  • Patent number: 7656883
Abstract: A transmission convergence sublayer circuit is coupled between a buffer and a deframer. The deframer submits a data stream enable signal and data bytes to the circuit. The data stream enable signal enables the circuit so that multiple groups of byte data belonging to a data cell are received and temporarily stored inside a byte-wise data pipeline. A header cyclic redundancy checker also receives the byte data and then conducts a header search. An idle cell identifier is used to determine if the data cell is a non-idle cell. When the header is found and determined to be a non-idle cell, a descrambler retrieves payload data of data cell from the byte-wise data pipeline and conducts a descrambling operation after obtaining a quantity of data equal to a double word. Ultimately, the double word data is output to the buffer with minimum delay.

  • Patent number: 7570652
Abstract: A data communication network provides techniques for handling frame discard of non-delineable flows. When a data flow is established, it is evaluated to determine whether a frame delimiter value is required and, if so, whether it is present. If the frame delimiter is required and missing, then the flow is declared non-delineable. If, subsequently, a congestion threshold is reached for this data flow, cells are discarded until a) a frame delimiter value is received, b) congestion drops below the threshold or c) a predetermined number of cells are discarded. These techniques provide frame discard handling mechanisms that alleviate the need for NOC personnel to intervene in problems caused by non-delineable frame discard flows.

Abstract: The present invention is a system and a method which enables implementing a scalable, carrier class bundling multiplexed data communication on low rate links. The proposed system and method, which comply with the data transference specifications of both CBR and statistical traffic, offer a data bundling solution with minimal overhead that may operate on different types of connections, using links with diverse capacities. The disclosed bundling mechanism is based on a two level mechanism: the lower level is composed of any number of superlinks, each gathering 8 communication links. The upper level is composed of two bundlers—for CBR data and for statistical traffic—each connected to all the superlinks. The header of each dataframe includes all the required information. This guarantees that the receiving side has full status information for all the links suffice that only one link is received without a CRC error.

  • Patent number: 7545808
Abstract: A network device switches variable length data units from a source to a destination in a network. An input port receives the variable length data unit and a divider divides the variable length data unit into uniform length data units for temporary storage in the network device. A distributed memory includes a plurality of physically separated memory banks addressable using a single virtual address space and an input switch streams the uniform length data units across the memory banks based on the virtual address space. The network device further includes an output switch for extracting the uniform length data units from the distributed memory by using addresses of the uniform length data units within the virtual address space. The output switch reassembles the uniform length data units to reconstruct the variable length data unit. An output port receives the variable length data unit and transfers the variable length data unit to the destination.

Abstract: Cells which arrive in random sequence from the asynchronously operating exchange parts are restored into the original by a small amount of hardware. Distributing parts as inputs of a switch fabric manage serial numbers continuous for each destination. The distributing part divides an inputted variable length packet into fixed length cells, adds serial numbers corresponding to destinations to the cells, and outputs the cells to the exchange parts. The respective exchange parts deliver the cells to the objected destinations. Alignment parts as outputs of the switch fabric classify the reception cells by the number of the distributing part, and compare an expected serial number managed by the alignment part with a serial number of the destination (alignment part) of the reception cell. An identical one is stored in an aligned FIFO queue, and cells of from a packet start cell to a packet end cell are taken out.

  • Patent number: 7535926
Abstract: Techniques are described for dynamically configuring an interface in a network service provider. The techniques allow dynamic configuration of, for example, a dual stacked interface that includes both Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) on the same layer 2 link. In this way, a customer network having an existing IPv4 connection to a network service provider will be able to run both IPv4 and IPv6 over the same interface. A network device within the network service provider may receive a control packet from a subscriber device. The packet may be received on an ATM hybrid permanent virtual circuit (PVC) that supports multiple interface columns. The network device is capable of auto-sensing multiple packet protocols and may dynamically create multiple interface columns over the same ATM interface based on the encapsulation type of the received packets.

  • Patent number: 7522610
Abstract: An apparatus and a method of communicating a set of user data in an ATM network-based mobile communication system are disclosed. To transmit the set of user data, N internal AAL packets are generated by adding an internal AAL packet header to each of N data subsets of an original set of user data. The internal AAL packet header includes a sequence number of each data subset. Next, one or more internal AAL cells are generated by multiplexing the internal AAL packets. Then, the original set of user data is restored by demultiplexing the internal AAL packets, included in the internal AAL cells. Thereafter, M AAL2 packets are generated by adding an AAL2 packet header to each of M data subsets of the restored set of user data. And finally, one or more AAL2 cells are generated by multiplexing the AAL2 packets. As a result, the set of user data is transmitted in the system in a much more efficient manner. Therefore, the data traffic rate in each part of the system is greatly enhanced.

  • Patent number: 7489694
Abstract: The present invention provides a cell disassembly unit which accurately reproduces the position of data on a time axis when ATM cells are converted into STM signals even if cell loss occurs in an ATM network. A cell loss detection circuit disassembles the ATM cells into bytes, sends them to the memory, and detects the number of lost bytes M of the ATM cells. A sequence number generation circuit generates the sequence number N, which is N=N+1 if there is no loss, and N=N+M if there is loss, in the sequence of the transmission of bytes from the cell loss detection circuit. A write address generation circuit generates a write address, and a read address generation circuit generates a read address. A selector sends either the bytes read from the memory or dummy data generated by the dummy data generation circuit to the outside as STM signals.

Abstract: Disclosed herewith is a multi-plane cell switch fabric system in which each switching unit functions asynchronously with others. The system executes distribution/restoration operations without lowering the switching capacity to reorder cells that arrive in random order from a plurality of switches just as they were in original flows and packets respectively with a small hardware capacity. In the system, the distribution unit divides each variable length packet addressed to the same destination into fixed length cells and sends those divided cells by a unit of integer multiple of the number of switches. On the other hand, the reordering unit, while holding cells that arrive in random order from each switching unit (switching units 1 to M) in a receive buffer, separates only the header information from each cell and holds the header information in a retry queue.
