Abstract: A seal plate 8 is located between the outer ring 1 and inner ring 3, and the outer diameter 11 side of the this seal plate 8 is fastened to the stationary ring 1, and the lip 13 an the inner-diameter 12 side comes into sliding contact with or keeps a clearance with respect to the inner ring 3 to secure seal performance, and there is a protruding section 19 formed on the side surface 18 on the outside of the seal plate 8, so that a clearance 29 is formed between the protruding section 19 and the peripheral part 25 near the bearing. Consequently, it is possible to provide a sealed-type rolling bearing where the seal performance is improved without increasing cost, by providing not only sealing in the lip portion but also sealing between the bearing and the peripheral part near the bearing.

  • Patent number: 6517251
Abstract: An overmolded motor bearing is provided for use with an electric motor. A conventional ball-bearing has a rubberized sleeve molded directly onto the bearing so that the bearing and insulating rubber sleeve form a unitary subassembly. The bearing sub-assembly is formed by inserting the conventional ball-bearing directly into the mold of an injection molding machine. Importantly, the rubberized material encapsulating the bearing extends around the outer bearing race and along the side faces of the bearing. In a preferred embodiment, separate nylon washers are installed on either side of the bearing when the bearing is inserted into the mold. The rubberized material is then injection molded around the outer bearing race to capture the nylon washers. The preferred embodiment thus prevents the bearing shields on the side faces of the bearing from being subjected to the injection molding pressures within the mold which can deform and thus damage the bearing shields.

Abstract: To make available to the vehicle control systems more information on the forces and directions of the forces which act on the individual tires, in order to determine these forces, the displacements between the outer ring and inner ring in the wheel bearings are measured in a contactless fashion using ultrasound. Displacements are measured by one or more sets of an ultrasound transmitter and a receiver on the stationary ring and a reflection surface on the rotating ring for reflecting back the ultrasound energy. The measured time until the signal is received enables displacement to be determined. It is possible to use these displacements to calculate the forces acting from a knowledge of the spring characteristic of the wheel bearings.

  • Patent number: 5051003
Abstract: A rolling bearing includes an outer ring having an inner cylindrical peripheral surface which is stepped at its one end portion to provide a stepped surface portion of a greater diameter extending axially from one end of the outer ring over a given length. A metal shield member includes a cylindrical body which is fixedly press-fitted in that portion of the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring disposed adjacent to the stepped surface portion in such a manner that one end of the cylindrical body of the metal shield member is disposed between the one end of the outer ring and said that portion of the inner peripheral surface in spaced relation to the stepped surface portion. With this construction, when press-fitting the metal shield member in the outer ring, the one end of the cylindrical body of the metal shield member will not be brought into contact with the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring.

Abstract: An industrial robot rotation shaft apparatus according to the invention has a waterproof structure obtained by providing the outer surface of a rotatable support (3) with an integrally formed, peripheral skirt portion (3c). A stationary support (2) is provided with a complementary, projecting collar portion (7b) substantially conforming to the inner surface of the skirt portion. The two complementary elements oppose each other while maintaining a small clearance therebetween. This makes it possible to shut out dust, water droplets and the like which would otherwise penetrate the interior of the robot from outside. As a result, rusting of the internal parts and the motor due to water droplets and debris penetrating the same is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4911564
Abstract: A bearing guard is adapted for use in connection with a machine such as a chipping/shredding/grinding machine for lawn and garden use. The bearing guard is used in connection with self-aligning bearings which support the ends of a rotatable shaft provided on the machine and which is exposed to a work cavity in which the chipping, shredding or grinding operations take place. The bearing guard protects the bearings from material which is retained on the rotatable shaft during operation of the machine. The bearing guard comprises a shield surface disposed between the work cavity of the machine and the side of the bearing facing the work cavity. The shield surface has an opening through which the rotatable shaft of the machine passes. The opening is in relatively close dimensional tolerance with respect to the outer surface of the shaft, so as to resist contact of material retained on the shaft with the side of bearing during operation of the machine.

  • Patent number: 4898480
Abstract: A sealed, rolling element bearing includes an inner race attached to a shaft, an outer race attached to a housing, a plurality of rolling elements in an annular region and a pair of shields extending inwardly from the outer race toward the inner race so as to substantially enclose the annular region. The shields have a closely-spaced, noncontacting relationship with the inner race thereby defining gaps. The elements of the bearing are of magnetically permeable material, and the sealed bearing includes means for producing a magnetic field in the gaps and in the regions where the rolling elements contact the races. A ferrofluid is retained by the magnetic field in the gaps for sealing and in the regions of contact between the rolling elements and the races for lubrication. A reservoir of ferrofluid in the regions between the two seals replenishes ferrofluid lost at the sealing and lubrication areas.

Abstract: In a guide roller assembly such as utilized for supporting a reciprocating yarn guide rod in a textile winding machine, the guide roller assembly having an outer shell rotatably supported on a carrier member by an interposed ball bearing assembly, problems of internal contamination of the guide roller assembly are avoided by provision of a plurality of annular projecting walls on one or both of the outer shell and the carrier member to define narrow annular spacings between the outer shell and the carrier member at the annular walls and annular air chambers in radial series between the walls. The narrow annular spacings are preferably of a maximum dimension in the range of a few tenths of a millimeter. Debris entering the interior of the guide roller assembly tends to be propelled radially outwardly and accumulates at the annular spacings to resist entry of further debris.

A sealing ring is fixed to the outer ring and rotates with it. At the inner ring, the sealing ring has a resilient sealing lip with a sealing edge adjacent the inner ring.
