  • Patent number: 8908198
Abstract: A system and method for automatically rendering labeling service prints with print engine parameters. An auto-labeling application can be configured in association with a print engine controller for labeling the service prints with the print engine parameters via a built-in marker integrated with a fault multi-function device. A portable inline marker can also be separately attached to a baffle assembly of the fault device and connected to the print engine controller via a connector in order to receive the print engine parameters from the print engine controller. A setup routine configured with the auto-labeling application can be employed to customize the service print labels in a modular format and the parameters can be appended to each other based on the information required to troubleshoot the fault multi-function device.

  • Patent number: 8902482
Abstract: A first color conversion unit converts non-subtractive image data into subtractive image data. An overprint detection unit detects whether overprinting is specified for the subtractive image data. A drawing processing unit performs overprint processing for the subtractive image data if a color value of a foreground object, for which overprinting is specified, indicates that a region where the foreground object overlaps a background object is colored, and an underlying region of the background object behind the foreground object is colored. The color value of an overlapping region is overwritten with the color value of the foreground object. The overlapping region is not overwritten if the region where the foreground object overlaps the background object is colorless. A second color conversion unit converts image data subsequent to the overprint processing into image data having output colors in accordance with characteristics of the image forming apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8879118
Abstract: As set forth herein, computer-implemented methods and systems facilitate detecting non-uniformities (e.g., streaks or other defects) in a scanned image, and correcting the non-uniformities while accounting for geometric distortion therein. For instance a scanned image may include a light streak (e.g., higher L* values than expected) down the page at a given distance from a page edge. Paper shrinkage may also cause the image to be magnified relative to the page. Correction values (e.g., L* knockdown values or the like) are generated to bring the non-uniform L* values down to a darker level. To account for the magnification of the image, the correction values are electronically registered to uniformity data for the page, and applied at the correct location to account for the magnification. The corrected image is then printed by a marking device.

Abstract: A component of a color printing system, such as lookup tables for converting requested marking-agent coverages to corresponding half-tone screen sizes, is calibrated. The calibration can be effected off an arbitrary image and involves making reflectance spectrum measures of the printed image at multiple locations. Expected reflectance measures for each measurement location are computed based on the requested coverage value for each of the marking agents printed there. The computed measures may be dependent on a parameter. A value of the parameter is determined that minimizes the aggregate differences between the sensed and expected reflectance-spectrum measures, and this value is then used in calibrating the component.

Abstract: An image inspection device includes: a read-image acquiring unit that acquires a read image of a formed and output image; an inspection-image generating unit that generates an inspection image used for inspection of the read image on the basis of information of an image to be formed and output acquired from an image processing apparatus that corrects density of the image according to a state of an image forming apparatus, and generates the information; and an inspection-result acquiring unit that acquires a result of determination of a defect in the read image based on a difference between the inspection image and the read image. The inspection-image generating unit acquires density correction information in which densities before and after density of the image is corrected are associated, and generates the inspection image corresponding to density before corrected, on the basis of the acquired density correction information.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method for compensating for side 1 to side 2 differences in a document scanning device. In one embodiment, the present method involves selecting at least one solid area patch printed in at least one reference color of a color space. The scan head of side 1 scans the patch to capture a first set of color values. The scan head of side 2 scans the same patch to capture a second set of color values. A regression method generates a coefficient matrix which minimizes a ?E color difference metric between the first and second sets of color values. An image processing module associated with the side 2 scanner is programmed with the coefficient matrix and uses the coefficient matrix to adjust a color response of the side 2 scanner to compensate for side 1 to side 2 differences.

Abstract: A user interface is configured to receive a user instruction when a user sets a print condition for a printer. At least one setting item including a plurality of set contents is set for the print condition. An obtaining unit obtains a status of the printer. Each of the plurality of set contents is a suitable set content suitable for the status of the printer or an unsuitable set content suitable for the status of the printer. A determination unit determines whether a set content set for the one setting item is the suitable set content or the unsuitable set content based on the status of the printer.

Abstract: An image forming device includes an image forming section, a CPU and memory storing executable instructions that, when executed by the CPU, cause the image forming device to provide functions including a data acquisition section, a mismatch correction section and a control section. The data acquisition section is configured to acquire a variation in factor that causes a mismatch of a parameter. The control section is configured to estimate an amount of mismatch of the parameter based on the variation and to send a request for measuring the amount of mismatch to the mismatch correction section when the estimated amount is equal to or larger than a reference value. The control section is also configured to alter at least one of calculation factors used for estimating the amount of mismatch and the reference value according to the measured amount.

Abstract: An image reading device includes a reading unit having a light-receiving unit and a light-emitting unit emitting a plurality of lights of different colors toward a reading position. An opposing member is disposed opposite the reading unit with the reading position interposed therebetween. The controller controls the light-emitting unit to emit the lights and the light-receiving unit to receive the lights thereby acquiring an intensity of each light. The controller determines that a sheet is not present when relationships among intensities of the plurality of lights are same as the first intensity relationships. The first intensity relationships are defined by intensities of the plurality of lights reflected by the opposing member and received by the light-receiving unit. The first intensity relationships are different from intensity relationships of the plurality of lights reflected by a sheet present at the reading position and received by the light-receiving unit.
