Abstract: Non-conductive films for constructing lighter than air balloons are provided. A non-conductive film may comprise multiple layers of gas barrier polymers. An outer surface printable layer and an interior heat or ultrasonically sealable layer may also be included. Each gas barrier film may comprise multiple (e.g., from 3 to approximately 75) barrier layers. A gas barrier core has a nano-layer structure. A gas barrier core may also comprise a biodegradable film or a bio-based film. A non-conductive film may comprise a metal layer for enhancing gas barrier properties. The metal layer may be discontinuous. The metal layer may be conductive and coated with an insulating top coat.

Abstract: A label for removable application to an article such as a beverage bottle includes a backing layer (2) comprising a laminate of a bi-axially oriented polyester such as PET (12) and a bi-axially oriented polypropylene (14). The polyester film (12) has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than the polypropylene film (14). Consequently, when the label is heated, it will tend to curl and this effect can be used to assist in the removal of the label from the article in a hot washing bath during recycling of the article.
Abstract: A recording material for electrophotographic printing methods from a base paper coated on both sides with synthetic resin and having a toner-receiving layer arranged on at least one side, containing a water-soluble or water-dispersible binder in the toner-receiving layer, preferably an ethylene-acrylate polymer or an ethylene-acrylate copolymer, a finely particulate inorganic pigment and an antistatic component, such that images using both liquid toners and dry toners can be produced with this recording material, identical in both appearance and haptics to silver halide photographs.

Abstract: The present invention provides surface treated articles comprising a recoatable surface treatment of an acrylic or vinyl polymer that does not change the appearance of the treated surface, and which imparts blocking resistance and/or stain and dirt pickup resistance to the treated surface. The one or more acrylic or vinyl polymer has a number average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 100,000, a glass transition temperature of ?10° C. or higher, preferably, 30° C. or higher, and comprises the polymerization product of one or more non-ionic monomer, such as methyl methacrylate, with up to 47 wt. % of an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer and, preferably, is non-migrating under use conditions. The barrier layer is formed by depositing onto the base layer a coating composition of finely divided insoluble organic polymer particles suspended in an aqueous solution of the water soluble organic polymer, a crosslinking agent and surfactant. The coating composition is heated to crosslink the barrier layer polymers and evaporate solvent to provide a barrier film suitable for packaging applications. Optionally, the film can be metalized to increase barrier properties.
Abstract: Calcium carbonate particles having very narrow particle sizes with a controlled D98 and minimal ultrafines (very small particles) are described. The particles are prepared by grinding a feedstock in a centrifugal grinding mill, which utilizes very high centrifugal forces to impact the particles with each other or grinding media.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for electrostatic printing, wherein the method comprises (a) providing an ink composition comprising particles comprising a resin, wherein the ink composition contains less than 0.3 mg of charge director per g of solids in the ink composition; (b) passing the ink composition between a first electrode and a developer roller, wherein sufficient potential is applied between the developer roller and the electrode such that the resin particles are charged and adhere to the developer roller; (c) transferring at least some of the particles from the developer roller to a photoimaging plate to form an image on the photoimaging plate; and (d) transferring the image from the photoimaging plate to a print medium. Also disclosed here is an apparatus for carrying out the method, and a print medium printed using the method.
Abstract: A film formed from a water-soluble polymer matrix containing a fragrance is provided. The film is water-sensitive so that upon contact with a sufficient amount of water, the matrix loses its integrity to increasingly expose the fragrance to the ambient environment for releasing its odor. The ability to incorporate a fragrance into the matrix is achieved by controlling the nature of the fragrance and polymer, the manner in which the matrix and fragrance are melt processed, etc. For example, the fragrance may be injected directly into the extruder and melt blended with the polymer to avoid the costly, time-consuming steps of pre-encapsulation or pre-compounding of the fragrance into a masterbatch. Furthermore, to balance the fragrance's ability to release the desired odor during use while minimizing the premature exhaustion of the odor during processing, the fragrance has a boiling point (at atmospheric pressure) of from about 125° C. to about 350° C.

Abstract: The present invention provides a resin composition for extrusion coating, the composition including (1) at least one of a copolymer of ethylene and ?,?-unsaturated carboxylic acid or an ionomer thereof and (2) a homopolypropylene, wherein a content of the component (2) is 3 to 12% by mass based on the total mass of the component (1) and the component (2) and has a melt flow rate (at a load of 2160 g and 190° C., JIS K7210) of 4.0 g/10 min. or more.
Abstract: Disclosed is a vulcanized rubber laminate, wherein a thermoplastic resin layer and an unvulcanized epichlorohydrin rubber composition layer containing a specific maleimide compound, vulcanizing agent, and acid acceptor are heated and bonded. Abstract: The invention relates to A process for the polymerization of ethylene to produce a polyethylene resin in at least two slurry loop reactors connected to each other in series, the resin having a bimodal molecular weight distribution, a molecular weight distribution MWD of at least 7.0, an HLMI of from 1 to 100 g/10 min, and a density of from 0.935 to 0.960 g/cm3, wherein in one reactor 30 to 47 wt % based on the total weight of the polyethylene resin of a high molecular weight (HMW) polyethylene fraction is produced having an HL275 of from 0.05 to 1.8 g/10 min (the equivalent of HLMI of from 0.01 to 1.56 g/10 min), a density of from 0.925 to 0.942 g/cm3 and an MWD of at least 5.0, and in the other reactor a low molecular weight (LMW) polyethylene fraction is produced having an HLMI of from 10 to 1500 g/10 min and a density of from 0.960 to 0.975 g/cm3, in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system.

Abstract: New polymeric dielectric materials are provided for high power capacitors, especially for mobile and weapons applications. These materials utilize aminoplast crosslinking in their polymeric structure. The aminoplast crosslinking ability of these materials allows them to be customized for a number of applications, but also allows the materials to have a higher crosslinking density, leading to higher dielectric constants, higher breakdown voltage, and higher thermal stability. These materials can be incorporated into current capacitor manufacturing schemes with little to no processing changes.
Abstract: A separator-attached pressure-sensitive adhesive layer of the present invention including a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on a separator, wherein the separator includes a base film and an oligomer prevention layer, and a release layer provided in this order on the base film, and the release layer has a surface resistance value of 1.0×1013?/? or more, and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is formed from a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition including a base polymer and an ionic compound and is provided on the release layer of the separator. The separator-attached pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is capable of inhibiting an oligomer contained in the base film used for the separator from migrating into the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer.
Abstract: In accordance with the present teachings, there are composite materials, fuser members comprising the composite materials, and methods of making the composite materials. In various embodiments, the composite material can include a polyimide resin having a thermal conductivity and a plurality of passivated aluminum nitride particles substantially uniformly dispersed in the polyimide resin to provide the composite material with a thermal conductivity of about 0.4 W/mK to about 2.5 W/mK, and wherein each of the plurality of passivated aluminum nitride particles can include a passivation layer disposed over an aluminum nitride particle core to inhibit oxidation and thermal degradation of a surface of the aluminum nitride particle core.

The disclosed articles comprise the terpolymer blends adhered to a release liner. The disclosed implant devices comprise the pressure-sensitive adhesive blend adhered to a surface thereof. The pressure-sensitive adhesive blend can promote adhesion of the implant device to a location in a subject.
