Electrical Service Distribution Box Patents (Class 361/641)
  • Patent number: 5285349
Abstract: A power box (12) for a low voltage lighting system (10). Power box (12), which connects to a 120 VAC source via 120 VAC cable (15) and a plurality of low voltage light fixtures (14) via a 12 VAC cable (16), includes a "tortuous path" strain relief (40) including a first strain relief structure (41) in a base (19) having vertically spaced horizontal ribs (44, 46, 48) and a second strain relief structure (43) in a cover (28) having corresponding vertically spaced horizontal ribs (56, 54, 52). When base (19) and cover (28) are assembled, structures (41 and 43) align such that the ribs interdigitate or mesh to form the tortuous path strain relief (40) for the 120 VAC cable (15). Another aspect of the invention is the use of a standard spade lug connector (77) and a pair of "double-L" spade lug connectors (78) for making the internal and external 12 VAC connections to a step down transformer (60) and the 12 VAC cable (16), respectively.

  • Patent number: 5272297
Abstract: An air conditioning disconnect switch utilizes a ramped movable contact arrangement for slidably opening and closing the switch contacts without the requirement of a removable type pull-out handle. A plastic face plate covering the switch terminals allows the use of a metallic case of reduced depth. The slidable contact arrangement eliminates the bumped cover projection otherwise required with the pull-out handle.

  • Patent number: 5245507
Abstract: The invention is a weather resistant container in the nature of a box with tightly fitting cover for a timer unit controlling operation of an irrigation system and associated transformer and electrical plug. The container also houses an electrical receptacle and wiring. Such container is adapted to receive electrical power from an outside source through conventional electrical conduit. Within the box are provided supports for a removable, broad partition wall defining a relatively shallow wiring compartment between the back wall and the partition wall and a relatively deep compartment between the partition wall and open front of the box for housing the timer components.

  • Patent number: 5239129
Abstract: An electrical housing apparatus has an electrically non-conductive enclosure with side and end walls. One of the end walls has an opening to receive an electrical conduit and the other walls are un-perforated. An electrically conductive frame is mounted inside the enclosure, the frame being arranged to support electrical devices is a specific vertical orientation and provide ground bonding between the conduits and electrical devices in the housing. Mounting brackets at opposite ends of the frame have openings either of which can be aligned with the end wall opening when the frame is placed in the enclosure, depending on the orientation of the enclosure: the end wall with the opening can be at the top to accommodate a top conduit connection or at the bottom to accommodate a bottom conduit connection. A water-resistant cover closes the front of the box, the cover and frame being arranged to have a single orientation regardless of which enclosure orientation is used.
