  • Patent number: 4446620
Abstract: The invention relates to a tube cutter, especially for plastic tubes, which comprises a housing that can surround the tube and having a rotation guide gripping the tube. The tube cutter has a cutting tool which can be sunk into the outer surface of the tube, having a lengthwise guide and a tool holder movable therein. The cutting tool has a cutting edge which runs at an angle to the direction of movement of the tool holder and lies substantially in a plane passing through the rotational axis. By these means it is possible to produce bevels with the cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4422238
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cutting tool which is utilized to sever a cylindrical body such as a cylindrical shroud of a factory-sealed vehicular suspension system of the type commonly referred to as a MacPherson strut suspension system. The tool is designed with a construction which permits the tool to sever the cylindrical shroud while the shroud remains attached to the vehicle. The tool comprises an upper control mechanism which is mechanically coupled to a lower cutting assembly by means of a pair of coaxial elongate tubes. The lower cutting assembly includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced, rotatable cutting wheels which are radially movable between a retracted position and an expanded position. The upper control mechanism determines the radial position of the cutting wheels by controlling the relative rotative position between the two elongate tubes.

  • Patent number: 4403415
Abstract: A window shade cutter includes an elongated tubular shade holder which is clamped onto a rolled shade, and an elongated tubular collar which is rotatably coupled to the shade holder. A guillotine cutter subassembly is supported on the collar which defines a guide supporting a blade holder and cutting blade in an enclosed fashion. The shade cutter is preferably mounted on a rolled shade at the point of manufacture and packaged as a unit therewith.

  • Patent number: 4385514
Abstract: A pipe assembly tool adapted to swedge a ring onto the overlap of a pair of telescoped pipes for securing them together, comprises a pair of aligned swedge die blocks, each having opposed semicircular channels of semicircular cross section, adapted to receive a ring of circular cross-section upon the overlap of a pair of telescoped pipes. A power cylinder has a cross head which mounts a pair of die supports at their one ends. The die blocks span and are mounted upon the die supports at their other ends. A piston rod connects one of the die blocks for moving it into operative compression relative to the other die block, the ring forming concentric channels in the pipes, a peripheral seal therebetween, a bead in one pipe nested within a channel of the other pipe, the ring being nested and interlocked within one channel.

  • Patent number: 4384405
Abstract: This invention relates to a cylinder cutting tool which is utilized to sever the upper end of a cylindrical housing of a factory-sealed vehicular suspension system of the type commonly referred to as a MacPherson strut suspension system. The tool includes a main body portion having a main arm, a second arm, and a clamp for supporting the tool on the piston rod of the original shock absorber for controlling the rotation of the tool. A rotatable cutting wheel assembly is slidably movable relative to the main support arm. The cutting wheel may be moved into and out of engagement with the cylinder by a suitable lead screw actuatable by rotating a hand grip mounted on the outer end of the main arm. The cutting line at which the cylinder is severed may be controlled by providing a plastic adapter element of a predetermined thickness for supporting the rotating tool on top of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4139941
Abstract: This invention is directed to a window shade cutter for manually trimming the end of a rolled shade to conform to the size of the window opening into which the shade is to be mounted. The cutter includes a cylindrical clamping sleeve, having an annular guide groove at one end thereof, adapted to slip over the shade and clamp in place and a cutoff tool receivable in the guide groove including a generally planar U-shaped holder and a planar blade mounted on the holder. In a preferred form, the blade has a rounded, dull end with a central V-shaped notch therein in which a pair of cutting edges are located. The cutoff tool is adapted to interlock in the guide groove and to rotate about the shade with cutting of the shade taking place in the V-shaped notch a few layers at a time as the tool is urged towards the shade and rotated. In accordance with the invention disclosed, window shades can be safely and easily trimmed by the consumer in the home thus eliminating the need for cutting machines.

  • Patent number: 4114266
Abstract: An apparatus and method for cutting rolled window shades, and the rollers on which they are mounted, includes a shade holder having a generally cylindrical tubular handle with a longitudinal central opening and a disc-like, annular cutting guide extending transversely outward from the end of the handle. In one form of the apparatus, the handle and guide are longitudinally split into two pieces and hinged at one side of the guide so the shade holder can swing open to receive a shade. In another form, the handle and guide are slotted longitudinally so as to be diametrically variable. A generally annular blade holder has a circumferential guide groove opening inwardly towards the center of the blade holder for engaging the outwardly-extending cutting guide on the shade holder. The blade holder supports a blade having a cutting edge positioned normal to the longitudinal axis of the shade holder and adjacent the end of the shade holder.

  • Patent number: 4063355
Abstract: A cutter for a helically corrugated tube in which a pair of rings are connected by a blade carrier to form a track around the tube. Each of the rings comprises a pair of "C" members hingedly connected at one end and releasably connectable at the other end to form the ring. Each "C" member has a pair of rails supporting a circumferentially movable carrier having rollers at each end engaging the rails of the adjacent pair of rings. A holder on the carrier projects outwardly between the rails. A yoke in the holder carries the cutting blade; a compression spring in the holder drives the yoke and blade toward the tube. A threaded cup on the holder adjusts the compression spring and also provides a handle recess.
