Patent number: 4988218Abstract: A thrust bearing or thrust bearings are adapted to be used in pressurized lubricating systems to maintain lubricant under pressure in these systems. The pressure assures improved lubrication and particularly with a grease lubricant improves lubrication and system life, and maintains the system free of voids and contaminants. Seals within the system maintain pressure and prevent lubricant outflow while functioning with static and/or moving parts. Round or square cross-sectioned O-rings preferably act as seals. A special O-ring having separable end segments may be used in the systems with the thrust bearings to seal against pressure and lubricant outflow.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1988Date of Patent: January 29, 1991Inventor: Lawrence D. Patent number: 4799809Abstract: This rolling bearing includes an inner race, an outer race, rolling members--either balls or rollers--disposed between these races and rotatably supporting them relative to one another, and generally cylindrical retainers disposed between these rolling members, each rolling on its two adjacent rolling members and keeping them apart. Each retainer has an axially central portion rollingly contacting with these two adjacent rolling members, a pair of circumferential grooves each near one of its ends, and a pair of disk shaped end portions each near one of its ends. These retainers are positioned by their disk shaped end portions rolling on the one radial sides of support rails defined on a pair of covers mounted each at one axial end of one race, and by their grooves being engaged over the other radial sides of free rings each at one bearing axial end. The retainers either may roll on the radially outer sides of the rails and on the radially inner sides of the rings, or vice versa.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1987Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Inventor: Kazuo Kuroiwa

Patent number: 4797014Abstract: A high-spped anti-friction bearing particularly useful for airplane power plants, the bearing having an outer ring and an inner ring. The inner ring is axially split at the rolling elements into two axial sections. The axial sections are each generally L-shaped in cross section, with one arm of each L backed against the other. To enable the bearing rings to be relatively thin walled in the radial direction and to prevent undesirable deformation thereof during the manufacture or installation, each of the rings is provided on at least one axial side and preferably on both axial sides with projecting axial extensions. Each extension preferably tapers narrower in its radial thickness axially outward. Each extension includes a cylindrical portion and a frustoconically shaped portion, usually with the cylindrical portion axially more inward and the frustoconical portion axially more outward.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1988Date of Patent: January 10, 1989Assignee: FAG Kugelfischer Georg Schafer (KGaA)Inventor: Patrick Nicolich

Patent number: 4609293Abstract: The disclosure concerns an anti-friction bearing between a rotating shaft and an external bushing. The bearing includes two axially spaced apart rows of bearing balls. A feed bushing is disposed in the space between the shaft and the external bushing and between the two rows of bearings. The feed bushing is open at the axial ends for dispensing lubricant to the rows of bearings at the axial ends of the feed bushing. The feed bushing holds lubricant, such as grease, in itself for being dispensed at the axial ends of the feed bushing. A porous elastic material may be disposed in the feed bushing for being impregnated with the lubricant. The feed bushing, and also the porous material if used, are elastic and resilient to permit deflection of the shaft with respect to the external bushing. Various shape and configuration feed bushings are disclosed. A lubricant recharging hole passes through the external bushing and communicates to the feed bushing.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1984Date of Patent: September 2, 1986Assignee: FAG Kugelfischer Georg Schafer (KGaA)Inventors: Oswald Bayer, Martin Grehn, Edwin Hey, Hans-Karl Lorosch, Walter Vogel
