Abstract: A three-dimension inductor structure formed in a conventional integrated circuit technology has a direction of magnetic field perpendicular to the normal direction of the substrate of an applied integrated circuit. Due to the direction of the magnetic field, the electromagnetic interference induced by the three-dimension inductor structure affects other components in the same integrated circuit slightly. The three-dimension inductor structure includes an N-turn coil. Each turn coil in the N-turn coil includes a first-level metal line, a second-level metal line and third-level metal line. The three levels of metal lines are separated from one another by isolating layers. Two nearby levels of metal lines are connected through via plugs in the isolating layers between them. The integral coil is accomplished by connecting the second-level metal line of the Nth turn coil to the third-level metal line of the (N+1)th turn coil.

  • Patent number: 6005463
Abstract: A device for electrically interconnecting the wire leads of various electronic elements within a microminiature package. A non-conducting base member having a plurality of electronic element barriers and wire lead through-holes is provided. The through-holes are generally located within the interior regions of the base element to minimize potentially detrimental field interactions or capacitive coupling between the leads and the external package terminals. During package assembly, the electronic elements are placed within recesses created within the base member by the aforementioned barriers. These recesses and barriers align the elements and help maintain electrical separation and uniformity during manufacturing. The wire leads from two or more elements are interconnected by twisting them together and inserting them into one of the through-holes.

Abstract: An arrangement for attaching electrical inductive components to a terminal block of a mounting base utilizes interlocking male and female plug-in connections. In instances where the electrical inductive components are measuring transformers, the arrangement accommodates higher electric currents in the area of several amperes seen in the primary winding because a galvanic connection is established simultaneously when the mechanical connection is made. Accordingly, the wiring of the primary circuit is made rapidly and without the possibility of faulty coupling. As the number of electrical inductive components increases, the arrangement disclosed provides compact construction.

Abstract: A membrane type integrated inductor includes an integrated inductor laid out on the upper plane of a membrane. The process to manufacture a membrane type integrated inductor includes the following steps: forming a thin dielectric layer at the outer portion of a substrate; forming a wire-wound integrated inductor thin dielectric layer with the known technique; defining an open window on the back of the substrate below the inductor through the backside etch; and forming a membrane type integrated inductor by using the thin dielectric layer on the silicon substrate as the etching stop. One embodiment uses silicon dioxide as the membrane layer. The low dielectric constant of SiO.sub.2 may be used to lower the power loss during the lay out of the circuit parts, to effectively raise the induction value, to lower the parasitic capacitance, to increase the resonance frequency, to decrease the volume of the chip which the inductor utilized, and to raise the quality factor.

Abstract: An inductive electric component, in particular an electric transformer, includes a coil body having coil body flanges defining a winding space, and contact pin strips integrally formed onto the coil body flanges, the contact pin strips having extensions and having free ends with undercuts formed therein being limited outwardly by the extensions. A two-part magnet core has halves with center bosses to be pushed together on the coil body with the center bosses engaging the coil body and resting on the coil body flanges and on the contact pin strips. A spring cap is to be slipped onto the magnet core disposed on the coil body for retaining the magnet core halves on the coil body. The cap has a yoke with a middle region. The yoke is concave at least in the middle region, and the yoke has legs on two opposite sides and spring hoops on two other opposite sides. The legs each have detent protrusions locking into the undercuts with the spring cap slipped on.

Abstract: An easy to assemble transformer for use in an electronics module of an electric vehicle. The transformer can be assembled from the "top down," thus alleviating the need to build the transformer as a subassembly unit. During manufacture of the transformer, windings are wound onto a thermally conductive coil form. Next upper and lower E-shaped core members are inserted into openings in the top and bottom of the form so that the side legs and the center legs of the E's touch and are in alignment. The thermally conductive coil form has a portion that touches a cold plate when the transformer is mounted on the cold plate. The transformer is further secured to the cold plate by a mounting bracket.

  • Patent number: 5455552
Abstract: A common mode choke has a generally rectangular ferrite body for surface mounting on a printed circuit board. First and second spaced apart slotted openings extend vertically between the top face and the bottom face of the ferrite body. At least one pair of electrical conductors extend along parallel paths from the bottom face through the first slotted opening to the top face, along a portion of the top face, and back down through the second slotted opening to the bottom face. One pair of opposing side faces preferably has lower portions extending outwardly past a plane of the bottom face to thereby serve as a support to mount the bottom face of the ferrite body in spaced relation from the circuit board. The electrical conductors may then extend outwardly from the bottom face of the ferrite body for electrical connection through corresponding openings of a circuit board or extend laterally outwardly for electrical connection to corresponding portions of the circuit board in a gull wing configuration.

  • Patent number: 5291172
Abstract: A noise absorber provided with a fixture disposed at a flank of a body, thereby improving the positionability of the noise absorber and easy access thereto for handling. The body and the fixture are integrally connected by engaging a first engaging portion provided on the body with a second engaging portion on the fixture. When the body and the fixture are connected, the bottom of the body and the bottom surface of the fixture are at the same height, thereby coordinately supporting the noise absorber on a chassis or a printed board. Since the fixture is provided at the flank of the body on the same level, the height of the noise absorber as a whole is reduced. The noise absorber is thus advantageous for positioning in a location with limited space. Moreover, since the fixture to be handled is positioned at the flank of the body for easy access, the noise absorber of this invention can be easily fitted or disassembled.
