  • Patent number: 8842887
Abstract: Biometric data, suitably transformed are obtained from a biometric input device contained within a stand-alone computing device and used in conjunction with a PIN to authenticate the user to the device. The biometric template and other data residing on the device are encrypted using hardware elements of the device, the PIN and Password hash. A stored obfuscated password is de-obfuscated and released to the device authentication mechanism in response to a successfully decrypted template and matching biometric sample and PIN. The de-obfuscated password is used to authenticate the user to device, the user to a remote computer, and to encrypt device data at rest on the device and in transit to and from the remote computer. This creates a trusted relationship between the stand-alone device and the remote computer. The system also eliminates the need for the user to remember and enter complex passwords on the device.

Abstract: A method to automatically classify video content retrieved over the Internet and, in particular, to determine whether a candidate video is an instance of a source video. The method begins by sampling static image frames from each of the candidate video and the source video. Based on the sampled static image frames, a set of static image frames in the candidate video that match a corresponding set of static image frames in the source video are then identified. Metadata associated with the sets of matching static image frames are then compared to determine how closely a temporal order of the set of static image frames in the candidate video matches the temporal order of the set of static image frames in the source video. Based on a measure of temporal order match, a classification is then applied to the candidate video to complete the method.

Abstract: Techniques for generating cross-modality semantic classifiers and using those cross-modality semantic classifiers for ground level photo geo-location using digital elevation are provided. In one aspect, a method for generating cross-modality semantic classifiers is provided. The method includes the steps of: (a) using Geographic Information Service (GIS) data to label satellite images; (b) using the satellite images labeled with the GIS data as training data to generate semantic classifiers for a satellite modality; (c) using the GIS data to label Global Positioning System (GPS) tagged ground level photos; (d) using the GPS tagged ground level photos labeled with the GIS data as training data to generate semantic classifiers for a ground level photo modality, wherein the semantic classifiers for the satellite modality and the ground level photo modality are the cross-modality semantic classifiers.

  • Patent number: 8787680
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for finding images from a large corpus of images that at least partially match a query image. The present method makes use of feature detectors to bundle features into local groups or bundles. These bundled features are repeatable and much more discriminative than an individual SIFT feature. Equally importantly, the bundled features provide a flexible representation that allows simple and robust geometric constraints to be efficiently enforced when querying the index.

  • Patent number: 8774534
Abstract: A system and method for compressing a digital image may store a dictionary having a plurality of predetermined template patterns each identified by a code. The image may be divided into a plurality of sub-regions, and a template pattern may be selected from the dictionary that most closely matches an image features for each sub-region. A compressed data set may be generated for the image in which each sub-region is represented by a code identifying the associated template pattern. Once the data is compressed, the image may be reconstructed using the code from the compressed data set to retrieve the template pattern from the dictionary for each sub-region and may reconstruct a full image by combining the template patterns for all of the sub-regions.

  • Patent number: 8774527
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure pertain to matching a selected image/photograph against a database of reference images having location information. The image of interest may include some location information itself, such as latitude/longitude coordinates and orientation. This location information may be based on information obtained when the user's device interacts with base stations or other access points in a wireless communication network, such as signal strength information. The location information is used as an estimated location. The image of interest and the estimated location are used to select one or more cells to match the image against. Each cell may have multiple images and an index. The image is compared against specific cells, and if a match is found, a front end server identifies the correct location and orientation of the received image, and may correct errors in the estimated location of the user device.
