Abstract: A handheld grinder configured for use with an accessory tool that is removably coupled to the grinder, and the grinder includes a gear case, a spindle, and a fastener coupled to the spindle to apply a clamping force to the accessory tool. The grinder further includes a first race, a second race, a third race, a recess formed in the third race. A release member moves along the first race, the second race, and the third race. The release member moves along the third race and into the recess in response to the spindle being rotated about a longitudinal axis with respect to the gear case in a first direction, and the release member moves in a direction radially away from the longitudinal axis of the spindle when the release member moves into the recess thereby decreasing a vertical distance between the first race and the second race to decrease a clamping force.

  • Patent number: 7815494
Abstract: A sander comprises a body member molded of polypropylene to which a soft pad member is integrally molded or directly bonded thereto. Preferably, the material comprising the pad member is of a thermoplastic elastomer material, such as Santoprene®. Significantly, when the pad member is molded directly to the body member, the pad has internal dimensions only slightly larger than the external dimensions of the body member so that, when the body member is located within the confines of the pad member, a secure fit is formed between these two members, without any space between them. Further, the respective dimensions of the body member and pad member give the sander a thick, one-piece appearance in side and end views. The pad member may also include a plurality of openings which help provide a “spongy” effect to the user, smoothing the peaks and reaching the valleys of an uneven surface upon which the sander is utilized.

  • Publication number: 20100261414
Abstract: The sander for sanding particularly of the flat, concave and convex surfaces and the method of its usage is based on the fact, that the sanding tool (paper, linen or other carrier with sanding abrasive layer) is pressed onto the grinded surface by means of a flexible pressure plate able to copy the concave and convex surfaces with the possibility to set accurately the radius of this curve. The principle of the technical solution of the invention of the flexible pressure plate consists in the fact, that the pressure generated during the work onto the body, handle, or handles of the sander with mechanical drive is transferred onto this pressure plate at least at two points simultaneously or over at least one balance beam.
