Engaging Notch Or Recess In Outer Periphery Of Component Patents (Class 403/93)
  • Patent number: 5026198
Abstract: In a lockable folding joint of a ladder having two arms with their flat heads pivoted to one another, a detent block used to engage one of spaced notches of one of the flat heads is held resiliently and firmly by an improved mechanism. The mechanism includes a one-piece curved rod spring which has two opposite arc-shaped rod portions whose one ends are attached to the detent block, two coiled portions formed at another ends of the arc-shaped rod portions and a U-shaped rod portion extending from the coiled portions. A spring plate has a rolled end pivoted to one of the arm with the same pivot pin as the coiled portions. The U-shaped portion depresses the spring plate so that the hook end of the spring plate is engaged tightly with the detent block.

  • Patent number: 4986602
Abstract: An irreversible continuous pivotal connection between a fixed part and a movable part includes a fixed side plate fixed with respect to the fixed part and having an arcuate array of teeth, as well as a movable side plate fixed with respect to the movable part and having an arcuate array of teeth. The movable side plate is mounted parallel to the fixed side plate for rotation about a fixed common axis. A planet gear is positioned between the fixed and movable side plates, and has two external arcuate arrays of teeth with different diameters and locally meshing with the arcuate arrays of teeth of the fixed and movable side plates. An eccentric member is mounted for rotation about the fixed axis and presses on the planet gear so that rotation of the eccentric member in one direction causes epicyclic rotation of the planet gear in another direction.

  • Patent number: 4929112
Abstract: A new tool handle is disclosed that permits a wiping blade, brush, or similar tool to be positioned in a variety of angular positions. The device utilizes a spline, set in a block to rotate the tool carrying wrist. The spline is locked into place by a pin which is slidably positioned within the block. The handle of the device is used to engage the pin. The handle is provided with threads which engage similar threads in the block. As the handle is screwed into the block, it engages the pin and pushes it upwards against the spline, thereby locking the tool carrying wrist in place. The angle can be changed by simply backing out the handle until the pin drops, thereby releasing the spline, which can then be rotated into a new position and again locked into place. The device also utilizes a blade mounting plate which attaches to the tool carrying wrist. The working tools are attached to this plate. The plate is fastened to the wrist by a bolt, nut and nylon washer.

A manually operable coupling mechanism permits the movement and automatically locks the wiper arm to the wiper arm driver in the first angular position during movement towards the first limit position immediately after movement from the park position towards the second limit position. The coupling mechanism includes a locking member and a cam having first and second communicating grooves in which the locking member is alternately positioned. The cam is mounted on the wiper arm driver to rotate about the pivot axis.

  • Patent number: 4620813
Abstract: The present disclosure describes a mechanism for positioning a pair of members in slip-free, adjustable, angular relationships. In accomplishing the foregoing, an assembly is provided which comprises a sphere and a pair of pivotally mounted jaw-like sections for engaging the latter. The inner surfaces of the sections have substantially the same radius of curvature as the sphere surface. Additionally, the sphere surface and the inner surfaces of the jaw-like sections are configured in respective interlocking patterns. Manipulation of the jaw-like sections allows the members to be placed in the desired angular position with respect to each other--which position is maintained by virtue of the aforementioned interlocking nature of the contiguous surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4619542
Abstract: A locking mechanism for a divided grip rod of a foldable baby carriage permits automatically locking the grip rod in an unfolded state and this locking can be canceled by a simple operation. The grip rod (2) is divided into two portions (2a, 2b), which are interconnected at their ends while being supported for rotation around the axes of parallel rotary shafts (6). Lateral surfaces of the ends of the portions of the grip rod intersect the rotary shafts. Each lateral surface has a locking recess (12). A locking plate (4) is movable axially of the rotary shafts so that it can fit simultaneously in the two locking recesses when the grip rod is in its straight state. The locking plate is urged by a spring in the direction in which it fits in the locking recesses for normally maintaining the locked state. An unlocking member (5) is provided to for disengaging the locking plate from the locking recesses against the force of the spring to permit folding of the grip rod.

Abstract: Apparatus for erection of arcuate walls of poured concrete has one or more deformable sheathings secured to turnable supports which are movably secured to one another by composite girders having alternating rigid variable-length links and fixed-length connectors which are affixed to the supports. The angular positions of the supports are changed by changing the length of the links. Locking devices are provided to hold the links against angular movement relative to the neighboring connectors when the sheathing assumes the desired shape. The locking devices can constitute separable components or they may be permanently mounted on and/or integrated into the links and/or connectors.

  • Patent number: 4616844
Abstract: In both the opened and closed states of a baby carriage, the push rod-side engaging portion (35) of a lock operating member (29) engages either of the two engaging portions (20, 21) formed on a connecting rod (4), whereby each of the opened and closed states can be locked. For example, in the opened state, the push rod-side engaging portion (35) engages the opened state locking purpose connecting rod-side engaging portion (20) of the connecting rod (4), whereby the push rod (3) and connecting rod (4), which are now in their linear state, are maintained in this state, and since this engagement is forced by a spring (34), a reliable locked state can be obtained.

Abstract: A joint mechanism comprised of two pivotally connected joint members rotatable about a common axis is lockable in one of a series of predetermined positions by engagement of a spring-biased pawl provided within one joint member within notches distributed about the peripheral edge of the other joint member. An operating lever comprised of a forked release element and a handle pivotally connected together cooperates with a control means to control locking and unlocking of the joint mechanism. The control means has radially extending resilient arms formed at the free end with upturned claws which, when projecting through slits formed in one side of the other joint member, prevents engagement of the pawl within said notches, and which, when being depressed into said slits by the release element of the operating lever, permits engagement of the pawl within the notches.

Abstract: Improvements in a foldable multi-position ladder joint in which one side of the locking disk of the second joint member is provided between each notch thereof and the common axial bolt with cams capable of one-way rotation under the driving action of the release element of the operating lever. The other end of the cam shaft returns the cam to its normal position upon pivoting movement of a ratchet hooked with a tension spring. Swinging of the operating lever in disengaging the locking pawl from a notch concomitantly moves the corresponding cam to rotate thereby making way for the release element to pass over and subsequent turning of the cam back to its normal position. Release of the release element is however prevented making possible the closing of the notch in achieving directly the purpose of whether or not the pawl is to be engaged in the notch.References are given here to applicant's prior U.S. applications with Ser. • Patent number: 4540306
Abstract: A joint having two joint members which are pivotable with respect to each other about a common axis is lockable in a series of predetermined angular positions by engaging a spring-biased pawl provided within one member in notches formed at the peripheral edge of the other member. In manually operating the joint, the forked release element and the handle pivotably connected with each other act as an operating lever in cooperation with the clawed, spring-loaded control means in controlling locking and unlocking of the joint. The claw like stop portion of the control means, when being pushed to one side within the slot having its length at least twice longer than the width of the notch by the release element in counter-clockwise direction, permits engagement of the pawl in the notches and, upon operation of the handle thereby disengaging the pawl from the notches, returns to rest position under its spring force in clockwise direction.
