Abstract: The invention as presently conceived discloses a plumbing pipe cutter with an integral means of directing away residual water after a pipe is cut. The device comprises a conventional, low profile pipe cutter that is commonly used to cut copper water supply lines. Other cutters designed for polyvinylchloride (PVC) or other types of piping can likewise be adapted. The apparatus is further comprised of a transparent shield around the entire perimeter of the cutter and extending onto either pipe. At one end of the shield, approximately 8-10 inches from the cutter, the transparent material is flexibly gathered and routed to a short section of PVC tubing. The distal end of the tubing has a hose connector onto which a standard hose would be attached. When the apparatus is fully installed, residual water in cut pipes is collected and directed away without harming the surrounding areas.

Abstract: A tool for beveling the end of a pipe is comprised of a hollow, tubular body having a central, longitudinal axis of rotation, an inboard coupling end, and an opposite outboard working end. A plurality of longitudinally spaced, transversely directed latching pin bores of equal size are defined through the wall of the tubular body. A core member is disposed coaxially within the tubular body. The core member includes a beveling cutter head and a longitudinal stem having a radially inwardly directed, circumferential latch position groove. A transversely oriented latching pin is engaged in a selected one of the latching pin bores in the body and with the latch position groove of the core stem. Abstract: A device blocks the flow of fluid in a pipe so that work can be done on the pipe downstream of the device. The device includes an installation unit and a blocking unit. The installation unit is sealed against the ambient when mounted on the pipe to permit drilling a hole into the pipe and the blocking unit includes an expandable body which is passed through the installation unit and on through the hole in order to temporarily block the flow of fluid in the pipe. The expandable body has a larger diameter than the internal diameter of a channel in the installation unit. The blocking unit includes a rod mounted in the holder to which a manual force is applied for distending the expandable body before insertion so that the expandable body has a diameter less than the diameters of both the channel and the hole thereby facilitating passage of the expandable body through the channel and hole into the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5345682
Abstract: A tube cutter mechanism supports an arm from which a tube supporting anvil extends, the anvil being aligned with the tube cutter mechanism for cutting the supoorted tube. During cutting, an axial force is imposed on the tube and anvil. The arm is formed such that it bends in response to the force, storing energy such that rotation of the tube occurs for more than one revolution of the tube without advancing the cutter wheel. The device is formed of molded glass fiber reinforce nylon, preferably ZYTEL. In a second embodiment, the arm does not bend and the anvil is constructed so as to bend relative to the arm in response to the axial cutting force permitting rotation of the tube during cutting beyond a single revolution without advancing the cutter wheel. The anvil advantageously does not have a cutter wheel for burnishing the tube to remove oxides during cutting.

Abstract: A tubing cutter comprising a pair of arms pivotally connected together adjacent one end, with the opposite ends of the arms free. Such opposite end of one of the arms has thereon a rotatably mounted cutting wheel, and upon the opposite end of the other of the arms at least one roller is utilized, in opposed operative relationship to the cutting wheel. A tightening arrangement, preferably in the form of a finger operated wheel mounted on a dually threaded shaft, is utilized for enabling the user to draw the free ends of the arms together, so as to force the cutting wheel into cutting contact with a piece of tubing placed between the rotary cutter and the rollers. Thus, upon relative rotation occurring between the cutting wheel and the tubing, the severing of the tubing can be readily brought about. Preferably a spring bias arrangement is utilized, which serves to assist the tube severing procedure by biasing the cutting wheel into firm contact with the tubing to be cut.

Abstract: A pipe cutter is disclosed in which a housing carries a disk which is rotated selectively in a forward direction or in a reverse direction by a power drive. The disk has a pipe receiving slot extending to the central axis of rotation of the disk for receiving a pipe to be cut. A cutter blade and rotatable roller are disposed on the disk in symmetrical locations about the central axis of rotation, the cutter blade being adapted to move linearly into and out of contact with the pipe which is inserted into the receiving slot. The roller, which preferably is a pair of spaced rollers, is engageable with the outer peripheral surface of the pipe at a location generally opposite to the location of the cutter. A holder for supporting the cutter blade is mounted on the disk for rotation therewith about the central axis of rotation and is also mounted for linear motion toward and away from the central axis of rotation.

Abstract: A device for cutting flexible tubing includes a support member attached to a wall surface in fixed stationary position. The support member has a shelf projecting horizontally therefrom across which the tubing to be cut is laid. An adjustable end abutment member locates the end face of the tube as it lies across the shelf. A blade which has pointed end projects forwardly from the support member above the shelf and has a sharpened edge facing upwardly away from the shelf. In operation the user manually grasps the tubing on either side of the self and pushes the tubing rearwardly across the shelf toward the support member so that it engages the blade which punctures the tubing. With the tubing held in position against the shelf, an abutment surface on the support member and the end abutment member, the tubing is manually rotated to provide a cut lying exactly in a plane at right angles to the axis of the tubing.

Abstract: A method and device for the opening of breakable ampules, especially glass test tubes, includes a scoring tool for scratching the end which can be removed by a break-off device. A clean scratching of the ampule end can be executed, producing a smooth fracture by applying an ever constant force exerted on the ampule ends, in order to avoid lengthwise scratches in the body of the ampule from internal stresses. For this, an ampule receiver is provided, into which the ampule can be introduced as far as a stop. It is then rotated while lodged herein with the end of the ampule against the scoring tool. Abstract: An automatic feed system for a tube cutter is disclosed which automatically feeds a cutting tool into a tube and also automatically resets the cutting tool to its initial position once the tube has been cut. The automatic feed system has a cam element rotatably mounted in a cutting head defining a cam surface eccentric with respect to the axis of rotation of the cam element. A cam follower is formed on a cutting arm which is pivotally attached to the cutting head and has a cutting wheel attached thereto. The eccentric cam surface includes a substantially flat surface portion which lies in a plane extending substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the cam element which, when contacted by the cam follower, allows the pivot arm to assume an initial, retracted position. As the cam element rotates, the eccentric cam surface and the cam follower urge the cutting wheel into the tube wall.
