  • Patent number: 8462902
Abstract: A broadband powerline communication system makes use of knowledge of the spectrum characteristics of a local radio environment in order to improve system performance. A determination is made of the spectrum characteristics of a radio environment in the vicinity of the broadband powerline communication system that is transmitting data on modulated carrier frequencies. In order to avoid interference, certain ones of the carrier frequencies otherwise used by the broadband powerline communication system may be selectively masked based on the determination. The spectrum characteristics may be determined 1) in advance and used to compile a configuration database comprising frequency masking parameters; 2) by monitoring the local radio environment using the transmitter/receiver nodes of the system; or 3) based upon receipt of an indication from a conflicting user that the user is experiencing interference. Various combinations of these spectrum characteristic determination techniques may also be used.

  • Patent number: 8429254
Abstract: A networkable device-to-networkable device communication method in Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). Embodiments include auto-configuration of IPv6 address and automatic commencement of communication among Fire Panels and other types of wired or wireless networkable devices. Each networkable device obtains its IPv6 address in a number of ways including from the first or any particular networkable device in a network. A designated networkable device instills IPv6 address to its neighboring networkable device, and subsequently the neighboring networkable device instills IPv6 address to its neighboring networkable device dynamically. Embedded Gateways are created dynamically in the network. Each networkable device uses its and its neighboring networkable devices' Embedded Gateways in order to transmit and receive IPv6 multicast, anycast or unicast packets. Embodiments obviate the need to use conventional Ethernet network backbone, networking and routing devices like switch or router, or manual configuration.

Abstract: The present invention provides a wireless network system that enables direct wireless delivery of a multimedia message from a first MMS user agent to a second MMS user agent. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the wireless network system includes a MMS server that receives, from the first MMS user agent, a request to send a multimedia message to the second MMS user agent. The request includes an identification (ID) number of the second MMS user agent. From a core network, for example, the MMS server obtains an Internet address of the second MMS user agent based on the ID number of the second MMS user agent, if the ID number is not an Internet address of the second MMS user agent. A second header-attaching unit attaches the header of the bit rate A to data of a high speed bit rate B. A combining unit combines outputs of the first and the second header-attaching units. A low speed scrambling unit performs a scrambling process on combined data by using a clock corresponding to the bit rate A. A high speed scrambling unit performs a scrambling process on the data of the bit rate B by using a clock corresponding to the bit rate B. During a timing corresponding to the bit rate A in the frame, a selector selects an output of the low speed scrambling unit. During a timing corresponding to the bit rate B in the frame, the selector selects an output of the high speed scrambling unit.

  • Patent number: 8325732
Abstract: A method of enabling extension of a network service of a first domain to a remote customer site hosted by an Access Gateway (AG) in a Provider Ethernet domain. In the first domain, the remote customer site is represented as being hosted by a border gateway (BG) connected to the Provider Ethernet domain, such that subscriber packets associated with the network service are forwarded to or from the remote customer site via the BG. In the Provider Ethernet domain, a trunk connection is instantiated through the Provider Ethernet domain between the host AG and the BG. A trunk cross-connection function is installed in the host AG, for transferring subscriber packets associated with the network service between a respective attachment virtual circuit (AVC) through which the remote customer site is connected to the host AG and an extended AVC tunnelled through the trunk connection.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a transmitting node may be configured to transmit a wireless advertisement frame over a computer network, wherein the frame includes a source address of a reachable node being advertised, a destination address to which the reachable node is to be advertised, a transmitter address of the transmitting node, and a receiver address of a wireless access point to which the wireless advertisement frame is to be received. Also, the wireless access point may be configured to receive the wireless advertisement frame from the network, and in response, transmit a reflected wireless advertisement frame having the source address of the reachable node, the destination address to which the reachable node is to be advertised, a transmitter address of the access point, and a receiver address that indicates the reflected frame is to be accepted by any appropriate receiver excluding the transmitting node.

  • Patent number: 8312168
Abstract: Technology is disclosed for associating content objects (e.g., paper documents, audio and video files, etc.) with corresponding information and/or action. One arrangement employs an architecture comprising a registration server, a router, and one or more product handlers. Identifiers for the content objects can be obtained in various ways, including decoding a digital watermark, deriving an identifier by hashing music data, sensing machine-readable data such as RFID or barcode data, etc. One particular method involves applying an algorithmic process to produce music- or video-content-identifying data; wirelessly sending the content-identifying data from the device in one or more packets including XML compliant data; and, as a consequence, receiving data back. By reference to this data, the receiving device presents information to a user that identifies a title of the content, and a performer of the content.

  • Patent number: 8300641
Abstract: High-speed processing of packets to, and from, a virtualization environment can be provided while utilizing segmentation offload and other such functionality of commodity hardware. Virtualization information can be added to extension portions of protocol headers, for example, such that the payload portion is unchanged and, when physical address information is added to a frame, a frame can be processed using commodity hardware. In some embodiments, the virtualization information can be hashed and added to the payload or stream at, or relative to, various segmentation boundaries, such that the virtualization or additional header information will only be added to a subset of the packets once segmented, thereby reducing the necessary overhead. Further, the hashing of the information can allow for reconstruction of the virtualization information upon desegmentation even in the event of packet loss.

  • Patent number: 8259702
Abstract: Addressing methods and apparatus which use airlink resources in an efficient manner are described. In order to use airlink resources efficiently, a variety of address types are supported. The number of bits in the address may vary depending on the type. In order to support a variety of different address types, of different lengths, in one embodiment, an address used for communications over an airlink is constructed by including in the address an address type field used to communicate an address type indicator and, optionally, an address field used to communicate an address value. The address field is variable in length and may be null, requiring the communication of no bits in this field, for certain types of addresses. Four types of addresses which may be supported include: i) an Access Terminal assisted address, ii) a Network assisted address, 3) a Pilot PN based address; and 4) a reserved address.
