  • Patent number: 8063750
Abstract: Systems and methods for forming a local network (150) include determining which controllable (120) and controlling (170, 180) devices are located within a local area (110). A controller (130) is configured to communicate with the controllable and controlling devices and to include local devices to the local network (150) associated with the local area, while preventing remaining devices from being associated with the local network. The controller may be further configured to automatically reconfigure itself and/or the local controlling device(s) to properly be commissioned to control the local controllable device(s), such as based on the number and/or type of the local controlling devices allowed to join the local network. The controller distinguishes and determines the local controllable and controlling devices by RF signals, IR signals and/or sonar signals, such as based on time of flight and received signal strength of the RF signals.

  • Patent number: 8063751
Abstract: A graphical indicator, menu and method for modifying and displaying more than two states for the indicator is provided. An alarm indicator algorithm modifies and displays the indicator according to user-selectable options that enables a user to determine at first glance the nature of the next alarm and in particular when an alarm is not set to go off on a particular day to avoid accessing the alarm menu every time this knowledge is desired or whenever the user is uncertain of the settings. Various visual cues such as color, graphical and textual elements can be used and the algorithm can associate these cues with appropriate alarm states. When the number of settings for the multi-state alarm is relatively large, a desktop web-based application program interface (API) may be used to facilitate setting and updating the alarm functions.

  • Publication number: 20110254370
Abstract: A wireless annunciator for an electrical generator displays data regarding operation of the electrical generator to provide feedback to a remote observer regarding performance of the electrical generator in meeting the demands placed thereon. The wireless annunciator wirelessly receives transmissions from one or more wireless modules and displays information based on the data contained in the transmissions. The wireless modules may be associated with sensors, for example, that measure various performance parameters of the electrical generator, such as current draw, fuel level, fuel pressure, and the like. A load management controller can communicate with one or more load-side modules, either wirelessly or across wired links, to control operation of one or more loads to avoid overloading of the electrical generator.

  • Patent number: 7886964
Abstract: A system allows consumers the ability to remotely transmit order and/or payment preference data to a vendor to facilitate sales transactions. A personal transmitter or key fob functions to transmit a signal to the vendor when the customer approaches the vendor, which signal comprises preferred order information for vendor processing. The vendor may acknowledge order receipt, generate the order, and automatically submit the transaction for payment through a secure connection. A web site acknowledges receipt of the payment request, retrieves specific transaction information for the target vendor, and processes the payments electronically. Customer information, vendor preferences and encrypted Customer payment specific pointers are downloaded to the personal transmitter on an ongoing basis and stored as encrypted data. If multiple vendors are within the proximity of the consumer, the transmitter will signal an error and list the vendors to the consumer, from which list the target vendor may be selected.

  • Patent number: 7889051
Abstract: Location-Based Addressing (LBA) is a method of controlling and commissioning networked lighting devices. The lighting devices communicate over a wireless network using radio frequency communication protocols. The lighting devices are commissioned or grouped based on their respective locations in a building floor plan or a building architecture. The lighting devices are commissioned to respond to radio frequency communications that correspond to their respective locations. This imposed location-based architecture reduces the amount of transmitted data required to control the lighting devices and, thus, reduces the radio bandwidth required to control the lighting devices. In other words, controlling devices “multicast” instructions and controlled devices “listen” for instructions and act only upon instructions that correspond to their respective location. Hand shaking or two-way communication between the controlling devices and the controlled devices is not required.

  • Patent number: 7561024
Abstract: A method of operating an ad-hoc network having a plurality of wireless nodes includes operating the wireless nodes using a routing protocol, such as OLSR, so that the wireless nodes store forward multi-point relay (MPR) spanning tree routes and reverse MPR spanning tree routes. A first wireless node communicates with a second wireless node using a reverse MPR spanning tree route. The method further includes determining whether the reverse MPR spanning tree route has become unavailable between the first and second wireless nodes and that no other reverse MPR spanning tree route has yet become available, and, if so, using at least portions of a forward MPR spanning tree route for communication between the first and second wireless nodes. The symmetric OLSR approach may be effective in avoiding unnecessary route drops caused by the interaction between distribution-of-topology-change-information conditions and exclusively routing via the destination node's reverse-MPR-spanning tree.

Abstract: A method and system for remotely monitoring the operation of a multicylinder, turbocharged reciprocating engine includes monitoring one or more operating parameters predictive of the turbocharger's output, and generating a parametric output signal corresponding to the value of the sampled operating parameter. The parametric output signal is transmitted via telemetry to a remote diagnostic center, where actual mass flow is determined with a flow detection system, and then the charge air mass flow is compared with a predetermined flow rate corresponding to the monitored operating parameter, such as turbocharger speed or turbocharger pressure ratio. A condition flag is set if the actual charge air flow rate is less than a predetermined flow rate based upon the parametric output signal.
