  • Patent number: 4677726
Abstract: An elongated carriage extends between the beds of first and second milling machines to operatively join the first and second milling machines to one another. The carriage is attached to the milling machines in a manner which allows longitudinal movement of the carriage with respect to the milling machines to allow the milling machines to simultaneously mill first and second workpieces respectively.

  • Patent number: 4614469
Abstract: A multiple collet work-piece holder having a block with a plurality of openings and a collet retainer disposed within the openings. The retainer has pistons which are subjected to hydraulic pressure for moving the collet to a clamping position. The opposite ends of the collet are completely free from any obstructions, so the work-piece can be inserted from either end, and the collet is securely held against rotation so that the work-piece can be machined as desired. Also, an automatic release of the collet is provided, so that the work-piece can be released when fluid pressure is relieved.

  • Patent number: 4597145
Abstract: A tapping machine of the type in which the workpiece is automatically positioned, has a releasable connection of the worktable and carriage with the means for horizontally moving the worktable and the means for horizontally moving the carriage, so that the worktable and carriage may be released for manual operation. The tapping machine also has a means for detecting the position of the carriage and a means for detecting excessive thrust from the workpiece. In addition, the tapping machine may be provided with means for detecting the position of the worktable and a control device having a memory connected with the means for positioning the worktable so that when the worktable is manually positioned, the manual position may be entered and recorded in the memory of the control device. The tapping machine may thus be programmed so that multi-variety, small volume tapping is efficiently performed.

  • Patent number: 4585217
Abstract: Four square tooling plates each have an outer surface on which a plurality of workpieces are attached. The inner face of each tooling plate is precisely attached to a respective vertical surface of a rectangular block by means of a dowel extending into geometrically centered holes in the vertical face of the block and the tooling plate. Precise rotational alignment of the tooling plate with the block is achieved by a peg extending from the vertical face of the block into a timing hole in the tooling plate spaced from the center hole thereof. The block, with workpiece-loaded tooling plates thereon, is lowered onto a rotary table so that a geometric axis of the block is perfectly aligned with the rotational axis of the rotary table. Rotational alignment of the block with the rotary table is achieved by mating of keys extending from the bottom of a base plate of the block into keyways in the surface of the rotary table.

  • Patent number: 4518288
Abstract: A block of machinable wax (B) is anchored to a fastening plate (A) with a layer of adhesive (20) in one embodiment and with wax machine screws (30, 32, 34) in another embodiment. The fastening plate and machinable wax block are adapted to be used in machine tools, such as numerical controlled apparatus for producing patterns and prototypes. The block of wax has a composition which includes 5 to 15 percent by volume paraffin wax with a melting point of 150.degree. F. to 152.degree. F.; 5 to 15 percent by volume microcrystalline wax having a melting point of substantially 190.degree. F. to 192.degree. F.; 5 to 10 percent by volume ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer having a melting point of substantially 210.degree. F.; 25-35 percent by volume nonemulsifiable polyethylene wax having a melting point of substantially 240.degree. F.; 40 to 50 percent by volume nonemulsifiable polyethylene wax having a melting point of substantially 220.degree. F.

  • Patent number: 4484387
Abstract: A machine tool base and carriage system in which the base provides intersecting, vertical walls at its side margins each carrying and forming a rail having a head and toe pair defining bearing surfaces for carrying a respective workpiece or tool holding carriage slidably supported thereon for movement towards and away from the plane of the other wall respectively and in a horizontal plane. The base thus forms a single unitary triangular structure of horizontal operating arrangement, which may be integrally formed, and which presents the shortest possible bending moments for forces incurred during machining operations a kinematic mounting of the carriage to the base.

  • Patent number: 4449870
Abstract: An adjustable T-slot cover for covering T-slots in such as a table of a machine tool and consisting of two intermeshing elongated section members. Each section member has in the crosssection a vertically extending web extending along the side wall of T-slots and which web has on the upper end a projection for engaging with chamfered upper edge of the side wall and on the lower portion a guide for resiliently abutting with the side wall. One section member has sidewisely extending first and second arms, and the other section member has a third arm extending between the first and second arms. Intermeshing indentations are formed between the second and third arms.

  • Patent number: 4440050
Abstract: Drive mechanism for a feed screw or threaded spindle for tool machines. The threaded spindle is drivable both by a drive motor and also by a handwheel which can be coupled by an axial shifting movement of a control rod. The drive connection between the drive motor and the threaded spindle is released through an axial movement of the handwheel, so that the output shaft on the motor on the one hand is not moved in response to a rotational movement of the handwheel and, on the other hand, cannot drive the threaded spindle in the case of an unintended start.

  • Patent number: 4272216
Abstract: The control valve for a hydrostatic bearing on a machine tool slide is opened when motion is commanded along the corresponding machine tool axis to eliminate sticking at the start of motion. The valve is closed when the velocity of motion exceeds a predetermined level and is opened again when the velocity drops below the predetermined value to eliminate sticking at the end of motion. The valve is closed again when the machine tool slide arrives at its commanded position.
