    Abstract: A multi-row rolling element bearing assembly is provided for use in applications, such as differentials. The rolling element bearing assembly includes an inner race defining at least two inner raceways, an outer race defining at least two outer raceways, and a plurality of rolling elements positioned between the inner and outer raceways formed in at least two rows. The bearing assembly includes a novel lubrication system which reduces the maximum temperature attained by the bearing during operation of the bearing and the time spent at that maximum temperature. The lubrication system includes a forced lubrication port connectable to a forced lubrication system, a secondary lubrication port extending from one of said outer surfaces to said radial inner surface, and a tertiary lubrication port. The forced lubrication system delivers lubricant to the bearing through the forced lubrication port. The bearing is partially submerged in lubricant when installed in an application.

    Abstract: A ball bearing assembly has an outer ring and an inner ring defining the respective outer and inner races, and a plurality of balls separated on the circumference by a cage ring. The inner ring is split into a loaded half and a non-loaded half. The cage lands on the inner ring halves support the cage ring. An annular groove having a non-rectangular cross-section is disposed at the inner ring bore and at the split face. A plurality of radial grooves extend in the split face of one inner ring half to form radial passages between the annular groove and the inner race for directing oil under centrifugal forces collected in the annular groove, into the inner race. Each radial passage has an aperture in the annular groove located in an intermediate section thereof so that the bottom section of the annular groove acts as a reservoir to feed all the radial passages as well as provide a longer residence time for the oil on loaded inner ring surfaces.

    Abstract: A portable pressure regulated lubrication system for all bearings derived from using a specially designed thrust bearing. The thrust bearing carries a lubricant from a lubrication fitting on the outside of the thrust bearing to the outer race or races in a bearing hub, which in turn feed the internal bearing rollers or balls and rotating surfaces. The lubricant from the fitting coming in travels without any loss sealed within static seals thus assuring full and positive lubrication of the bearings. The pressure within the system is maintained and protected against excess pressure by a relief fitting with a set rating. The pressure assures improved lubrication and particularly with a grease lubricant improves lubrication and system life, and maintains the system free of voids and contaminants. Seals within the system maintain pressure and prevent lubricant outflow while functioning with static and/or moving parts. Round or square cross-sectioned O-Rings preferably act as seals.

    Abstract: A rolling-contact type bearing for rotatably supporting a spindle of a machine is cooled by a temperature controlled liquid lubricant supplied to an internal cavity or passageways provided in the spindle, and circulated toward the bearing so that the temperature controlled liquid lubricant comes into direct or indirect contact with the bearing in the order of the inner race, the rolling element, and the outer recess, to thereby apply a cooling and lubricating effect to those elements. The lubricant after cooling is collected to a lubricant-temperature controller to be subjected to a temperature control treatment for reuse as a coolant. An air seal is applied to a lubricant entrance of the spindle where the temperature controlled lubricant is supplied from a lubricant supply member into the spindle, to thereby prevent a leakage of the lubricant toward the exterior.

    Abstract: A bearing assembly for supporting a shaft in a housing includes two single row tapered roller bearings mounted in axial alignment, yet in opposition. The first bearing is conventional, having the usual cup, cone and complement of tapered rollers. The second bearing has a conventional cone and complement of rollers which may be the same as their counterparts in the first bearing. However, the cup of the second bearing further has an integral axial extension which projects toward and abuts the back face of the cup for the first bearing. The two cones are separated by a spacer and are clamped between two radial abutments on the shaft, whereas the cup of the second bearing is clamped with respect to the housing such that it is incapable of shifting relative to the housing. This secures the entire bearing assembly in the housing.

The feed bushing, and also the porous material if used, are elastic and resilient to permit deflection of the shaft with respect to the external bushing.
