, e.g., by etching, in a continuous metal sheet to manufacture a connection lead blank. The openings border on later connection leads of the connection blank and cross-struts yet to be removed. In a second step, the connection lead blank is brought into a cassette and seized, whereby one of the cross-struts projects out of the cassette and is separated in a third step, such that the free ends of the parallel-running connection leads project out of the cassette. In a fourth step, the cassette is brought into a bonding or welding device, so that the free ends of the connection leads cover the contact surfaces of a component blank or a multi-component blank and are connected together by a bonding or welding operation. In case a multi-component blank (multi-unit plate) is used, it is then separated into individual components.

  • Patent number: 6453551
Abstract: An improved method of manufacture for wire feed-through devices, wherein a pre-formed tubular seal having a central axial opening for accommodating the wire insulates the wire from the ferrule and provides a tight environmental seal between the ends of the ferrule. The seal is radially compressed and then inserted, either by itself or with the wire, into the central opening of the ferrule so that the seal is maintained in compression between the wire and an inside diameter of the ferrule. In devices where one end of the ferrule opening is enlarged to accommodate one or more filter elements, the seal is positioned in the narrow portion of the ferrule opening, and additionally serves to maintain an inherent concentricity of the wire within the ferrule during installation and attachment of the filter elements, and injection or insertion of encapsulant material into the enlarged portion of the ferrule opening.

Abstract: A wire harness manufacturing method are provided. The pressure welding device for wiring includes a pressure welding unit for pressure-welding wires to connectors and a wiring plate provided with wiring fittings and placed in a position toward which the wires are pulled from the pressure welding unit. The wiring plate and the pressure welding unit are movable in a wire pulling direction. Wires are pressure-welded to one connector by the pressure welding unit. As the connector is pulled toward the wiring plate so as to hook the wires by predetermined wiring fittings. The wires are then pressure-welded to the other connector. After the wires are pressure-welded to the other connector, a continuity test of the wire harness is conducted on the wiring plate. After the wiring, the wiring plate and the pressure welding unit are moved in a wire pulling direction so as to eliminate the slack of the wires.

Abstract: This invention relates to non-metallic, corrosion-resistant strength systems for underwater power and communications systems and methods for terminating such cables. The strength system comprises two non-metallic strength members; each strength member is comprised of at least one glass strand, and each strand is comprised of a plurality of glass filaments that are bound together with a polymeric material. The first strength member is applied in a helical lay over transmission media which forms the core of the cable, and the second strength member is applied over the lay of the first strength member in a helical lay having a circular direction opposite to the lay of the first strength member. The invention further embraces a method of terminating such cables involving the use of an inner termination cone, an adhesive used to secure the strength members onto the inner termination cone, and an outer termination cone which is secured over the inner termination cone and adjoining strength members.

  • Patent number: 6052894
Abstract: A rotatable wire feed drum for use in the assembly of multiple connector wire harnesses includes a rotary drum of a given diameter and an outer circumferential surface which accommodate a plurality of wires. A first wire-clamping assembly is operatively connected to the wire feed drum and selectively clamps the wires to the drum in order to advance them with rotation of the drum. The wire feed drum may be utilized as a wire feed device in a wire harness assembly apparatus between a wire supply device and a wire terminating device. Feeding of selected wires is effected by clamping a set of selected wires to the wire feed drum and simultaneously unclamping a second set of wires at a location spaced from the feed drum and then rotating the wire feed drum.

Abstract: Both ends of a plurality of parallel electrical wires are respectively connected to the connectors with pressure by a pressure-connecting and wiring machine into which the plurality of electrical wires are introduced, and the thus introduced electrical wires are sent to the electrical wire pressure-connecting section via the electrical wire cutting section. At this time, the connectors are successively fed to the electrical wire pressure-connecting section of the pressure-connecting and wiring machine in the direction parallel with the arrangement of the pressure terminals. After the electrical wires have been connected to the connector with pressure, the pressure-connected electrical wires of a predetermined length are drawn out from the pressure-connecting and wiring machine. Then the pressure-connecting and wiring machine is turned round the vertical axis by an angle of 180.degree., and the electrical wires, which have been drawn out before, are connected to the other connector with pressure and cut.

Abstract: An insulation displacement terminal of a high quality and high performance can be produced by designing the terminal in accordance with data measurement under a condition similar to an actual insulation displacement connection. An extent of insertion of an insulation sheath electric cable 6, a distance between a pair of metal blocks 11 and 12 spaced in parallel to each other, and a reaction force and a contact resistance acting between the cable 6 and the spaced metal blocks 11, 12 are measured, respectively, while inserting the cable 6 into a gap between the metal blocks 11 and 12 having a tapered portion on an end of each block. Then, an extent of insertion of the cable .DELTA.2, a gap distance WS2, a reaction force F2, and a contact resistance R2 after completing the insertion are obtained and at the same time an occurrence of broken wires in the cable is judged. These steps are repeated while changing an initial gap WS between the metal blocks 11 and 12.

Abstract: A method of applying twisted wire pairs to an electrical connector is provided. A cable having a plurality of twisted wire pairs is selected for insertion into a selected connector. The twisted wire pairs are untwisted and inserted into the connector in a substantially flat lateral configuration such that the ends of the wires protrude from the connector. Before shearing off the protruding ends of the wires, identification symbols on the wire ends are compared with a standard that indicates a correct symbol identification pattern therefor. Preferably, the protruding ends of the wires are pulled tight against the connector before shearing off the wire ends, to minimize cross-talk. Even more preferably, the connector is crimped concurrently with the shearing off of the wire ends.
