Patent number: 7422180Abstract: The present invention relates to a magnetic knife stand which comprises one or more slits for inserting knives. On the upper inner side of each inserting slit, one or more magnets are disposed. A hole or a hollow is disposed on the upper inner side of each inserting holes, and the magnet is placed inside the hole or hollow on the upper inner side of the inserting slit. During and after the process of inserting the knives into the knife stand, the magnets will keep the cutting edges of the knives away from the bottom inner sides of the inserting slits, thereby effectively preventing the edges from becoming blunt, which is caused by their rubbing against the inserting slits. The frequency of sharpening the blades can be reduced and the lifespan of the knives can be extended. Further, this magnetic knife stand is more effective in protecting the knife stand from being cut or worn out by the knives. This invention enables the knives to be stored securely in the knife stand.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2005Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Viceversa International LimitedInventor: Siu Nam Tang

Publication number: 20080201960Abstract: A rotary cutter knife provided with a guard member, which extends beyond the outer edge of the rotary blade to enhance the safety. The guard member is divided into two sub-members, which can independently move between an extended position where an outer profile of the sub-member extends beyond an outer edge of the rotary blade and a retracted position where the outer profile of the sub-member is retracted such that the outer edge of the rotary blade is exposed. Thus, the cutting edge of the rotary blade is not exposed in the area where the cutting operation is not performed, and the cutting edge is exposed only in a limited area associated with the cutting operation, such that the highly enhanced safety is realized.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 21, 2008Publication date: August 28, 2008Applicant: OLFA CORPORATIONInventor: Toshiyuki WATANABE

Publication number: 20070266569Abstract: A locking sheath and knife combination is provided that includes a spring biased member that partially extends out of the handle of the knife and interacts with a catch on the sheath for securing the knife to the sheath. When the user wants to extract the knife from the sheath, the spring biased member is squeezed as the handle is grabbed, which rotates the spring biased member to be substantially fully contained within the handle of the knife, and is secured there by lock spring plate. When the knife is inserted back into the sheath, a protrusion on the sheath interacts with the lock spring plate to automatically allow the spring biased member to rotate out of the handle, thereby securing the knife to the sheath.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2006Publication date: November 22, 2007Inventor: John P. Patent number: 6457240Abstract: An anti-detachment structure for a knife and knife sheath, including a knife and a knife sheath. The knife has a fixing section and the knife sheath is provided with a resilient member and a linearly movable driving block. By means of coordinate operation of the driving block, resilient member and fixing section, the knife can be easily extracted out of the knife sheath.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2001Date of Patent: October 1, 2002Inventor: Yen-Fei Liu

Publication number: 20020133952Abstract: The invention provides a blade guard comprising an elongated member of resilient material that has a longitudinal axis. The member has a portion of an outer surface extending parallel to the longitudinal axis and spaced from the axis. An elongated slit defined in the member includes slit walls defined by the resilient material. The slit extends in a plane extending from the portion of the outer surface inwardly of the member and parallel to the longitudinal axis. The member is adapted to engage the blade of a knife within the slit of the member and the resilience of the material of the slit walls is sufficient for the member to be held on the blade so as to cover a portion of a cutting edge of the blade.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 2002Publication date: September 26, 2002Inventor: Edwin Kenny

Patent number: 6442843Abstract: A knife and sheath assembly includes a knife having a handle and a blade and a sheath having a cavity for releasably receiving the knife blade in a storage condition. A first end portion of the blade is adjustably mounted in the handle and a second end portion including a cutting edge protrudes from the handle. The blade is movable between a first, retracted position in which a first length of the blade protrudes from the handle and a second, extended position in which a second length of the blade longer than the first length protrudes from the handle. A releasable latch member on the handle releasably locks the knife blade in the first and second positions, and the sheath cavity is designed to receive the portion of the knife blade which protrudes from the handle in the retracted position, such that the overall length of the assembly is reduced when the knife is sheathed.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2001Date of Patent: September 3, 2002Inventors: Michael C. Jue, Alan K. Uke, Jeffery D. Arnett

Patent number: 6434838Abstract: Protective sheath for saw teeth of a handsaw, including a base section, a protective slat and multiple magnetic members. The base section has an upper edge and a lower edge marked with British and metric system scales. The protective slat integrally extends from the lower edge of the base section to define a protective slot. The multiple magnetic members are inlaid in the base section beside the protective slot at predetermined positions for attracting the saw blade. This invention has a better attractively fixing effect. The protective sheath is applicable to different kinds of handsaws with various patterns of handles. In addition, the protective sheath also serves as a ruler.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2001Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Inventor: Hsiao-feng Mai
