Abstract: Pumps are disclosed that include a pump housing and at least one movable pumping element situated in the housing. The pumping element(s) are magnetically driven by magnetically coupling an external magnet driver (e.g., a stator) to a driven magnet located in the housing. A control circuit selectively operates the stator and a heat-producing element, so as to energize the heat-producing element especially in a potential freezing condition when the pump is not being otherwise operated. Thus, the fluid in the pump is prevented from freezing, and freeze-related pump damage is avoided. The heat-producing element can be the stator itself energized differently from when the stator is used for driving the pump.

The bottom surface is shaped with a flat outer part and an upwardly and inwardly curved inner part converging to the mouth. The surface is shaped and spaced from the flat surface with annular areas defined therebetween so that the liquid enters the peripheral edge slowly and accelerates up to an inner edge of the flat portion and then remains at constant velocity from the inner edge of the flat portion through the mouth and the pipe to the intake of the pump.

  • Publication number: 20120195771
Abstract: The present invention addresses the need for a water pump that may be constructed from inexpensive materials available even in impoverished areas. The pump uses a simple rocking motion to pump water and can pump significant amounts of water from sources that otherwise could not be reached. In a preferred embodiment, the pump comprises three concrete chambers, a pumping platform adapted to rock in a see-saw fashion, and a plurality of valves to control the flow of water. The first two chambers contain diaphragms that, as a result of rocking the pumping platform, draw liquid into the chambers and force liquid from those chambers into the third chamber. Two valves selectively permit liquid to be drawn into the first and second chambers, and prevent the liquid from exiting the chambers and returning to the source. Third and fourth valves allow liquid to flow from the first and second chambers into the third chamber, and prevent the liquid in the third chamber from flowing back into the first or second chambers.

  • Patent number: 8215922
Abstract: An invention is claimed that enables the pumping of compressible fluids at high pressures when an accurate flow is desired. Two pressure sources, for example pumps plumbed in series, separate thermodynamic work, such as pressurization, at the first pressure source from a volumetric or matter metering function in the second pressure source. One example is a flowstream delivery for a chemical instrumentation system that is manufactured from relatively unsophisticated pumps yet delivers precise flows with low pulsation (<1%) over pressures greater than 100 bar. An advantage of one embodiment allows the economical conversion of typical HPLC systems to state of-the-art supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) systems with minimal modification to system components.
