  • Patent number: 8385261
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for setting the connection identifier (CID) mask length of a Hybrid Automatic Repeat-Request (HARQ)-MAP or a SUB-MAP pointer information element (IE) in a compressed downlink map (DL-MAP) of an orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) frame are provided in an effort to reduce the number of false indications in the CID mask, while also striving, as a secondary concern, to reduce the CID mask length. In this manner, an individual mobile station (MS) may not waste processing, battery power, or time interpreting a HARQ-MAP message or a sub downlink/uplink map (SUB-DL-UL-MAP) message that was not intended for this particular MS. For some embodiments where the CID mask length is set to be small, the control overhead (i.e., the size of the HARQ-MAP or the SUB-MAP pointer IE) may be decreased, and more of the OFDMA frame may be available for data traffic.

  • Patent number: 8359028
Abstract: Methods and devices for mitigating the impact of handoffs to non-preferred wireless coverage areas are presented. In particular, a RAN may determine that a first wireless communication device (WCD) and a second WCD are contending for a resource of a preferred wireless coverage area, and that both of the WCDs are likely to be handed off to non-preferred wireless coverage area(s) if they are not granted the resource. Both WCDs may be subscribed to a home wireless service provider that also controls and/or operates the preferred wireless coverage area. The RAN may compare historical call length data of the first WCD with historical call length data of the second WCD. Based on the outcome of this comparison, the RAN may allocate the resource to the WCD that would likely incur higher roaming fees to the home wireless service provider if that WCD were to roam to a non-preferred wireless coverage area.

Abstract: Packet processing logic of a host system's virtualization manager detects packets on the ingress or the egress path to/from a virtual port having three bitmap arrays for processing packets within a virtual local area network (VLAN). The logic checks the VLAN identifier (VID) of the packet to determine, based on an offset position within the corresponding bitmap array, whether the port supports the VLAN. Both the ingress array offset position and egress array offset positions correspond to the value of the VID, and are set within the specific bitmap array during configuration of the VLAN on the port. When the VLAN is supported by the port, the logic enables the packet to be processed by the port. Otherwise, the logic discards the packet. A strip bitmap array indicates when a packet's VID should be removed prior to forwarding the packet on the egress of a port (or destination port).

Abstract: Various security mechanisms may be used independently, or in combination with one another, to authenticate the identity of a node during the Mobile IP registration process. First, an Access Point receiving a packet from a node verifies that the source MAC address identified in the packet is in the Access Point's client association table. In addition, as a second mechanism, the Access Point ensures that a one-to-one mapping exists for the source MAC address and source IP address identified in the packet in a mapping table maintained by the Access Point. As a third mechanism, a binding is not modified in the mobility binding table maintained by the Home Agent unless there is a one-to-one mapping in the mobility binding table between the source MAC address and the source IP address. Similarly, the Foreign Agent may also maintain a mapping between the source IP address and the source MAC address in its visitor table to ensure a one-to-one mapping between a source IP address and the associated MAC address.

Abstract: Component connections are preserved during destructive component operations. Upon receiving a notification of the destruction of a direct component connection, a direct component connection is converted to an implied component connection. The implied component connection may be specified as additional component attributes of one or both components associated with the direct component connection or as data external to the component data structures. This allows preservation of the component connection despite destructive component operations. Upon the creation of a component, it is determined if the newly created component corresponds with a previously destroyed component that was associated with a direct connection. If the newly created component corresponds with this previously destroyed component, a direct component connection is created for the newly created component as specified by the implied component connection.

  • Patent number: 8238228
Abstract: A system and method for enabling a disabled port on a device such as a Two Port Medium Access Control (MAC) Relay (TPMR), which relays MAC frames in a communication network. When a link in the network fails, the TPMR disables the port due to operation of a link failure propagation protocol. When the TPMR detects that the failed link is repaired, the TPMR stops transmitting link failure Packet Data Units (PDUs) and transmits a Link Failure Terminating PDU to other connected TPMRs in the network. Receipt of the Link Failure Terminating PDU indicates the failed link is repaired and all ports disabled as a result of the failure should consequently be enabled.

  • Patent number: 8223682
Abstract: A receiving system and a data processing method are disclosed. The receiving system includes a receiving unit, a demodulator, a first handler, a second handler, and a third handler. The receiving unit receives a broadcast signal comprising fast information channel (FIC) data, transmission parameter channel (TPC) data, and mobile service data packetized into an RS frame. The demodulator demodulates the broadcast signal. The first handler configures an ensemble from the RS frame, so as to acquire first signaling information including access information of the mobile service. The second handler receives second signaling information of the mobile service, so as to acquire content identification information of a second data type from the received second signaling information. And, the third handler extracts a mobile service identifier and a content identifier of a first data type from the first signaling information and constructs content identification information of a second data type.

  • Patent number: 8219071
Abstract: An information acquisition section acquires application halfway information, user preference, updated date and time, real-timeness, usage frequency, usage history, radio wave state, remaining battery level, billing information or other information. A controller calculates recommendation values indicating recommended degrees to recommend the use to a user for each of a plurality of applications and for each of the contents of each of the applications, using the information that the information acquisition section acquired. Then, for example, when a specific button is pressed, the controller gives priorities to the plurality of applications and contents based on the recommendation values, causing the applications and contents to be displayed on a display of a display section 15 in the order of priority. Thus, of the various applications and contents, it makes it possible to select one that is more matched to the user preference and suitable for the terminal usage pattern.

  • Patent number: 8208375
Abstract: Several approaches to selectively filtering network traffic are described. One approach involves a system for selectively filtering network traffic. The system includes a helper application, which is coupled to a networking program, and is used to identify a user-initiated request. A network filter driver is coupled to the networking program, for intercepting the user-initiated request. A filtering service is coupled to both the helper application and the network filter driver, and is used to determine if the user-initiated request is allowable. If the request is allowable, the filtering service is configured to generate a special identifier, which the helper application is configured to include in a subsequent request. The filtering service is configured to allow a subsequent request which includes the special identifier, and the network filter driver's configured to strip a special identifier from subsequent requests.
