  • Patent number: 8328089
Abstract: A method, system, and program provides for hands free contact database information entry at a communication device. A recording system at a communication device detects a user initiation to record. Responsive to detecting the user initiation to record, the recording system records the ongoing conversation supported between the communication device and a second remote communication device. The recording system converts the recording of the conversation into text. Next, the recording system extracts contact information from the text. Then, the recording system stores the extracted contact information in an entry of the contact database, such that contact information is added to the contact database of the communication device without manual entry of the contact information by the user.

  • Patent number: 8325886
Abstract: Methods and systems for call processing are described. In an illustrative embodiment, a call processing system answers a call from a caller intended for a first party and records a message from the caller. The call processing system stores call information and the caller message. Some or all of the caller message is transmitted in substantially real time to a terminal associated with the first party. Further, at least a portion of the caller message is converted to text, which is transmitted to a terminal associated with the first party and is stored for later access. The first party can then submit a search query with respect to the stored information. When a search query is received from the first party, the system searches a data store to determine if there is matching call and provides the first party with information related to a matching call.

Abstract: An exemplary system and associated method for a communications system allowing responses to messages in an electronic environment are disclosed. The communications need not be based on the same platform or carrier. The system comprises a processing center to couple to a telephony network where the processing center provides a sender, not subscribed to the system, with messaging capabilities. The processing center includes a voice mail server to record a message from the sender and retrieve the message for a recipient that is subscribed to the system. A call processing logic module is arranged to access a database to determine whether a telephony device used by the sender has non-voice capabilities. The call processing logic module can notify the recipient of the message and informs the recipient of the capabilities of the sender to allow various response modalities (e.g., by voice mail, e-mail, or text message).

Abstract: The subject matter of this disclosure can be implemented in, among other things, a device that includes processors, means for receiving a voicemail greeting template having a default portion and a placeholder portion, wherein the default portion is included in voicemail greetings generated based on the voicemail greeting template, and a user status propagation module executable by the one or more processors. In these examples, the user status propagation module receives status information for a user or a device, wherein the status information includes a state of the user or a state of the device, and replaces the placeholder portion of the voicemail greeting template with the received status information to generate a personalized voicemail greeting of the user that includes the default portion and the received status information, wherein output of the personalized voicemail greeting is initiated in response to an incoming phone call.

  • Patent number: 8199888
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, computer-implemented methods, and tangible computer-readable media for automatically transcribing voicemail. The method includes receiving a plurality of voicemail messages from callers, identifying for each voicemail message in the plurality of voicemail messages a first frequency with which the respective caller leaves voicemails, identifying for each voicemail message in the plurality of voicemail messages a second frequency with which a user requests transcription of each voicemail, assigning a priority ranking to each voicemail message in the plurality of voicemail messages based on the respective first frequency and the respective second frequency, and transcribing untranscribed voicemail messages with a highest priority ranking. The method can include establishing a priority ranking threshold and repeatedly transcribing a next highest ranking untranscribed voicemail message until no further untranscribed voicemail messages remain above the priority ranking threshold.

  • Patent number: 8194829
Abstract: When one party to an active call has momentarily stepped away from the call that has not been put on hold, the other party can record and leave a message for the party that stepped away, and then hang up. The call is monitored for return of the party that stepped away. When the returned party begins to speak, the message is immediately played to the returned party in response. In a conference, after a conferee who wishes to leave the conference, records a message and hangs up, the conference is monitored for either a break in the conversation or conversation directed to the party that left, and in response the message is played to the other conferees.

Abstract: A method for generating a ring tone for a given caller based on a prior conversation with that caller. A portion of a conversation with a given caller is recorded and stored in memory as a ring tone. When a subsequent call is received from the same caller, identified by caller ID, the ring tone is played, alerting the user to the incoming call as well as the context of their prior communication. In alternative embodiments of the invention, a prior textual or video conversation is used as the basis for a ring tone, and/or the ‘ring tone’ is delivered by other than audio means. The invention is capable of implementation in telecommunications systems such as cellular, local exchange, and VOIP, and in combination with other forms of internet-based telecommunication.
