With Integral Chip Breaker, Guide Or Deflector Patents (Class 407/114)
  • Publication number: 20140286718
Abstract: A double-sided, indexable, polygonal turning insert includes a plurality of corners, a peripheral clearance surface, and identical upper and under sides. Along the upper side and underside, primary cutting edges, which individually include a nose edge situated in a corner and two main edges, converge toward the same and transform into auxiliary cutting edges, which separate each pair of primary cutting edges along one and the same side. Chip-directing guide surfaces are placed inside the chip surfaces of the cutting edges. The primary cutting edge has a generally positive cutting geometry such that a wedge angle of the cutting edge between the chip surface and the clearance surface is acute in arbitrary sections along the nose edge, as well as along the two main edges. In such a way, the primary cutting edge produces chips that can be guided in a careful, although distinct, way by the guide surfaces.

Abstract: A milling tool has single sided and indexable milling inserts having a round basic shape. Each milling insert has a plurality of tangentially spaced-apart and alternately usable cutting edges, which individually fall archedly from a first end, situated closest to an upper reference plane, to a lowest point, from which it again rises toward a second end. A reinforcing chamfer surface included in the cutting edge is formed with an increasing width in a direction from the first end of the cutting edge toward the second end.

Abstract: An indexable cutting insert has mutually perpendicular longitudinal, lateral and vertical axes. The insert includes two opposite cutting portions and a clamping portion therebetween, arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis. Each cutting portion includes a rake surface and front and side relief flanks, and a cutting edge formed at an intersection of the rake surface and front relief flank. A second width of the clamping portion is greater than the first width of the cutting edges. The clamping portion has two resilient beams and a flexibility aperture opening out to side abutment surfaces of the clamping portion, allowing elastic deformation of the insert along the vertical axis. The cutting insert may further include two opposite stopper portions, each formed on a respective insert end surfaces, each stopper portion forming a step in the respective insert end surface. A cutting tool clamps one or more inserts at their clamping portions.
