  • Patent number: 8559440
Abstract: The disclosure presents techniques for merging multiple data flows in a network such as a Passive Optical Network (PON). The PON comprises an interface module and network nodes connected to the interface module via an optical fiber link. Each network node further serves client devices. The client devices request multiple data flows, requiring the interface module to serve multiple data flows to a network node for delivery to the devices. The interface module merges received data flows to permit multiple flows to be processed by a single segmentation and reassembly (SAR) engine, reducing hardware cost and complexity within the node. However, subunits associated with different data flows within a merged data flow are not interleaved with one another. Instead, the subunits associated with an original unit of information are transmitted contiguously within the merged data flow, facilitating identification and reassembly of the subunits for a particular microflow.

Abstract: A method to add a new wireless device to a home network through one common interface administrator such as a TV hosting an application. A user simply inputs one identification code of the new wireless device to the TV using a remote commander. Abstract: The invention is directed toward techniques for Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) upstream label assignment for the Label Distribution Protocol (LDP). The techniques include extensions to the LDP that enable distribution of upstream assigned labels from an upstream router to two or more downstream routers of a tunnel established over a network. The tunnel may comprise a LDP Point to Multi-Point (P2MP) Label Switched Path (LSP), an Internet Protocol (IP) multicast tunnel, or a Resource Reservation Protocol with Traffic Engineering extensions (RSVP-TE) P2MP LSP. Connection management includes source-routed mapping of connections on the desired path. Distributed call rerouting is provided so switches receive topology change notifications and unmap failed link connections. Broadcast/unknown services provide non-resolvable packet restricted flooding. Connection-oriented switching is provided based on source and destination MAC addresses. Resolution of networks outside the switch domain is enabled by listening for network and server route advertisements and maintaining best routes to the networks and servers.

  • Patent number: 8457027
Abstract: Growth of a distributed communication system is facilitated through dynamic addition of routing elements. A new routing element may be added to a network of routing elements by first establishing a connection between the new routing element and an existing routing element in the network. The connection may be either wireless or wireline. At least one address is assigned to the new routing element. Each assigned address comes from a pool of addresses maintained at the existing routing element. At least one pool of addresses is issued to the new routing element, permitting the new routing element to dynamically add yet another new routing element to the network of routing elements.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with data stream classification are described. One example method includes identifying packets associated with the data stream. The example method may also include updating a set of characterization data associated with the data stream based on information associated with a packet. The example method may also include assigning a data stream classifier to the data stream by comparing characterization data to identification data upon determining that the set of characterization data indicates that the data stream is able to be classified. The example method may also include providing a signal associated with the data stream classifier.

  • Patent number: 8428058
Abstract: An efficient approach for cascading out-of-box services is disclosed. The inventive system has a packet router, with out-of-box interfaces, and out-of-box servers, the latter being connected to the interfaces and implementing the out-of-box services. The interfaces and the serves are configured in a virtual local area network (VLAN), as identified by a VLAN identifier (ID), which performs a specific number of the services and in a specific order on a stream of packets. The packet router, in a single action, routes packets with the VLAN ID to a particular VLAN in order to subject those packets to the number and order of services then associated with that VLAN ID.

  • Patent number: 8422500
Abstract: The two types of virtual local area networks (VLANs) may be defined: p-bits-Inferred-scheduling class VLAN (p-VLAN); and VLAN-ID-Only-Inferred-scheduling class VLANs (v-VLAN). As such, upon receipt of an Ethernet frame, the type of VLAN associated with the Ethernet frame may be determined. The type of VLAN provides the receiving node with an indication of a method of determining a scheduling class. A p-VLAN supports multiple scheduling classes. For a p-VLAN, the scheduling class and drop precedence for the received Ethernet frame may be determined based on a “service map” that describes the relationship between the p-bits and forwarding treatment. A v-VLAN supports a single scheduling class. As such, the scheduling class for a received Ethernet frame may be determined based on the VLAN-ID of the received Ethernet frame. The described VLAN QoS information may be configured or signaled across the network.

Abstract: A method for formatting a signal in a mobile communication system by appending a plurality of medium access control headers to a plurality of medium access control-service data units for data transfer between a mobile station and network in the mobile communication system. If the service data units have the same characteristics, a medium access control-protocol data unit is formed by successively coupling the service data units to any one of the medium access control headers. If the service data units have different characteristics, the protocol data unit is formed by sequentially coupling each of the service data units and each of the medium access control headers. Abstract: A method of determining a cell identity in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The present invention includes the steps of obtaining a segment ID and a sequence index from an SA-preamble (secondary advanced preamble) sequence received from a base station and determining the cell identity using the segment ID and the sequence index. In this case, the cell identity corresponds to one SA-preamble sequence and a cell identity adjacent to the cell identity corresponds to an SA-preamble sequence having a complex conjugate relation of the one SA-preamble sequence.

Abstract: A signaling server (SS) comprising means for transmitting SIP signaling messages with a client (T) through a NAT address translation device temporarily binding a public address to the client's private address, including means for receiving registration messages from the client and for sending the client a validity duration, at the end of which it must transmit a new registration message. The invention resides in the fact that if the client is located behind an address translation device, it determines an approximate expiry time for the temporary binding by successively sending test messages after an increasing wait time until the termination of the binding is detected. This approximate time is then used by being transmitted as the SIP validity period.
