Patent number: 4711838Abstract: Photographic elements which may be imaged by laser scanners emitting in the near infrared without the formation of interference fringes comprising a support bearing one or more layers of a silver halide emulsion having grains of an average diameter of no more than 0.4 micron, the element including one or more of:(i) a topcoat layer which is an outermost layer on the same side of the support as the photosensitive emulsion which topcoat layer is a diffuse transmitting layer with respect to near infrared radiation,(ii) a backing layer which is an outermost layer on the side of the support remote from the photosensitive emulsion which backing layer is a diffuse reflecting layer or absorbing layer with respect to near infrared radiation,(iii) a subbing layer which is positioned between the support and the photosensitive emulsion which subbing layer is a diffuse transmitting or absorbing layer with respect to near infrared radiation.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1985Date of Patent: December 8, 1987Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Nicholas E. Patent number: 4698292Abstract: A photopolymerizable recording material comprising a transparent support film, a thermoplastic photopolymerizable photoresist layer, and a flexible covering film on the exposed surface of the photoresist layer. The material is in the form of a roll. The end faces of the roll are covered with glued-on covering disks to prevent squeezing out of photopolymerizable substance.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1985Date of Patent: October 6, 1987Assignee: Hoechst AktiengesellschaftInventors: Manfred Hilger, Norbert Klein

Patent number: 4687726Abstract: Disclosed are a novel photosensitive recording material and a method for using the recording material in the production of planographic printing plates. The recording material comprises a support and a negative-working photosensitive layer that contains a diazonium salt polycondensation product as the photosensitive compound and, in addition, a colorless inorganic pigment which is insoluble in water and organic solvents and which has an average particle diameter from 1 to 20 .mu.m. The pigment is present in a quantity from 0.01 to 2% by weight, relative to the non-volatile constituents of the layer, and is evenly distributed in the layer. Due to the pigment content, a rough layer surface is formed, which has the effect of reducing the time required for creating a vacuum in a vacuum frame into which the recording material is mounted. The presence of the pigment in the layer also produces an improved tonal rendering in the print obtained.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1985Date of Patent: August 18, 1987Assignee: Hoechst AktiengesellschaftInventors: Gunter Schlogl, Gerhard Mack, Manfred Michel

Patent number: 4664996Abstract: A method for exposing a layer of photoresist on a sheet includes positioning the sheet in a vacuum printing frame comprising a glass plate carrying an opaque master pattern of metal or metal oxide. With the pattern opposite the coating, the frame is evacuated and the layer is exposed. The pattern has a substantially-uniform thickness in the range of about 0.5.+-.0.2 micrometer. To reduce the times for evacuating and devacuating the frame, the pattern side of the glass plate carries an array of light-transparent islands up to about 3.0-micrometer thick. An overcoating of wax on the islands is a further aid.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1985Date of Patent: May 12, 1987Assignee: RCA CorporationInventors: John J. Moscony, Thomas J. Michielutti, Charles M. Wetzel
