Abstract: A media file indexing service involves maintaining a media file index in a location external to the media file itself. The index is built up incrementally as the media file is being captured or transferred to shared storage. Client systems receive raw messages with information as to the location within the media file of media elements within each media file portion after it is written to shared storage, or receive refined messages indicating changes to the media file without the associated location information. Clients may query the index maintained by the index service for specific media elements during file capture, enabling edit-while-capture workflows.

  • Patent number: 7411984
Abstract: Telephone tones such as dialing tones and busy or engaged tones differ in different countries and in traditional telephone networks it has been possible to deal with this because national telephone networks have been used. However, with the advent of next generation communications networks in which telephone services are transmitted over a packet network, a need has arisen to manage telephone tones in a more sophisticated manner. To address this, a tone service provides telephone tone information to tone recipients such as media gateways, session initiation protocol (SIP) phones and virtual media gateways. In the event that a new tone recipient is added to the packet network, the tone service is able to automatically provide appropriate telephone tone information to that new tone recipient. Similarly, if telephone tones need to be upgraded or rolled back, the tone service is able to automatically provide appropriate telephone tone information to each of the tone recipients.

Abstract: A waveform of a desired frequency characteristic is input as a numeric value string and is subjected to a reverse FFT so as to obtain a filter coefficient group. Thus, without having any expert knowledge and only by inputting a waveform of a desired frequency characteristic as an image, it is possible to easily design a first FIR filter constituting a tone quality adjustment device. Moreover, by performing a predetermined calculation on the numeric value string input and performing a reverse FFT on the result, it is possible to easily design a second FIR filter having a frequency characteristic symmetric to the first FIR filter with respect to the gain reference value as an axis.

Abstract: Methods, systems and devices are described for a direct-sequence spread-spectrum communication scheme that increases the number of users by utilizing a plurality of closely spaced orthogonal carriers that produce overlapping spectra. A method includes overlapping a plurality of direct-sequence spread-spectrum signals using carrier frequencies that are orthogonally spaced relative to a bit rate. The methods, systems and devices provide advantages because they can accommodate an increase in the number of normalized users and can optimize the loading of users across multiple frequency channels.

Abstract: A method for switching on a subscriber signal wherein a transmission path from a calling terminal device of a switched-through telecommunications network to a called terminal device of a packet transmission network is defined using a network transmission function. An alert message comes from the called terminal device end. When the alert message occurs, a following signaling message is generated which indicates that a subscriber signal has not yet been generated for the calling terminal device. The ringing tone is not switched on, and a standard signaling message is not generated, until the following signaling message has been processed.

Abstract: An optical packet exchange apparatus and an optical switch in which search for a connection pattern between an input unit devoid of a packet to be transmitted and an output unit devoid of a packet to be received is reduced to enable fast switch control even in cases wherein the number of channels of the exchange apparatus is increased or network speed is higher. A plurality of input units, a plurality of output units and an optical switch are provided. Each input unit includes an input buffer unit, a parallel/serial conversion unit, an electrical/optical conversion unit, and a dummy packet insertion unit for sending a dummy packet if there is no packet to be transmitted. Each output unit includes an exchange counterpart contention resolution unit for controlling the exchange counterpart, an optical/electrical conversion unit, a serial/parallel conversion unit, and a packet eliminating unit. The exchange counterpart contention resolution unit controls the packet eliminating unit to eliminate a dummy packet.

Abstract: The invention relates to a radio communication system in which a time slot of a frame of a multiframe signal allocated to the frequency control channel is modulated using an 8PSK modulation scheme to contain a tone having a frequency which GMSK modulation is unsuited to generate. This enables COMPACT-format signals to be distinguished from GSM-format signals and ensures backwards compatibility with all existing GSM mobile stations.

  • Patent number: 6895011
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for re-sequencing data packets received from multiple devices in a packet-based digital communication system. A set of data packets is received by a data packet sequencer. Each data packet includes an indicator of the originator of the data packet. The data packet sequencer stores the set of data packets, preferably in an input buffer. The data packet sequencer reorders the data packets by retrieving a first data packet and determining the originator of the first data packet. The data packet sequencer then transmits all data packets that were originated by a first originator of the first data packet prior to transmitting data packets that were not originated by the first originator.

  • Publication number: 20040001518
Abstract: A system and method is presented for providing a ringback tone at the initiating end of a call while substantially reducing bandwidth usage. The initiating end initiates a call through a network. The receiving end of the call responds by transmitting an alerting message containing information on the characterization of a ringback tone to the initiating end of the call. At the initiating end of the call, the proper ringback tone is determined based on this information, and a ringback tone is generated. When the call is picked up at the receiving end, a transmission to the initiating end alerts the initiating end to cease the ringback tone. Silence suppression may be used at the receiving end to prevent the transmission of an audio stream before the terminal (e.g., a phone) is picked at the receiving end.
