Abstract: Improved methods and apparatus for sharing and collaborating around a video source by maintaining and providing to users a list of a plurality of contacts containing both video source device contacts and interactive message source contacts. This allows for collaboration among users by permitting them to communicate with each other around an automatically-shared video source, to interact with automatically shared video sources, and to make decisions based on these shared video sources.

Abstract: An interactive voice response system for a correctional facility commissary is described. The system is configured to receive incoming communications from an inmate to the correctional facility commissary. The system detects violations of facility restrictions to orders for commissary goods at more than one point in time, and allows comprehensive review and editing of pending orders for commissary items.

Abstract: A method of monitoring activity in a contact center may include receiving a plurality of customer interactions; storing a plurality of textual records; grouping the plurality of textual records into a plurality of groups, wherein each of the plurality of groups is associated with an attribute of the associated customer interaction; and causing to be displayed a graphical representation of the plurality of customer interactions comprising a plurality of geometric shapes, where each of the geometric shapes is associated with a corresponding one of the groups; and each of the geometric shapes comprises an area on the display device that is proportional to a size of the corresponding one of the groups relative to sizes of the remaining groups.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention is a method and apparatus for knowledge generation and deployment in a distributed network. In one embodiment, a method for processing messages in a social network includes receiving a new message from a first node in the network, the new message including a query, providing the first node with an answer to the query, if the answer is located in a repository, and initiating generation of the answer, if the answer is not located in the repository.

Abstract: Processes and systems for transferring communication messages, such as fax and voice messages, between a computer and a terminal are disclosed. For example, a fax message intended for a user is received at a call processing system. A voice message intended for the user is received at the call processing system. An initial portion of the fax message and the voice message are transferred to a user terminal. The user can view the initial portion of the fax message and listed in the initial portion of the voice message using the user terminal. At least a second portion of the fax message is downloaded to the user terminal in a trickle mode, and at least a second portion of the voice message is downloaded to the user terminal in a trickle mode.

Abstract: A method, article of manufacture, and apparatus for presenting a plurality of auditory communications having associated data representing at least one term identified in the communication is disclosed. In an embodiment, this comprises providing a visual representation of the term, providing links associated with occurrences of the term in the plurality of communications, and when a link is selected, playing a portion of the communication corresponding to the occurrence of the term. A portion of the communication following the portion corresponding to the occurrence of the term may be played.

Abstract: Allowing a user of a communication device to have real-time control as a voicemail is being generated is provided. An incoming call to a communication device may be sent to voicemail; however, rather than waiting for the message to be deposited into the voicemail system followed by subsequent retrieval, a user of the called communication device/called party may have an option to listen to the message as it is being created and stored. During the process of listening in on the message being deposited in the voicemail system, the user/called party may have options in real-time to take the call, ignore the call, listen to the call, and the like. Alternatively, the user/called party may take the call (answer) as the voicemail is being deposited without listening in on the voicemail as it is being deposited.

Abstract: A transmission process and device are provided for transmitting an enriched audio or audiovisual message. The process includes converting enriching information configured to enrich the content of an initial audio or audiovisual message and processing information linked to the enriching information into at least one multimedia insertion message, inserting the multimedia insertion message at least into the audio or visual content of the initial message so as to create an enriched message, and transmitting the enriched message via a communications system from the transmission device to at least one receiving device.

A disclosed example method involves, during a call session with a voicemail system, receiving an audio segment from the voicemail system. Abstract: Intelligent call transcript systems and methods are disclosed. An intelligent call transcript system can create a transcript of a telephonic communication and supplement the transcript with additional information automatically or upon request. Additional information may be added when key words are detected, such as adding acronym expansion when an acronym is detected or adding identifying information to an important task when mention of the task is detected. Portions of the transcript may also be sent as messages, text-based or audio, upon detection of key words or at the instruction of a user or device.

Abstract: A computing device may extract keywords from a phone call or other audio communication and later display those keywords in a call log or in a caller ID. In one example, a method performed by at least one processor of a first computing device includes receiving speech inputs during an audio communication between the first computing device and a second device. The method further includes performing speech-to-text processing on the speech inputs to generate text based on the speech inputs. The method further includes performing keyword extraction processing on the text to generate one or more keywords based on the text, that score highly as relevant indicators of the audio communication, based on one or more keyword extraction criteria. The method further includes storing the one or more keywords in association with identifying information associated with the second device.

Abstract: Techniques for notifying a customer of a financial institution about an alert message over a communication device are disclosed. Upon contacting an alert message center of the financial institution, the customer is presented with a notification of alert messages and may choose what action to take with respect to each alert message. The customer may respond to those issues that the customer deems important enough to warrant immediate attention without having to also sort through numerous other issues that the customer does not wish to address at the time. The alert message center collects and sorts alert messages for presentation to the customer according to various customer preferences that are updated and stored by the alert message center.

Abstract: A computer-implemented voice mail method includes obtaining an electronic audio file of a recorded user message directed to a telephone user, automatically generating a transcript of the recorded user message, and identifying locations in the transcript in coordination with timestamps in the recorded user message so that successive portions of the transcript can be highlighted in coordination with playing of the recorded user message. The method also include identifying one or characteristics of the message using meta data relating to the recorded user message, and storing the recorded user message and information about the identified locations of the recorded user message.

Abstract: A method for replying to an incoming communication received by a handheld electronic device comprises detecting: an incoming communication, detecting a selection of one of a number of predetermined responses to the incoming communication and, responsive to detecting a selection, providing the one of said number of predetermined responses. An improved handheld electronic device implementing the method is also provided.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the methods and apparatuses detect a message; detect a message term within the message; search for a match between the message term and a stored term; and display a description based on the match wherein the description is utilized for describing the message term and the description corresponds with the stored term.

Abstract: A voicemail message management system and method are provided. A list of voicemail messages is displayed on a screen such as a cellular telephone screen. Indicators specify whether messages are new, urgent, saved, not yet heard, and the like. Other attributes can also be displayed, including for example indications as to source of a message, message duration, date/time, caller, urgent or private, and the like. These indicators provide guidance to the user for selecting which messages he or she would like to hear at a given time. The user can listen to messages, delete them, move them, categorize them, and perform other operations in any order the user chooses.

Abstract: A method and a system are provided for recalling a voice mail stored in a voice mail server. The method includes receiving, by the voice mail server, a request to recall the voice mail from a sender client device; performing a recall action on the voice mail, based on the received request; and notifying at least one of the sender client device and the recipient client device of a status of the recall action.

Abstract: Systems, methods and machine readable media for processing voicemails are described. In one embodiment, a method includes presenting, on a first data processing system, a first user interface which is capable of presenting data representing a plurality of voicemails and receiving from the first user interface a selection for playback of one of the plurality of voicemails. The data representing the plurality of voicemails are received from a second data processing system which includes a voicemail system which records voicemails left for customers of a public telephone carrier, and the first user interface is configured to receive the selection of any one of the plurality of voicemails in any order. The method may further include outputting, to a display associated with the first device, the retrieved information.

Abstract: A stream of voicemail audio data is received. A text-based representation of a portion of the stream of voicemail audio data is generated. One or more identification tags from the stream of voicemail audio data and/or the text-based representation of the portion of the stream of voicemail audio data are obtained from a first user. The text-based representation of the portion of the stream of voicemail audio data and the one or more identification tags are provided to a second user through a graphical user interface.

Abstract: A voice message system records voice message usage information by creating voice message records when a voice message is sent and when it is received. The voice message record includes: the voice message, a voice message sender identity, a voice message recipient identity, and voice message action records. A voice message action records includes a voice message action that specifies an action on the voice message, and a voice message action time that includes the time at which the action occurs. Voice message actions include sent, received, and listened. The system further includes a voice message analyzer for analyzing voice message records, and a voice message reporter for generating reports from an analysis by the analyzer. The voice message system provides tractable information for voice messages, allowing companies to enforce a voice message usage policy.

Abstract: Voicemail is received at a voicemail server and converted to an audio file format; it is then sent or streamed over a wide area network to a voice to text transcription system comprising a network of computers. One of the networked computers plays back the voice message to an operator and the operator intelligently transcribes the actual message from the original voice message by entering the corresponding text message (actually a succinct version of the original voice message, not a verbose word-for-word conversion) into the computer to generate a transcribed text message. The transcribed text message is then sent to the wireless information device from the computer. Because human operators are used instead of machine transcription, voicemails are converted accurately, intelligently, appropriately and succinctly into text messages (SMS/MMS).

Abstract: Various embodiments of systems and methods to implement a voice scratchpad for deriving data from a voice communication are provided. The system may include a voice scratchpad module configured to detect an audio connection between an on-board vehicle computing device and a communications device, and present a selector on a voice scratchpad graphical user interface, which upon selection by a user causes the voice scratchpad module to process voice data received via the audio connection to obtain recognized speech data. The system may further include an annotation engine configured to annotate the recognized speech data to produce structured data in one of a plurality of predetermined formats. The voice scratchpad module may be configured to receive the structured data from the annotation engine, and display the structured data on voice scratchpad graphical user interface.

A caller identifier is received from the caller in response to recording the voicemail message. The caller identifier is associated with one or more profiles. The voicemail message is filed utilizing the associated profile in response to receiving the caller identifier.

Abstract: Detailed information about a party can be provided during interparty communication. Data-capable mobile devices query at least a public database to retrieve information about a set of parties engaged in communication. The results of the database query are employed to provide detailed caller identification and detail functionality to telephones or communication devices not utilizing traditional landlines or commercial caller identification service. Storage can be included to include address book function, query caching, and user preferences. An interface can be provided to facilitate display of rich caller identification information. The interface can further update displayed information without user input, or provide user selection control to request more information on a selected portion of displayed information. These features can be applied to determine the information about a party that is either receiving a communication or initiating a communication.

Abstract: A unified messaging system, method and user interface is provided for a handheld mobile communication device. The method may include the following steps: (a) receiving a notification signal at the wireless device via the wireless data channel indicating that the unified messaging system received and stored a voice mail message intended for a user of the wireless device; (b) transmitting a command signal from the wireless device to the unified messaging system via the wireless data channel, the command signal including a message retrieval command; (c) receiving via the wireless voice channel a voice call initiated by a voice mail system component of the unified messaging system in response to the message retrieval command transmitted from the wireless device; and (d) receiving the voice mail message from the unified messaging system via the wireless voice channel.

Abstract: A network method for using a network telephone voice-mail service, by which a caller may leave a voice-message that includes the identification of an attachment, which may include, as examples only, audio, video, text, programs, spreadsheets and graphic attachments. A video, text, spreadsheet or graphic attachment may be converted to an audible attachment to the voice-mail at the caller's or the voice-mail subscriber's request. Such entries may be made, after receiving an automated prompt for leaving an attachment identifier or conversion request, audibly or by using a keypad entry. A network method is also provided for using a network telephone voice-mail service, by which the voice-mail service may detect an attachment to a voice-mail message and provide access to the attachment to the voice-mail message.

The node has a component configured to receive notification about a communication diversion related to an incoming communication corresponding to only those communication diversions which match criteria for at least one specific reason to be notified, wherein the notification includes a diversion reason element that is locale-independent encoded.

Abstract: A user equipment communications device is configured to provide personal content to a party to a call with a user of the device, when the user places the party on hold. The device determines that the party has been placed on hold and that the user has enabled sharing of personal content with the party. The device then transmits a visual menu to a communications device of the party via a data network, to allow the party to select a type of personal content to receive from the device while the party is on hold. When the device receives a selection from the party's device indicating the type of personal content, it transmits a personal information asset to the party's device according to the type of personal content indicated by the selection. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Abstract: A computing device displays a call history graphical user interface (GUI). The call history GUI includes a new list and an old list. The new list may include new missed call elements and missed call elements associated with new unopened voicemails. Abstract: Techniques for attaching content to a voicemail are described. Content may be attached to a voicemail by storing the content and the voicemail in a common container or envelope, embedding the content at a location within the voicemail, tagging the content with an identifier identifying the voicemail, tagging the voicemail with a tag identifying the content and a location of the content on a network, or otherwise associating the content with the voicemail. A representation of the content to be attached to the voicemail may be visually displayed on a user interface of an originating telecommunications device before attaching the content to the voicemail.

Abstract: A method and system for testing voice applications, such as VoiceXML applications, is provided. The system provides a run-time simulation environment for voice applications that simulates and automates user interaction. A user simulation script is provided in a customized mark-up language. The voice application is processed to derive a nominal output of the voice application. The user simulation script is processed to generate a simulated output for the voice application corresponding to the nominal output. The user simulation script is also processed to generate a simulated input for the voice application corresponding to a pre-determined user input to the voice application. The simulated inputs and outputs are executed in conjunction with the voice application in real-time to test the application.

Abstract: Methods and Systems are provided for managing one or more communications lines associated with a user of a communications network. A service center may receive from a user line management information regarding one or more of the user's communications lines. This line management information may include a request from the user to handle all calls to the communications line in a particular manner (e.g., forward all calls to a different number). This line management information may also include information regarding scheduling the handling of calls to the communications line (e.g., scheduling call forwarding) or a request to handle calls differently based on information identifying the origination of the call (e.g., caller-ID). The service center may then forward instructions to the communications network such that the components (e.g., SSP or SCP) of the communications network implement the user's modifications.

Abstract: A system and method for processing calls in a call center are described. A call session from a caller via a session manager and including incoming text messages of a verbal speech stream is assigned. The incoming text messages are progressively visually presented throughout the call session to a live agent on an agent console operatively coupled to the session manager. The incoming text messages are progressively processed through a customer support scenario interactively monitored and controlled by the live agent via the agent console. The incoming text messages are processed through automated script execution in concert with the live agent. Outgoing text messages are converted into a synthesized speech stream. The synthesized speech stream is sent via the agent console to the caller.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention are directed to software that allows a callee to access and filter data related to a voicemail message. In accordance with one embodiment, searchable index key(s) are identified that are associated with a selected voicemail message. Then, a search is performed to identify data that is related to the selected voicemail message using the index key(s). Once the search is performed, a user interface is presented that references data identified as being related to the voicemail message. As a result, a callee may easily access and review data related to a voicemail message without being required to use multiple software applications.

Abstract: A system and method for call logging and retrieval includes receiving a call log of a first call made by a user. The call log of the first call may include, for example, the start and end time of the call, and/or the like. The context for the call is provided by the user. A call record is stored for each call of a number of calls made to and from the user. The record for the first call includes the call log of the first call and the context for the first call.

Abstract: Methods of playing audio commercials to telephone users while waiting for a connection to be completed are known. This disclosure relates to better targeting such commercials. In the proposed telephone network, the service provider makes use of data relating to the personal profile of any contacting subscriber, previously collected during a registration process. A database is used to select the commercial best matching the profile.

Abstract: IMS networks, text message systems, and methods are disclosed for delivering text messages to IMS wireline phones. A text message system of an IMS network receives a text message intended for the IMS wireline phone. The text message system identifies capability data for an IMS wireline phone that indicates the capability of the IMS wireline phone for handling text messages. The text message system processes the capability data for the IMS wireline phone to determine if the IMS wireline phone is capable of handling text messages. If the IMS wireline phone is not capable of handling text messages, then the text message system appends the text message to a caller ID header of an IMS signaling message, and forwards the IMS signaling message to the IMS wireline phone to display the text message on a caller ID unit associated with the IMS wireline phone.

Abstract: A method and apparatus, and system for storing voicemail data are provided. Voicemail data is generated at a telephony device engaged in a communication session with a calling telephony device, the voicemail data comprising a voice message. E-mail data is then automatically generating after the voicemail data is generated, the e-mail data comprising data identifying the voicemail data, the e-mail data further comprising the voicemail data. The e-mail data is then transmitted to a network address associated with a remote e-mail server, such that the e-mail data, including the voicemail data, is stored at the remote e-mail server.

Abstract: A mechanism for indicating a specific response message to be played to a caller is provided. A call that comprises an identification of a caller is received in a recipient device. If the recipient device is operating in the phone management mode, a recipient notification of the call is blocked on the recipient device. If the caller is identified as a known caller based on the identification of the caller, a caller specific response message is sent to the known caller. The caller specific response message is at least one of an interactive or a non-interactive caller specific response message. The interactive response message includes a code with which to respond. If the response message is the interactive response message and the caller enters the code associated with the interactive response message, then the recipient notification of the call is activated on the recipient device.

The processing system is configured to receive a first email auto-reply instruction through the user interface, direct the wireless communication interface to transfer the first email auto-reply instruction for delivery to an email server, convert the first email auto-reply instruction into a voice mail greeting, and direct the wireless communication interface to transfer a first voice mail greeting instruction for delivery to a voice mail server.

The servers may include memories including a first database to store voicemail message information associated with a voicemail mailbox and a user device, and a second database to associate a plurality of user devices with a voice-to-text transcription service; and a receiver to receive a new voicemail message associated with the voicemail mailbox. The servers may also include a processor to query to the second database to determine whether to request a voice-to-text transcription of an audio file associated with the new voicemail message and to determine whether to notify the user device of the new voicemail message before or after receiving the voice-to-text transcription of the audio file. The servers may also include a transmitter to send a notification of the new voicemail message to the user device according to the determination of whether to notify the user device of the new voicemail message before or after receiving the voice-to-text transcription of the audio file.

Abstract: An apparatus for taking an electronic message from a user and actively notifying a receiver is disclosed. The apparatus includes a message input device for receiving the electronic message from the user, a message storing device for storing the electronic message therein, a message playing device for playing the electronic message, a vibration detector for detecting a certain level of vibration, a controller electrically connected to the message input device, the message storing device, the message playing device and the vibration detector, and a case accommodating the message input device, the message storing device, the message playing device, the vibration detector and the controller therein. The vibration detector sends out a trigger signal in response to the vibration, and the controller allows the electronic message to be read out from the message storing device and played by the message playing device in response to the trigger signal.
