  • Patent number: 9106766
Abstract: An approach is provided to manage phone calls. The approach is implemented by an information handling system, such as a smart phone. A requestor sends a contact request to another device over a network. If the request is accepted, the requestor receives a token with the token including usage parameters controlling the requestor's ability to contact the recipient by telephone. When the requestor requests to make a call to the recipient, the call is only placed upon successful determination made by comparing the usage parameters included in the token to a set of current call data. If a successful determination is made, the call is placed to the recipient without revealing the recipient's telephone number. However, if the request is denied, the system prevents the requestor for placing a call to the recipient.

  • Patent number: 9020114
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed generally to use of biometric identification during a call for detecting an anomaly occurring in the call, such as a change in the parties participating on the call. Communication between parties of a call is monitored and biometric identification is performed using the communication. According to one exemplary embodiment, biometric prints, such as voice prints, face prints, etc., are obtained for parties that are authorized to participate on a call. The call is then monitored and biometric data (e.g., audio, video, etc.) captured from communication during the call is compared with the biometric prints of the authorized parties to detect changes in the parties participating on the call, such as a new, unauthorized party joining the call. Thus, a call processing system can detect anomalies occurring during monitored calls, such as three-way calling, a handoff of a call, etc.

Abstract: This application relates to providing an end user control of temporary numbers established and linked to a trusted phone number using traditional forwarding mechanisms. Temporary phone numbers can be created and assigned to individuals to provide them with a unique point of contact. The temporary numbers are then linked to the individual's private number. The temporary numbers can be shared with individuals and organizations with whom the individual has an interest in communicating with. However, these numbers will often find their way into the hands of third parties with whom the individual has no interest in talking with. When the user simply no longer feels that the numbers are being properly used, the user can remove the temporary numbers linked with their private number so no further calls can be made and routed to their private number. The temporary numbers can be used to uniquely identify the calling party.

  • Patent number: 8577003
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods which provide a centralized architecture for call processing. Embodiments utilize voice over Internet protocols (VoIP) to carry calls from a location at which calling services are provided to a centralized call processing platform providing call processing functionality, such as calling party identification, call validation, call routing, and connection to the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Call processing gateways may be utilized to provide plain old telephone service (POTS) analog line interfaces for use with a plurality of telephone sets disposed for use at a location and at least one wide area network (WAN) interface for providing high speed data communication to a centralized call processing platform. PSTN interfacing by a call processing platform may be provided as a VoIP connection to the PSTN and/or as POTS trunking Call processing platforms may provide for data sharing, aggregation, and/or analysis across multiple facilities served.

  • Patent number: 8577001
Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods for controlling the blocking of telephone calls are disclosed. A person, for example, bothered by calls from a prison inmate may desire to block future call attempts from that inmate or even desire to block all calls from the confinement/correctional institution at which the inmate is housed. To reduce accidental and fraudulent call blocking, various techniques are used to verify that the party requesting the block is, in fact, the party in control of the telephone number requested to be blocked. Embodiments herein enable call blocking using systems that require little or no human interaction to process a block request, reduce or eliminate accidental blocks via a callback confirmation process, create a documentation trail via the use of a profile and PIN system used for the processing of a block, and/or reduce fraudulent blocks by parties other than those authorized to do so via CNAM (Caller ID) verification.

  • Patent number: 8548137
Abstract: A method for dynamically updating a model is described. The method includes accessing a model that specifies expected characteristics for a transaction. The model includes variables associated with fraud. The method also includes receiving at least one value for each of the variables while monitoring transactions, and updating a distribution of values for each variable based on the received value. The received value is compared with the updated distribution to determine a deviation from a threshold value associated with a percentile of the updated distribution that is indicative of fraud.

  • Patent number: 8509407
Abstract: A system and method for event notification and access control for Distributed Hash Tables (DHTs) using an event triggering mechanism for DHT-based Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay networks is described. According to an embodiment of the invention, a user interested in certain event can insert a trigger into the DHT. When the event occurs, the trigger fires and causes a pre-defined action to be executed. According to another embodiment of the invention, a user peer inserts a trigger resource record, which includes instructions to execute a specified action upon occurrence of the event, into the DHT. A monitored resource record, with which the event is or will be associated, is identified. A monitoring peer, responsible for maintaining the monitored resource record, is then identified. The trigger resource record is maintained at the monitoring peer.

Abstract: Example methods disclosed herein include parsing a request to obtain input criteria associated with the request, the request for authorizing an outdial communication service call initiated by a message center. Such example methods also include retrieving authorization rules correlating the input criteria to an authorization result for the outdial communication service call, the input criteria comprising a first input criterion having one of at least two values, a first value indicating that the outdial communication service call is for a real-time outdial service initiated in response to an indial communication service received at the message center, a second value indicating that the outdial communication service call is for a non-real-time outdial service initiated by an application server associated with the message center. Such example methods further include evaluating the authorization rules using the input criteria to determine whether the outdial communication service call is authorized.

  • Patent number: 8477916
Abstract: Methods and systems of authorizing a user of a first packet-based communication network to access a second packet-based communication network are disclosed. A call setup request is received from a user terminal of the user at a first network element of the first packet-based communication network, the authorization request comprising a first user identity. Responsive to the call setup request, a request is transmitted to create a second user identity from the first network element to a second network element of the second packet-based communication network. The second network element creates the second user identity for use in the second packet-based communication network. The second user identity is derivable from the first user identity according to a predetermined rule. The second user identity is stored in the second packet-based communication network for use with establishing a call associated with the call setup request over the second packet-based communication network.

  • Patent number: 8379838
Abstract: A tone detector is disclosed that is realizable in digital embodiment on a single integrated circuit die and does not require external components, such as a discrete capacitor. An input connects to a comparator, which in turn connects to one or more edge detectors and a flip flop. The edge detector outputs a pulse responsive to a detected edge. A counter is reset by the pulses from the edge detectors thereby preventing the counter from reaching a maximum value, which would otherwise be output from the counter and provided to a flip flop to clock in the comparator output at the D input to the flip flop. In operation, the comparator generates a rail to rail signal responsive to a received tone, which in turn is clocked through the flip flop as a logic high output indicating presence of a tone.
