  • Patent number: 5360251
Abstract: The molding member provides a substantially vertical wall along either side of the windshield, and a flush surface along the top side of the windshield so that rainwater on the surface of the windshield is prevented from flowing sideways along the side windows of the vehicle, and guided to the roof of the vehicle body. The transition from the middle portion of the molding member to the end portions is so gradual and smooth that it is highly pleasing to the eye, and would not create any undesirable aerodynamic disturbances. In particular, because the vertical walls on either side are defined as a smooth extension of the convex exterior surface of the head portion of the molding member, they can prevent accumulation of snow which otherwise may be produced along the side edges of the windshield as a result of operating a windshield wiper during snowfall but still effectively prevent the flow of rainwater to the side windows of the vehicle during rainfall.

  • Patent number: 5205095
Abstract: A combination of an adhesive-supporting clip and an aluminum or PVC sash with a drop-in light opening for a glass pane. The adhesive-supporting clip serves as the connection between the glass pane mounted in the sash and the sash itself. This is achieved by mounting the clip to the glazing leg of the sash through a mechanical connection on the clip and then dropping the perimeter of the glass pane onto an adhesive applied to an exposed surface of the clip. This permits a glazer to rapidly remove and replace a broken glass pane by simply disengaging the clip and reinstalling either the cleaned old clip or a new glass pane or mounting a new pane directly on the glazing leg.

  • Patent number: 5193875
Abstract: A molding member includes an elongate pre-shaped main body of initially constant cross section, with upper and side portions to continuously extend along respective edges of an automobile windshield plate. The main body covers a gap between the windshield plate and an automobile body panel, and has a reference point which is more spaced from the outer surface of the windshield plate along the side portion than along the upper portion. A lip section of the main body can be maintained in contact with the outer surface of the windshield plate along the upper portion with a first angle, and spaced therefrom along the side portion with a second, less steep angle. A weir of a refined appearance, with desired cross-sectional area or height, is defined along the side portion, between the windshield plate and the lip section, and prevents water on the windshield plate from flowing across the molding member.

Abstract: A windshield molding comprises a pair of extruded side molding parts, a pair of corner molding parts, and an extruded upper molding part integral with and extending between the side and corner molding parts. Each of the molding parts includes an exterior wing and a connecting portion. The exterior wing has an outward wing portion and an inward wing portion for covering the peripheral edge of a vehicle body panel and a peripheral edge of a windshield, respectively. The inward wing portion of each of the side molding part is increased its height to define a space between the peripheral surface of the windshield associated with a side panel. This space serves as a water drain channel for guiding rain water to a predetermined position.

  • Patent number: 5178919
Abstract: An elongate finisher member for automotive vehicles or the like, such as a lower window molding member, includes an elongate main body of predetermined length and cross-section. The main body has a mount portion with openings for passing fasteners to secure the finisher member to a vehicle body. The finisher member further includes a flap element which extends longitudinally along the main body. The flap element has a first end region integrally connected to the main body, and a second end region which is movable between an open position and a closed position. In the open position of the second end region, the flap element maintains the openings in the mount portion accessible from outside to facilitate insertion of fasteners into the openings. In the closed position of the second end region, the flap element covers the mount portion and maintains the openings and fasteners invisible from outside to provide a refined appearance.

Abstract: A molding body interposed between a body panel and a glass panel to prevent stain caused by friction between the abutting portions of the molding body and the body panel includes a main molding, a auxiliary molding, and a holder. The holder has an abutting face for attachment to the body panel and an engaging piece for engaging to a lower engaging portion of the main molding. The holder is attached to the body panel, the main molding is engaged with the holder at the left and right side sections of the molding, and the glass panel is fixed by the auxiliary molding inserted between a head and the upper engaging portion of the main molding. At the upper section of the molding the glass panel is fixed to the lower face of the head of the main molding without using the auxiliary molding. The holder can be formed as a continuous piece or as a number of discrete holder sections.
