Publication number: 20020020053Abstract: This invention uses large surface to volume ratio materials for separation, release layer, and sacrificial material applications. The invention outlines the material concept, application designs, and fabrication methodologies. The invention is demonstrated using deposited column/void network materials as examples of large surface to volume ratio materials. In a number of the specific applications discussed, it is shown that it is advantageous to create structures on a laminate on a mother substrate and then, using the separation layer material approach, to separate this laminate from the mother substrate using the present separation scheme. It is also shown that the present materials have excellent release layer utility. In a number of applications it is also shown how the approach can be used to uniquely form cavities, channels, air-gaps, and related structures in or on various substrates.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2001Publication date: February 21, 2002Inventors: Stephen J. Patent number: 5879505Abstract: In a separator for separating a stripping sheet from a composite film formed by a base sheet and the stripping sheet which are superposed with each other, the composite film is first so carried and arranged that its forward end portion extends over a separating clearance formed in a support, and then a blade is pushed into the separating clearance for thrusting the composite film into the separating clearance in a bent state. Thus, the forward end portion of the composite film is separated (i.e., delaminated). Thereafter the base sheet and the stripping sheet are independently sucked/held on the delaminated forward end portion, and the stripping sheet is completely separated from the base sheet while widening the space between the held positions of these sheets. Due to the aforementioned structure and operation, the composite film can be separated in a simple structure with minimum force, and the separator can be reduced in size and power.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1997Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignee: Dainippon Screen Mfg. Patent number: 5792588Abstract: This invention relates to negative working color proofing sheet constructions which, upon exposure to an actinic radiation source through a screened image, can accurately reproduce said image. The construction is useful as a color proofing film which can be employed to accurately predict the image quality from a lithographic printing process. The image is produced by forming a composite of a receiver sheet, an adhesive layer, a color layer and cover sheet. Upon imagewise exposure, a negative image appears on the receiver base after dry peel apart development.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1996Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: Bayer CorporationInventors: Wojciech A. Wilczak, Stephan J. W. Platzer, David L. Siegfried

Patent number: 5780203Abstract: A process for forming a colored partial picture element comprises a step of forming a colored light-sensitive resin composition layer on a transparent substrate by transfer so as to cover at least a part of multicolor patterns formed by picture elements each having one of the three primary colors of light which are provided on the transparent substrate, a step of irradiating the colored light-sensitive resin composition layer with an active ray through the transparent substrate to cure it, and a step of developing the above colored light-sensitive resin composition layer to form a colored partial picture element at a part where at least a part of the above multi-color patterns is not present, wherein the picture element of at least one color of the picture elements having the three primary colors of light contains at least one compound selected from the compounds represented by the following formulas (I) to (III) ##STR1## wherein variables in formulas (I)-(III) are defined in the specification.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1995Date of Patent: July 14, 1998Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Morimasa Sato, Masayuki Iwasaki, Takekatsu Sugiyama

Patent number: 5776643Abstract: A light-sensitive material for a color filter is described, which comprises a support having provided thereon a peeling layer and further provided thereon at least three silver halide emulsion layers which are different in color sensitivity. A process for producing a color filter is also described, which comprises the steps of adhering an emulsion side of the light-sensitive material to a light-transmitting substrate, peeling the support off the light-sensitive material, pattern-exposing the emulsion side, and subjecting the material to development processing and desilvering processing.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1997Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hiroyuki Hirai

Patent number: 5776655Abstract: A peel-developable lithographic printing plate is comprised of a substrate, a hydrophilic layer comprising a polymeric acid overlying the substrate, a radiation-sensitive image-forming layer overlying the hydrophilic layer and a stripping layer that is strippably adhered to the image-forming layer. The image-forming layer is comprised of a photo-polymerizable composition comprising a polymeric binder, a plurality of addition-polymerizable ethylenically-unsaturated compounds at least one of which possesses phosphorus-derived acidic functionality and a photopolymerization initiator. After imagewise exposure of the plate to activating radiation, the stripping layer is peeled from the image-forming layer with only the unexposed regions of the image-forming layer adhering thereto so as to reveal the underlying hydrophilic layer and thereby form a lithographic printing surface.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1996Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Paul Richard West, Jeffery Allen Gurney

Patent number: 5759742Abstract: A masking element is prepared with a photosensitive layer on a suitable support, overcoated with a masking layer containing an infrared absorbing compound and a thermally bleachable dye. The dye is bleached by imagewise laser irradiation, followed by floodwise exposure to produce an image in the photosensitive layer corresponding to the laser produced image. The outermost layers are removed and development provides a suitable negative-working printing plate.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1996Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Paul Richard West, Jeffery Allen Gurney
