Abstract: A viscous seal for fluid transfer devices that deviates from the conventional wisdom of avoiding contact between the seal and a rotating drive shaft of the fluid transfer device. Instead of avoiding contact, contact between the seal and drive shaft is used to effect axial alignment of a sealing sleeve with the shaft. As a result, the viscous seal is compliant in that the sealing sleeve can follow the axis of the drive shaft. Accordingly, the sealing sleeve can fit snugly around the drive shaft for more effective prevention of leakage of low or any viscosity fluid along the drive shaft, but without any significant radial load being applied to the sealing sleeve that might cause undue wear or damage due to galling.

Abstract: An object of the invention is to minimize energy loss to be generated at a driving shaft and a shaft seal device, when an electric rotating device is driven by an expansion-and-compressor device. According to a feature of the invention, a first driving shaft is rotationally supported by a housing and transmits a driving force from an engine to a second shaft of the expansion-and-compressor device, wherein a shaft seal device is provided on the first driving shaft for air-tightly sealing the inside of the housing from the outside of the housing. A power transmission control device (electromagnetic clutch or one way clutch) is operatively provided in a path between the first driving shaft and the second shaft, so that power transmission from the second shaft to the first driving shaft is cut off, to suppress any energy loss to be generated between the first driving shaft and the shaft seal device.

The boom arm carries molded and fabricated composite boom pipe sections. Each pipe section is formed from a composite material having a reinforcing outer layer and a wear resistant inner layer. Preferably, the outer layer is formed using a filament winding process while the inner layer is molded of wear resistant urethane. Each boom section is formed by centrifugal molding a urethane tube then secondarily winding carbon fiber onto the exterior of the tube. The centrifugal force created by the rotating mold provides a bubble free urethane tube. The filament winding provides the hoop strength needed to withstand the internal pressures of the concrete pumping process.

Abstract: In a fuel injection pump, a casing fixed to a housing has a pump room and a filter room mostly separated from but partly communicating with the pump room. A feed pump is constituted by the pump room where a feed pump mechanism is connected to an axial end of the drive shaft. A filter element is accommodated in the filter room. A casing cover easily attachable and detachable to the casing has a fuel inlet port through which fuel is sucked to the filter room and, then, flows via the filter element into the pump room where the fuel is pressurized according to rotation of the drive shaft. Accordingly, foreign material contained in fuel is eliminated before entering the pump room. Further, fuel flow area of the fuel element is larger than that of the fuel inlet port, resulting in less pressure loss of fuel passing through the filter element even if mesh size of filter element is smaller.

Abstract: A reversible pivoting vane rotary compressor includes a housing having a generally cylindrical chamber defined by an inner wall. A rotor is mounted eccentrically within the chamber to define about the rotor a generally crescent shaped compression chamber, which narrows from a main chamber region to a constricted chamber region, which rotor has a circumferential surface. A pair of reversible intake and exhaust ports are connected communicably with the constricted chamber region. Each port selectively and alternately introduces air into the constricted chamber region while the other port exhausts air from the constricted region. At least one adjoining pair of curved vanes are pivotably attached to the rotor and extend in generally opposite arcuate directions from the rotor into the chamber.
