  • Patent number: 9443147
Abstract: Many internet users consume content through online videos. For example, users may view movies, television shows, music videos, and/or homemade videos. It may be advantageous to provide additional information to users consuming the online videos. Unfortunately, many current techniques may be unable to provide additional information relevant to the online videos from outside sources. Accordingly, one or more systems and/or techniques for determining a set of additional information relevant to an online video are disclosed herein. In particular, visual, textual, audio, and/or other features may be extracted from an online video (e.g., original content of the online video and/or embedded advertisements). Using the extracted features, additional information (e.g., images, advertisements, etc.) may be determined based upon matching the extracted features with content of a database. The additional information may be presented to a user consuming the online video.

  • Patent number: 9432718
Abstract: Systems and methods for synchronizing the playback of streamed content on multiple playback devices is disclosed. The systems and methods include receiving time information based on a network time source in the playback devices connected to a defined network. The playback clock in each playback device is set based upon the time information. A first playback device then generates presentation time information including a start time for playback and broadcast the presentation time information to the other playback device over the defined network. The playback devices use the presentation time information to adjust the presentation time stamps of the frames of the media content in the stream.

  • Patent number: 9368106
Abstract: Systems and methods automatedly evaluate a transcription quality. Audio data is obtained. The audio data is segmented into a plurality of utterances with a voice activity detector operating on a computer processor. The plurality of utterances are transcribed into at least one word lattice with a large vocabulary continuous speech recognition system operating on the processor. A minimum Bayes risk decoder is applied to the at least one word lattice to create at least one confusion network. At least conformity ratio is calculated from the at least one confusion network.

  • Patent number: 9300463
Abstract: Techniques to operate circuitry in an integrated circuit are provided. The circuitry may include a receiver circuit and one of the provided techniques includes receiving a data stream at the receiver circuit. The receiver circuit may include a detector circuit that is used to determine the data rate of the received data stream. A controller block in the receiver circuit may accordingly configure a deserializer circuit in the receiver circuit based on the data rate of the received data stream. The circuitry may further include a transmitter circuit for transmitting data streams. The transmitter circuit may be configured during runtime based on the data rate of a data stream that is being transmitted. In some instances, irrespective of the data rate of the data stream being transmitted, a constant reference clock may be used in the transmitter circuit.

  • Patent number: 9258101
Abstract: An apparatus for communication. A headend supports a plurality of customer premises equipment (CPEs) in a cable service network. An NCP carrier selector selects at least one orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) subcarrier taken from a radio frequency (RF) spectrum available for broadcasting signals over the cable service network using a plurality of profiles, wherein each selected OFDM subcarrier comprises a corresponding bit loading for each supported profile that meets or exceeds a minimum number of bits used for delivering next codeword pointer (NCP) messages that is acceptable for each of a plurality of profiles used in the plurality of CPEs for receiving signals over the cable service network. A profile generator generates an NCP profile identifying one or more selected OFDM subcarriers, wherein the NCP profile indicates which OFDM subcarriers within the RF spectrum are usable to carry NCP messages, and an associated bit loading for each selected subcarrier.

  • Patent number: 9210470
Abstract: A client device receives streaming first media from a content delivery network (CDN). The client device executes a media player to play the streaming first media, and receives a first input from a user of the client device that marks a first censoring start time and a first censoring stop time associated with a first portion of the first media that the user wishes to censor. The client device further receives a second input from the user that includes a reason that justifies censoring the first portion of the first media, and stores the first censoring start time and the first censoring stop time in association with data corresponding to the second input from the user in a cut profile for the first media. The client device sends the cut profile for the first media to a content management server in the CDN.

  • Patent number: 8869187
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to determine audience viewing of recorded programs are disclosed. An example method disclosed herein comprises processing first bus information obtained by monitoring a bus of a time shifting device to determine a record time corresponding to when the time-shifting device stored data associated with first media content being recorded for later presentation, processing second bus information obtained by monitoring the bus of the time shifting device to determine a playback time corresponding to when the time-shifting device later retrieved the data to present the recorded first media content, and estimating a possible distribution time corresponding to when the first media content was initially distributed to the time-shifting device based on a difference between the playback time and the record time.

  • Patent number: 7664951
Abstract: A transmitting apparatus adapted to effectively use the band for transferring programs of television broadcasting. A program of a first channel transmitted from the transmitting side can be viewed in real time on the receiving side. A program of a second channel is transmitted to the receiving side in advance in a time zone of lower audience rate than other time zones and stored in a storage device of the receiving side. Each program to be stored is encrypted. When a provision time of a program comes, the data such as a key are transmitted from the transmitting side to the receiving side along with the program data of the first channel. The receiving side extracts the data such as a key and, by use of the extracted data, provides the program stored in the storage device to viewers.
