Abstract: An identification system is provided for a vehicle-implement system wherein a selected one of a plurality of different implements is coupled to the vehicle. Each of the plurality of implements has a unique corresponding component or actuator. A component sensor senses a condition of the component, such as the position of the piston of a hydraulic cylinder. The sensor generates a sensor signal which has a signal characteristic (such as a frequency) which has a plurality of values. each frequency value is unique to a corresponding one of the components. A signal processing unit receives the sensor signal and identifies the selected implement as a function of the value of the characteristic of the sensor signal.

  • Patent number: 9170913
Abstract: Three dimensional accelerometer data is used to determine a slope the vehicle is traveling over at a specific point in time. The slope data can then be combined with other metrics to provide an accurate, slope corrected vehicle mass. The vehicle mass can then be used along with other vehicle data to determine an amount of work performed by a vehicle, enabling a detailed efficiency analysis of the vehicle to be performed. To calculate slope, horizontal ground speed (VHGS) can be calculated using the Pythagorean Theorem. One can take the Z/Up magnitude and divide it by the horizontal ground speed. Replacing z, x and y with directional vectors enables one to calculate slope. The slope data is then used to determine the mass of the vehicle at that time. Previous techniques to calculate mass did not factor in slope, and thus are not accurate.

  • Patent number: 8970360
Abstract: An apparatus for performing a display indicating a state of fuel efficiency of a vehicle according to a driving operation, detects an operating state of the vehicle according to a driving operation performed by a driver of the vehicle. A score for representing the state of fuel efficiency of the vehicle according to the driving operation is determined. Here, the score is allocated to correspond to the operating state. A display indicating the score is performed as the display indicating the state of fuel efficiency. The allocation of the score to the operating state of the vehicle is changed according to a value obtained by accumulating the score. For example, the allocation of the score to the operating state is changed such that the score is lower as the value obtained by accumulating the score is higher. Thus, a degree of strictness with which the score is marked is higher as the level of the driving skill represented by the accumulated value is higher.

Abstract: A driving support apparatus is provided that supports driving of a vehicle that is traveling on a road. In the apparatus, a cruising lane on the road is detected. When the cruising lane cannot be detected, an extrapolation cruising lane formed by extrapolating a previously detected cruising lane is set. A length of time over which the extrapolation cruising lane is set is decided based on the distance between the previously detected cruising lane and the vehicle and/or a lateral speed of the vehicle. Furthermore, whether or not the vehicle will deviate from the detected cruising lane or the set extrapolation cruising lane within a reference time that is set in advance is determined. Driving support is performed based on the determination result.

Abstract: A novel privacy control-adjustable vehicle monitoring system and a related method of operation provide a dynamically-adjustable access grant or denial of privacy-sensitive vehicle information to a vehicle monitoring personnel based on a driver's response to an electronic request made by the vehicle monitoring personnel. In one embodiment, vehicle information is categorized into a mandatory disclosure dataset and a privacy-adjustable dataset, wherein the mandatory disclosure dataset is disclosed to the vehicle monitoring personnel at all times, while the privacy-adjustable dataset is accessible if the driver grants access via a driver's user interface on an onboard vehicle user interface, or on a mobile electronic device. Furthermore, a special wild card mode visible to the driver enables the vehicle monitoring personnel to access an entire set of vehicle information for a limited period per access and for a limited number of accesses per period, based on a pre-arranged consent with the driver.

  • Patent number: 8965640
Abstract: Real time determination of current vs. optimum performance in a track-type tractor is complex and requires information about both a state of the tractor and the operating environment, such as soil conditions. Presenting such data to an operator creates a problem of conveying sufficient information without undue complexity. A three part display for an operator shows a full range of performance, a subset range of performance associated with peak performance that is overlaid on the full range of performance, and a current performance indicator also overlaid on the full range of performance, such that peak performance is achieved when the current performance indicator is centered on the subset range of performance. The subset range of performance may move over the full range of performance to indicate operating conditions favoring a particular condition, e.g., low slip. An operator may then effect a change by adjusting, for example, speed or load.
