Publication number: 20030059234Abstract: An image forming apparatus of the present invention uses a highly viscous, dense developing liquid consisting of a carrier liquid and toner dispersed therein. A developing unit includes a developer carrier and a coating member for coating the developing liquid on the developer carrier. The developer carrier conveys the liquid to a developing zone where it faces an image carrier to thereby develop a latent image formed on the image carrier with the liquid. In the developing zone, the toner in the liquid, which faces the image of the image carrier, is caused to move toward the image by electrophoresis to thereby form a toner layer in which the toner is present in the carrier liquid and a carrier layer in which the toner is absent in the same. When the developer carrier and image carrier moved away from the developing zone part from each other, the toner is caused to move toward the image over a degree at which the developing liquid can separate at the boundary between the toner layer and the carrier layer.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 5, 2002Publication date: March 27, 2003Inventors: Tsutomu Sasaki, Mie Yoshino, Yusuke Takeda, Tsuneo Kurotori, Tohru Nakano, Noriyasu Takeuchi

Patent number: 6539191Abstract: A method and system for forming electrophotographic images by forming on a transfer belt color toner images of, e.g., the colors of transparent, yellow, magenta, cyan and black in that order from the side of the belt. When the toner images are brought into contact under pressure with, and then transferred to, a recording medium, e.g. a copy sheet, the image on the sheet is obtained with the order of the layers reversed with the transparent toner layer as the uppermost. With the use of transparent toners having relatively large particle size to cover a plurality of underlying color toner layers formed beforehand, the efficiency in image fixing is considerably improved. In addition, by using UV curing resin as the carrier and by forming a film from the carrier itself through the curing steps by UV beam irradiation, the image fixing and surface glossiness are much improved in the electrophotographic color image formation.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Ricoh Company, Ltd.Inventor: Masahiko Itaya

The developed image is created by separating and selectively transferring portions of a high solids content secondary toner cake layer in correspondence with the image and non-image regions of the latent image. A toner cake layer delivery apparatus draws from a supply of high solids content liquid developing material to form a primary toner cake layer on a receiving surface of a receiving member. The primary toner cake layer is subject to uniform charging to a first polarity followed by an induced charge of a second, opposing polarity to a selectable depth.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2000Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Weizhong Zhao, Chu-heng Liu

Publication number: 20020098016Abstract: An excess toner removal area is made broader over the whole area with respect to a developer applied area that is broader than an image effective area. Thereby a liquid developer, that tends to spread slightly broader than the applied area after being applied to a photoreceptor drum, is removed by a sweep roller that can sweep excess toner present in an area broader than the original applied area and an excess toner remaining area is then prevented from being formed on the photoreceptor drum. Accordingly, the excess toner on the latent image carrier is removed as much as possible, and a transfer medium and peripheral members are prevented from being soiled due to residual excess toner.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2002Publication date: July 25, 2002Inventors: Tsuneo Kurotori, Tsutomu Sasaki, Mie Yoshino, Noriyasu Takeuchi, Tohru Nakano, Yusuke Takeda

Patent number: 6418288Abstract: A carrier collection device having an absorption belt, a heat source, a vapor collection tube, an absorption device, a condenser, a foaming member. The absorption belt absorbs a carrier from a developer, including a toner and the carrier, after being used for developing an electrostatic latent image on a photo-conductor. The heat source generates a carrier vapor from the absorption belt. The vapor collection tube surrounds the absorption belt. The absorption device absorbs the carrier vapor from the vapor collection tube. The condenser is arranged between the vapor collection tube and the absorption device. The condenser stores a coolant carrier in advance, includes a foaming member for foaming the carrier from the carrier vapor. Further, the condenser receives the carrier vapor from the vapor collection tube, condenses the received carrier vapor through the coolant carrier and the foaming member, and stores the condensed carrier together with the coolant carrier.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2001Date of Patent: July 9, 2002Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Junichi Saitoh

Publication number: 20020085860Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for forming electrophotographic images by forming on a transfer belt color toner images of, e.g., the colors of transparent, yellow, magenta, cyan and black in that order from the side of the belt. In addition, by using UV curing resin as the carrier and by forming a film from the carrier itself through the curing steps by UV beam irradiation, the image fixing and surface glossiness are much improved in the electrophotographic color image formation.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2001Publication date: July 4, 2002Inventor: Masahiko Itaya

Patent number: 6415124Abstract: In a wet-type developing unit (300), a plating roller (400) is disposed parallel to a development roller (110) at a predetermined distance. The plating roller (400) is connected to a variable power source (402) controlled by a voltage controller (404). The plating roller (400) is supplied with a voltage from the variable power source (402) and has an electric potential higher than that of the development roller (110) to move charged particle toners included in a liquid developer film adhered on the development roller (110) toward the development roller (110). The plating roller (400) reduces thickness of the liquid developer film and increase a solid component ratio of the liquid developer film. When the solid component ratio is large, pressure given by a squeezed roller (118) can be smaller.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: July 2, 2002Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hiroshi Nishikawa
