Channel Allocation Patents (Class 455/509)
  • Patent number: 8107968
Abstract: A system for managing the simultaneous operation of a plurality of radio modems in a single wireless communication device (WCD). The multiradio control may be integrated into the WCD as a subsystem responsible for scheduling wireless communications by temporarily enabling or disabling the plurality of radio modems within the device. The multiradio control system may comprise a multiradio controller (MRC) and a plurality dedicated radio interfaces. The radio interfaces are dedicated to quickly conveying delay sensitive information to and from the radio modems. The modems may further include control features that take information from the MRC as an input in determining the priority of messages to be sent out to a receiving device. Uplink and/or downlink operations might, for instance, be performed. Instruction that operation can commence prior to an assigned time period might, for example, be provided. Channel contention might, for instance, be initiated in response to the instruction.

Abstract: A narrowband communication system (100) includes a base station (102) and a plurality of subscriber units (104). The base station assigns one or more wideband channels to be measured to each subscriber unit (606). The subscriber units tune to their assigned wideband channels and perform narrowband measurements, then report the results to the base station (612). The base station then analyzes the measurement results (614) and selects available wideband channels to be divided into narrowband channels for use by the narrowband system.

In the device, a configuration number extraction unit (103) extracts a configuration number from a BCH received by a BCH reception unit (102). A control unit (104) determines the corresponding RACH format (the necessity of repetition, the CP length TCP, the second preamble length TPRE2, and the GT length TGT) according to the configuration number, notifies a repetition unit (109) of the result of the judgment of necessity of repetition, notifies the repetition unit (109) of the second preamble length TPRE2, notifies a CP addition unit (110) of the CP length TCP, and notifies a GT addition unit (112) of the GT length TGT. When the repetition unit (109) receives the notification of performing the repetition, it performs the repetition according to the second preamble length received from a TPRE2 determination section (154).

Abstract: A method for allocating resources in a multi-hop relay network includes establishing one or more relay links, single-hop access links, and multi-hop access links. The method also includes iteratively repeating the following steps until a single-hop data rate is approximately equal to a multi-hop data rate: allocating a first number of slots to the multi-hop access links; dividing the first number of slots among the multi-hop access links; allocating a second number of slots to the relay links; allocating a third number of slots to the single-hop access links; dividing the third number of slots among the single-hop access links; and comparing the single-hop data rate to the multi-hop data rate. The method also includes, upon the single-hop data rate being approximately equal to the multi-hop data rate, provisioning the first number of slots to each of the multi-hop access links, the second number of slots to each of the relay links, and the third number of slots to each of the single-hop access links.

Abstract: When the number of multiplexed connections of PSs to a CS is changed due to issuance of a connection request from other PS to the CS or the like, the CS selects a unique word pattern (new unique word) optimal for the new number of multiplexed connections, so as to request switching from an old unique word to a new unique word to each PS of the user who has established multiple access. When a response to the request for switching is received from the PS of each user, the CS transmits a synchronous burst signal including the new unique word to the PS, and the PS also returns the synchronous burst signal including the new unique word. Synchronization is thus established.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing UE-based network performance measurements utilizing a process of tracing a UE in a radio telecommunication network. An eNB may receive a trace activation message from a Mobility Management Entity, MME, or a Network Management Entity, wherein the trace activation message includes eNB-specific, and optionally MME-specific, selection conditions for selecting a UE for a trace session. The eNB selects a UE for tracing when the eNB-specific selection conditions are satisfied, and may send the MME-specific selection conditions to the MME for evaluation. When all selection conditions are satisfied, the eNB activates the trace session with the selected UE. Abstract: Methods and apparatus related to control channels in a wireless communications system are described. Different white space bands may be available at different locations. A wireless terminal monitors control information from multiple potentially available communications channels. Control time slots corresponding to some different channels are intentionally time offset from one another. Some embodiments implement predetermined control slot timing synchronized with respect to an external timing source. In other embodiments, a wireless terminal selects a control time slot on a new channel as a function of control slot timing on channels already in use. A wireless terminal selects one of a plurality of communications channels for use in communicating information and determines a position of a control time slot to be used on the selected communications channels. The wireless terminal uses the control time slot on the selected communications channel to transmit and receive control information.

Abstract: A data transmission method in an enhanced CELL_FACH state, a network system, and a corresponding device, wherein the method includes the following steps. A radio transceiver receives information indicating a capability category of a UE. The radio transceiver acquires the capability category of the UE according to the information indicating the capability category of the UE. The radio transceiver performs data transmission to or from the UE according to the capability category of the UE. Since the information indicating the capability category of the UE is sent to the radio transceiver during the enhanced CELL_FACH data transmission, the radio transceiver performs the data transmission based on the capability category of a target UE, instead of the lowest capability category of the UE, thereby increasing the data transmission rate in the enhanced CELL_FACH state.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for determining the optimal bandwidth fractions for all the users in each frequency band in a wireless communication system to maximize the net sum of user utilities. User utilities are functions of average rates of users, where different averaging rules can be used for different users. The standard approach of computing an optimal scheduler strategy involves the solution of a convex optimization problem that has a complexity on the order of O(N3) for N flows. This approach is not feasible for online implementation having a large number of flows. The method of the present work employs an efficient computational algorithm that obtains the optimal bandwidth fractions in O(N) time. This feature makes the method suitable for implementation in wideband cellular systems like LTE (Long Term Evolution) and UMB (Ultra Mobile Broadband).
