  • Patent number: 5876161
Abstract: An apparatus and method for making an elongated hole in a pipe which includes drilling a rotating conical tool through the pipe wall by pushing the conical tool in the direction of its rotating axis to a desired depth, then simultaneously lifting and tilting the conical bit so as to mill one end of an elongated hole. The rotatable conical tool may be lifted and tilted in the opposite direction to further mill the pipe and elongate the hole. Tilting is effected relative to a pivot point located above the top pipe surface and in a plane extending through a center axis of the pipe, and the angle of inclination can be adjusted for determining the length of the finished hole.

  • Patent number: 5795110
Abstract: A depth stop is provided that is selectively attachable to a cutting tool at an operator-selected location. The end of the depth stop that comes into contact with a work piece during operation is covered with a rotating cap. The cap prevents the work piece from being marred because the cap stops rotating when it comes into contact with the work piece while the cutting tool and the rest of the depth stop continue to rotate. The cap is rotatably mounted on the depth stop by a flange that engages a groove formed in the depth stop. An annular ring is provided between the cap and the end of the depth stop body to facilitate the rotatability of the cap with respect to the body.

  • Patent number: 5765654
Abstract: A device, for collecting drilled material and dust produced by a drilling tool, has a flange part (1) with a central axis to be secured to a housing of the drilling tool, and an axially extending container (2) for receiving the drilled material and dust and connected to and extending axially outwardly from the flange part (1) and being compressible in its axial direction towards the flange part. • Patent number: 5628592
Abstract: A drilling mechanism for drilling one or more holes in a workpiece includes a collet for securing the drilling mechanism to a hole formed in a fixture mounted in front of the workpiece. The collet is slidable rearwardly along a tapered nosepiece to be elastically expanded outwardly into tight frictional contact with the fixture hole. The collet comprises a clamping part and a separate displacement part connected thereto. A contact interface is formed by the clamping and displacement parts for transmitting rearward forces from the displacement part to the clamping part. The contact interface extends for 360 degrees about the center axis of the collet. Longitudinal play is provided between the displacement and clamping parts so that when the collet is to be moved forwardly and released from the fixture, the displacement part is initially moved longitudinally relative to the clamping part to apply a radially inward force to the clamping part for disengaging the clamping part from the fixture hole.

The guide has also drill fixing means onto its drill holding means to instantly, firmly and independently hold the guide onto the drill during operation.

  • Patent number: 4111588
Abstract: An apparatus for drilling pipes or containers under pressure employing a drill support device attachable to a surface of the pipe or container and having peripheral sealing means between said device and said container. A seal across an aperture in said device has sectoral leaves normally closed by the pressure to seal the aperture but able to be opened inwards to pass a drill.

  • Patent number: 4082474
Abstract: An attachment for motor powered drills for accurately positioning drill bits when holes of regulable depth and angle are to be drilled in a work piece. An open-centered base for contact with the work piece provides journal supports for paired rotatable trunnions that may reciprocally receive guide rods disposed above the base and at right angles to said trunnions. Paired guide sleeves of a frame attached to the drill motor and disposed parallel to the axis of the drill reciprocally receive the guide rods, and the drill and its bit are, accordingly, movable along the guide rods to cut a desired hole in the work piece. Index means and detents facilitate varied angular positionings for said trunnions and guide rods whereby holes that are angularly disposed with respect to the work piece may be drilled. The guide rods may be extended through the base to provide accurate centering of drilled holes, and a separate jig or vise is provided that holds the drill attachment and drill, etc. in adjusted lateral positions.

  • Patent number: 4080092
Abstract: Drill guide apparatus designed for use with a portable electric, air, or hydraulic drill includes a base adapted to rest on a support. The base is provided with a handle for portability. A standard is mounted on the base through a pivotable mounting connection. A slide and guide mounting means mounts the drill on the standard. Stop means on the standard determine the depth of the drilled hole.

  • Patent number: 4037982
Abstract: A drilling or milling machine has a suction chamber surrounding an axially moveable tool, the chamber being axially moveable relative to the tool and spring biased for abutment against a working surface during machining, after the tool has been fed forwardly in a rapid first phase, then slowly just prior to and during machining. The chamber is composed of two half-shells secured onto a mount on the tool body by a locking ring, and which can be separated by removal of the ring and radial outward movement to provide access to the tool without a need to raise the tool body. The abutment-surface of the chamber may be rigid for laterally-stationary tools, or formed of a ring of flexible bristles for laterally moving tools, e.g. for routing printed circuits. Several compressed-fluid delivery nozzles can be provided in the suction chamber to improve the removal of dust and chippings.

  • Patent number: 3979165
Abstract: A drill guide intended as an accessory to a portable hand-held drill may be integrally or removably attached. The removable version is a separate unit, transferable from drill to drill. A drill guide foot contacts the stock to be drilled at an adjustable angle, while adjustable locknuts mounted on a spring-biased threaded rod accurately set the depth of the holes to be drilled.
