Abstract: A test chart on which measurement images are formed is conveyed in one direction. When the measurement images pass a color sensor, they undergo pre-scanning. A color sensor accumulation time is determined for each measurement image according to the pre-scanning. The test chart is subsequently conveyed in the one direction, whereupon the conveyance direction is changed. In this way, after the color sensor has completed pre-scanning for all of the measurement images, the test chart is once again conveyed toward the color sensor. When the test chart passes the color sensor again, main scanning of the measurement images is executed.

  • Patent number: 8804157
Abstract: A method, programmed medium and system are disclosed which provide for an in-line scanner used to dynamically scan a document or image, real-time as it is being printed within a printer unit and before the printed document exits the printer. The scanned image is compared to a stored electronically-generated image of the file being printed. When the comparison is determinative that there is a printing problem, the printing operation may be stopped quickly before the partially printed document or image has exited the printer. An error message may then be displayed, and the user is enabled to take appropriate action. A resume function enables a user to resume a print job at exactly the place where it had left off before detecting a print problem. In another embodiment, when the system detects a problem with a print job, the entire print job of the remainder of the print job is sent from the faulting printer to another printer where either the remainder of the print job or the entire print job is completed.

Abstract: Conventional calibration patches are designed such that gradation values of the patches are determined, based on the overall length of a trajectory of a monochrome ink color in an L*a*b* space, so that distances between patches become uniform, and therefore provide low interpolation accuracy in a region where measurement values change non-linearly in accordance with the change in gradation. According to the present invention, gradation values of patches to be used for color calibration are determined so that the patches are closely arranged in a region where measurement values change non-linearly in accordance with the change in gradation. Thus, interpolation accuracy can be improved in a region where measurement values change non-linearly.

The data may be normalized and compared to discern image quality defects introduced by the image scanning system including image defects presented in the form of streaks in an output image based on the scanned data. Cumulative data regarding detected image defects and defect correction measures applied in the image scanning system may be collected and stored for a user to access.

  • Patent number: 8760720
Abstract: A pixel extracting unit extracts pixels belonging to a previously designated color range from the image data of a correction object. A target color selection receiving unit receives a selection of one target color by a user, from among a plurality of target colors stored in a target color storage unit. A color correction executing unit executes color correction on correction object image data, based on the color of the pixel extracted by the pixel extracting unit and the target color selected through the target color selection receiving unit. A target color extracting unit extracts the target color of a registration object from target color registration image data stored in a registration image storage unit. A target color registration unit registers the target color of the registration object extracted by the target color extracting unit in the target color storage unit to be associated with a previously designated color range.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: an image processing unit acquiring image data, performing image processing, and generating color image data for respective colors; plural toner image forming units each forming and developing an electrostatic latent image on the basis of the color image data, and forming a color toner image; and a toner image holding member moving while holding each color toner image. Each electrostatic latent image has pixel rows arranged in a slow scan direction, with pixels aligned in a fast scan direction. The image processing unit performs, on the color image data, image processing to add or delete the pixel rows for a position of the electrostatic latent image in the slow scan direction.
