Work Reciprocating Patents (Class 451/377)
  • Patent number: 9039493
Abstract: A blade sharpening system using the interior surface of a grinding wheel against which a blade is drawn along its entire length for sharpening. The sharpening system includes a blade holding configuration having multiple hinged arms. A cam operating between two of the hinged arms serves to alter the angle of incidence between the blade and the grinding wheel as the blade is drawn across the grinding wheel. The result is that a wide variety of different blade configurations can be easily accommodated by the sharpening system.

  • Patent number: 6475074
Abstract: A sharpening attachment for sharpening cutting implements with a rotating bit of a tool. The sharpening attachment includes a guide, a mount and a clamp. The guide is adapted for attachment to a rotary tool. The mount is connected to the guide, such that the mount is laterally movable along the guide. The clamp clamps the cutting implement to the mount. Movement of the mount along the guide brings the cutting implement into contact with the rotating bit.

  • Patent number: 5938511
Abstract: A grinding guide assembly for grinding or sharpening the carbide surface of a snowmobile wear bar. The grinding guide assembly features a pair of angle adjusters and a support guide that slide together back and forth across a pair of substantially parallel rods. The angle at which the wear bar contacts the grinding surface may be selected while the wear bar is securely clamped to the support guide. The length of the rods may be any desired length to allow the grinding guide assembly the capability to grind or sharpen an object of any length.

  • Patent number: 5810646
Abstract: Means for producing reciprocatory movement of a vice carrier (18) across a guideway (17) mounted on a body moulding (11, 16), which partly shrouds a rotatably driven grinding wheel (14), comprise a rack moulding (57) having upper and lower racks (61, 62) which are alternately engaged by a pinion (44) driven from the grinding wheel drive, in use. Rack moulding movement is transmitted to the vice carrier and spring means (67, 68) move the rack moulding to change the pinion engagement from the lower rack to the upper rack and vice versa at the ends of the racks, thereby reversing the rack moulding movement. A guide peg (56) of the body moulding alternately engages in upper and lower slots (65a, 65b) of the rack moulding to maintain the pinion in engagement with its appropriate associated rack while it is between the ends thereof. The arrangement is intended for use as part of a releasable adapter for a powered grinding tool incorporating said grinding wheel.

  • Patent number: 5527208
Abstract: A fixture for holding and aligning a blade of a hand tool during sharpening with a sharpening apparatus which includes a base member and a clamping plate. The base member includes a front side, rear side, a clamping surface, a bottom surface and a guiding means. The guiding means is selectively positioned along the bottom surface between the front side and rear side. The base member further includes an aligning means which projects above the clamping surface for positioning the blade at a predetermined angle with respect to an axis of the guiding means. The clamping plate is removably attached to the base member by a pair of clamping means. The guiding means is configured for easy removal and seating in an elongated mating recess in a support plate attached to the sharpening apparatus. The guiding means allows fully guided pivotal and linear movement of the blade with respect to an abrasive surface of the sharpening apparatus.
