  • Patent number: 4858988
Abstract: A vehicular window assembly such as a front windshield in the preferred embodiment includes a window panel and a casing molded on a first portion of the peripheral edge of the window panel. A trim strip covers and finishes portions of the periphery of the assembly. The trim strip extends continuously without interruption from the window panel edge to a mounting rib on the casing through a transition area. The trim continues along the casing and is spaced from the window panel edge. When installed, the casing and trim strip fill the space between the window panel and vehicle body to reduce wind noise when the vehicle is moving and improve weather sealing around the window.

  • Patent number: 4833847
Abstract: A flush mounting molding of the present invention has a strip-shaped head covering a channel formed between a window frame and a windshield glass of an automobile, and a leg, to be inserted and installed into the channel, having a window frame contacting lip and a windshield glass receiving lip and formed integrally and vertically on the bottom surface of the strip-shaped head. The window frame contacting lip is divided into a plurality of window frame contacting lip members by slits in the longitudinal direction thereof, and the length of the window frame contacting lip members is varied in the direction toward the window frame. Thus, some of the window frame contacting lip members contact with the window frame in approximately perpendicular manner. Accordingly, the flush mounting molding does not come out of the channel. Thus, no defective automobile assembly due to the come-out occurs, and the productivity of the automobile assembly is improved.

  • Patent number: 4741542
Abstract: Elastomer injection dry seal construction produced by placing a tube-like flexible elastic body member having a hollow cross-section between spaced part surfaces, particularly between a curved transparency such as an aircraft windshield, and a curved support. The parts are then connected together as by means of bolts passing through aligned bolt holes in the parts, and a curable liquid resin, such as a catalyzed liquid silicone resin, is injected into the hollow interior of the tubular body member, causing it to stretch laterally in the space between the adjacent part surfaces, and to be compressed into engagement with such surfaces. The liquid resin is then cured to a solid elastomeric state. • Patent number: 4496186
Abstract: A sealing structure for an automotive vehicle prevents turbulent air flow around a front pillar and thus reduces noise due to wind. This seal is provided by a weatherstrip which also seals the space between the front pillar and a front door against water. The weatherstrip is provided with an extension extending towards the opening of the above space to close same. The extension lies approximately flush with the outer surfaces of the front pillar and the front door to form a substantially continuous external surface. This continuous external surface around the front pillar improves the aerodynamics of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4448430
Abstract: Sealing strips, such as for sealing around door openings in vehicle bodies, for example. The sealing strip comprises a hollow tubular soft sealing section which is supported around the door opening by means of a channel-shaped gripping section. In order to support the sealing section at positions around the opening where the sealing strip has to be curved or bent, lengths of soft flexible material of generally rectangular cross-section are positioned within the hollow interior of the sealing section at the appropriate positions. Each such length is a relatively loose fit within the hollow interior of the sealing section and is held in position by means of adhesive. The lengths of the soft flexible material prevent partial "collapse" or distortion of the sealing section at the bends or curves, but because they do not fill the hollow interior of the sealing section, they do not impair its compressibility in the sealing direction.

  • Patent number: 4405175
Abstract: A resilient sealing frame having two continuous slots, one for accommodating the periphery of a vehicle window and the other for accommodating a web projecting from the vehicle body into the vehicle opening which accommodates the window. One wall of each slot has a continuous groove, and a pair of closely spaced-apart holes extend from each groove to the exterior surface of the sealing frame. Each groove is flanked by prominent sealing lips which seal against a surface of its respective window or web. The short length of each groove between the pair of holes is plugged, such as with a resilient cord. Fluid cement is injected into one of the holes of each pair; the cement flows through the long length of each groove and when it reaches the other hole of the pair, further injection of cement is terminated, since the groove has been completely filled.
