The active lever includes a first engagement piece and a second engagement piece. Abstract: In a vehicle door latch, a motion restriction device is coupled to an auxiliary pawl that is connected to the pawl of a ratchet and pawl combination. The auxiliary pawl must be actuated by one or more release levers in order to actuate the pawl and release the ratchet from a striker-containing position and open the latch. Because the only criterion for selectively prohibiting movement of the auxiliary pawl is its speed, it is possible to prevent the latch from unintentionally opening in a crash situation regardless of the direction the inertial forces of the crash are applied to the latch or the release levers therein or the outside or inside handles.

The threaded portion is formed with a pair of axially aligned grooves. A coupler portion of a latch member is formed with a shaft hole confined by a hole-confining wall for extension of the threaded portion therethrough, and a pair of engaging tongues that extend inwardly and radially from the hole-confining wall and that slidably and respectively engage the slots in the shaft so as to permit sliding movement of the latch member along the length of the shaft and so as to facilitate mounting and removal of the latch member on and from the shaft.

  • Patent number: 6547289
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an improved drawer latch mechanism, particularly suited for attaching to the front side of a drawer. The drawer front latch preferably has a handle with a full-length grip that is sufficiently large so that it may be operated while wearing gloves, holding a towel or other types of hand coverings. The handle is used to open and close the drawer such that the action of pulling on the handle to open the drawer releases spring-loaded latches biased to be in a locked position. Pushing the drawer closed causes catch surfaces of tapered leading ends of the latch to engage with drawer mounting walls of the cabinet and latch the drawer closed.

  • Patent number: 6474703
Abstract: The present invention is a latch for securing a first closure member, such as a lid or cover of an automotive vehicle, in place relative to a second closure member, such as a floor or wall of an automotive vehicle. The latch includes a housing and a handle. The housing includes a channel. The handle includes a handle member, a pawl, a pair of pawl-related biasing members, and a channel-related biasing member. The latch can be opened and closed by grasping and rotating the handle member. The first closure member that is in contact with the latch may be raised by grasping and rotating the handle member upward, and then raising the first closure member upward by way of the handle member. The first closure member may be lowered by grasping and rotating the handle member upward, and then lowering the first closure member downward by way of the handle. Alternatively, the first closure member may be lowered by releasing the handle member when the first closure member is in the raised position.
