Abstract: A method of forming a polyimide film on a surface of a substrate by dehydration condensation of a first monomer including a bifunctional acid anhydride and a second monomer including a bifunctional amine is disclosed. The method includes loading the substrate into a processing chamber, heating the substrate at a temperature at which a polyimide film is formed, and performing a cycle a predetermined number of times. The cycle comprises supplying a first processing gas containing the first monomer to the substrate, supplying a second processing gas containing the second monomer to the substrate. The method further includes supplying a replacement gas in the processing chamber between supplying the first processing gas and supplying the second processing gas thereby replacing atmosphere in the processing chamber by the replacement gas, and evacuating the first and/or the second processing gas out of the processing chamber.
Abstract: Various polymeric barrier compositions are described which when formed into films, are useful in reducing transmission of odors. The films can be incorporated into a wide range of products such as multilayer barrier films used in medical applications and particularly in ostomy appliances. In certain versions, the films include semi-crystalline cyclic olefin copolymers.

Abstract: Provided are ethylene-based polymer compositions, articles made therefrom, and methods of making the same. Ethylene-based polymer compositions include blends of a linear low density polyethylene prepared with metallocene catalyst and a low density polyethylene. The linear low density polyethylene may optionally have about five mole percent or less of monomer units derived from an alpha-olefin comonomer. Articles composed of such ethylene-based polymer compositions, such as blown films, exhibit favorable physical properties, including excellent optical properties and retained strength i.e., mitigation of expected decline in physical strength due to LDPE addition.

Abstract: Provided herein are multi-layered structures comprising coated substrates, and methods for producing the layered structures provided. Coatings according to the disclosure are provided in greatly reduced time frames as compared to coatings of the prior art. Coating structures as provided herein can be applied to a substrate such as a garage floor, a truck bed, railcar, seatainer, tractor-trailers and the like within a single day, and are sufficiently cured to withstand heavy traffic such as motorized vehicle traffic in as little as two hours after application of the polymer precursor layer material employed.
Abstract: A primer-less coating composition for facestock comprises: a binder being a water-dispersible polymer; an ethylenically unsaturated compound which is aqueous-dispersible and miscible with or bonded to said water-dispersible polymer, wherein said ethylenically unsaturated compound is able to form a covalent bond with an ink; and a crosslinker, wherein said crosslinker is suitable for binding the coating to the facestock. The coating composition may be applied to a substrate to form a printable film. A printed film in accordance with the invention may be used in a label, for example for use on a container such as a bottle.

In one aspect, the biodegradable nanocomposite includes a biodegradable polymer and a reinforcing agent substantially dispersed throughout the biodegradable polymer by rapid depressurization of a supercritical fluid. The biodegradable nanocomposite further includes a plurality of pores formed in the nanocomposite, the plurality of pores having an average pore size greater than about 100 ?m.

Abstract: A method is provided for producing a double-sided pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) sheet of a nonwoven fabric substrate, whereby the inherent performance of the PSA is more fully exploited using an aqueous dispersion-type PSA composition. This method comprises preparing an aqueous dispersion-type PSA composition and a nonwoven fabric substrate serving as a support. The method also comprises forming PSA layers which impregnate the substrate and which are obtained by drying the composition. Abstract: A self-assembled monolayer is formed on the surface of a molded article without roughening the surface of the molded article to thereby perform treatment for preventing a biochemical substance from being adsorbed, for example, on a microchip substrate, and imparting functionality of immobilizing a biofunctional molecule thereto. The surface of a cyclic olefin resin molded article, for example, a microchip substrate, is irradiated with vacuum ultraviolet light having a center wavelength of 172 nm from an excimer lamp to activate a portion serving as a flow channel in the substrate. Next, the molded is immersed in a tank filled, for example, with a fluorine compound solution, and a SAM film that is a self-assembled monolayer is formed on the surface activated by ultraviolet radiation.
Abstract: A transparent conductive electrode stack containing a work function adjusted zinc oxide is provided. Specifically, the transparent conductive electrode stack includes a layer of zinc oxide and a layer of a work function modifying material. The presence of the work function modifying material in the transparent conductive electrode stack shifts the work function of the layer of zinc oxide to a higher value for better hole injection into the OLED device as compared to a transparent conductive electrode that includes only a layer of zinc oxide and no work function modifying material.

Abstract: A blade rubber having both of superior durability and wiping performance can be manufactured by using a non-diene-based rubber without environmental burden. A pair of blade-rubber molded bodies molded from the non-diene-based rubber is subjected to an irradiation treatment to generate radical active sites, and monomers are bound by graft polymerization as beginning at the radical active sites. Also, the monomers are adhered on a surface of the blade rubber either before or after the generation of the radical active sites. The irradiation treatment and the graft polymerization may be simultaneously performed or independently performed in this order. In this manner, a surface treatment for reducing friction of the non-diene-based rubber having superior durability can be performed without halogen, and therefore, a blade rubber having superior durability and wiping performance can be manufactured.

Abstract: To provide a multilayer structure having high gas bather property and crack resistance as well as excellent fatigue resistance, an inner liner for a pneumatic tire using the multilayer structure, and a pneumatic tire comprising the inner liner. According to the present invention, the multilayer structure includes a barrier layer 2 made of polymer material with 50% or less elongation at break conforming to JIS K 7113 at 20° C. and 65% RH and an elastomer layer 3 made of polymer material with 100% or more elongation at break conforming to JIS K 7113 at 20° C. and 65% RH, wherein a plastic deformation amount at the time of 100% strain input is larger than a deformation amount at a tolerance point.
Abstract: An oriented multilayer structure for shrink applications having a polymeric layer, a tie layer adhered to said polymeric layer. The tie layer is made up of the reaction product of a live, grafted polyolefin and an olefin elastomer. The multilayer structure is oriented and the tie layer provides strong adhesion to barrier layers even at high orientation levels.
Abstract: The present invention provides medical devices that contain polyisobutylene urethane copolymers, polyisobutylene urea copolymers and polyisobutylene urethane/urea copolymers. More particularly, the present invention provides medical leads that contain such copolymer.

Abstract: Techniques, processes and structures are disclosed for providing markings on products, such as electronic devices. For example, the markings can be formed using physical vapor deposition (PVD) processes to deposit a layer of material. The markings or labels may be textual and/or graphic. The markings are deposited on a compliant layer that is disposed on a surface to be marked. The compliant layer is arranged to isolate the surface to be marked from the layer of material deposited using the PVD process.

Abstract: The present invention provides a flexographic printing original plate having no wrinkle on the plate surface and having no plate surface abnormality due to laser in spite of the fact that it is a flexible water-developable plate. A photosensitive flexographic printing original plate developable by water in which at least a supporting member, a photosensitive resin layer, a protective layer and a heat-sensitive mask layer are successively laminated, characterized in that, the protective layer contains (A) polyvinyl alcohol, (B) plasticizer and (C) water-dispersible latex in the following rate. Abstract: This invention relates to coating compositions that include water; a latex polymer and a silane coupling agent. The latex polymer preferably comprises acetoacetoxy functionality, or is a multistage latex, or is an acetoacetoxy functional multistage latex. The silane coupling agent is preferably a functionalized silane coupling agent (more preferably an epoxy-functional silane coupling agent). The compositions may be used to coat a variety of substrates, including wood, cement and fiber cement. Articles having the coating applied thereto are also provided.
