Abstract: The present disclosure involves various embodiments for finishing the internal wall of a capillary tube. A quantity of abrasive particles and a rod are placed in a capillary tube, wherein a portion of the abrasive particles is magnetic. A magnet is positioned near a side of the capillary tube, thereby attracting the abrasive particles toward an internal wall of the capillary tube. A relative rotation of the capillary tube is produced with respect to the magnet, thereby causing the abrasive particles to finish the internal wall of the capillary tube.

Abstract: A disc burnishing head includes an array of burnishing pads and a first and second side rail projecting from a bottom surface of a slider body. The side rails each have an inside surface facing the burnishing pads and an outside surface facing outward. The outside surface of at least the first side rail is serrated. The serrations define a plurality of teeth and notches on the outside surface of the first side rail for cutting, cleaning, and conditioning defects from the surface of a disc.

The grinding tool with a universal grinding head (1) uses all types of tool members (5) in one and the same grinding head (1). It is thus possible to change between tool members (5) with different shapes on the retainer part (9) by switching between different adapter strips (6).

Abstract: The invention pertains to a novel scraper assembly having a plurality of interchangeable scraper heads and handles and corresponding method for use. Abstract: A polishing pad has a polishing layer and a backing layer secured to the polishing layer. The polishing layer has a polishing surface, a first thickness, a first compressibility, and a hardness between about 40 to 80 Shore D. The backing layer has a second thickness and has a second compressibility greater than the first compressibility. Abstract: A polycrystalline diamond abrasive element, particularly a cutting element, comprises a table of polycrystalline diamond bonded to a substrate, particularly a cemented carbide substrate, along a non-planar interface. The polycrystalline diamond abrasive element is characterised by the nonplanar interface having a cruciform configuration, the polycrystalline diamond having a high wear-resistance, and the polycrystalline diamond having a region adjacent the working surface lean in catalysing material and a region rich in catalysing material. The polycrystalline diamond cutters have improved wear resistance, impact strength and cutter life than prior art cutters.

Abstract: A one-piece hand-held sharpening device for dental instruments. The device is a sharpening stone having a continuous abrasive surface, with a uniform overall thickness, and generally corresponding flat longitudinally rectangular top face and bottom face surfaces. One side surface contains at least two longitudinal radius grooves and the opposite side face has rounded edges where it abuts the top and bottom surfaces. From either side view, it presents as an isosceles trapezoid with the top and bottom surfaces in parallel, both end surfaces with equal dimensions, and extending at equal angles from the end of the bottom surface to the end of the top surface. During sharpening, the upper end surface is aligned in parallel with a horizontal work surface. In other sharpening operations, each of the radius grooves allows proper sharpening of a different sized curette toe and the rounded edges permit sharpening of instruments with concave surfaces.

Abstract: An abrasive article with an abrasive element fabricated on a flexible foil suspended by a hydrostatic preloader, a gimball mechanism or a soft pad capable of selectively engaging with substrate to remove material while monitoring the contact pressure. A hydrostatic pressure bed is applied to the non-abrasive surface of the tensioned flexible foil to provide a contact pressure to the abrasive surface against the substrate. A series of fluid bearing surfaces are fabricated or imparted onto the abrasive side of the flexible foil to cause controlled interference and pressure with the substrate. A hydrostatic pressure emanating from the preloader supports the non-abrasive side of the flexible foil under tension while the abrasive side of the flexible foil engages a substrate.

Abstract: The present invention describes a microfabricated or nanofabricated structured diamond abrasive with a high surface density array of geometrical protrusions of pyramidal, truncated pyramidal or other shape, of designed shapes, sizes and placements, which provides for improved conditioning of CMP polishing pads, or other abrasive roles. Three methods of fabricating the structured diamond abrasive are described: molding of diamond into an array of grooves of various shapes and sizes etched into Si or another substrate material, with subsequent transferal onto another substrate and removal of the Si; etching of an array of geometrical protrusions into a thick diamond layer, and depositing a thick diamond layer over a substrate pre-patterned (or pre-structured) with an array of geometrical protrusions of designed sizes, shapes and placements on the surface.

Abstract: A method of making an abrasive article including the step of preparing a master plate with a surface having a shape. Depositing a spacer layer on the surface of the master plate. A slurry containing an adhesive and abrasive particles is deposited on a surface of the spacer layer. A substrate embedded with abrasive particles having a surface generally complementary to the surface of the master plate is fabricated. A spacer layer is formed by various method controlled the height of the protruded abrasive particles. The master plate and the spacer layer are separated from the substrate to expose abrasive particle protruding a substantially uniform height. An abrasive article made according to this method is also disclosed.

Abstract: A polishing pad includes a polymer matrix and polyhedral oligomeric silsequioxane (“POSS”) molecules or soluble particles and a surfactant dispersed within the polymer matrix. Abstract: A hand-held tool for resurfacing wiper blades which may be utilized with the wiper blade still installed on a vehicle. The tool includes a case having a rectangular cross section. Enclosed within the case are two resurfacing stones: a first resurfacing stone having a rougher surface and a second polishing stone for applying a final finish to the wiper blade. Abstract: A method and apparatus for ‘through-the-pad’ delivery of slurry polishing agents directly to the land areas of a polishing pad is disclosed. The present invention further provides for improved control of the chemical composition of the slurry to address loss of chemical reactivity of the slurry during the polishing cycle. Additionally, various groove modifications to the polishing surface of the pad are also disclosed for improved slurry retention over substantially the entire surface of the polishing pad and reduction of the slow band effect.
