Element Positioned Between Intermeshing Teeth On Driving And Driven Members Patents (Class 464/73)
  • Patent number: 4899608
Abstract: In a gear arrangement whose output shaft (5) is rotatably mounted in a gear box (6) and which corotates by means of a dog plate (3) via an axially interposed cushioning disk (2) with a gear (4) driven by a worm shaft (7) and, further, which output shaft is axially supported directly and/or indirectly, via the cushioning disk (2) and the gear (4), by the gear box (6), it is intended to provide, despite design related axial length tolerances, a tolerance play compensation in a manner which is considerably simplified from a production and assembly engineering viewpoint. Towards this end, the elastic cushioning disk (2) is provided with axially projecting spring lips (21 to 23), distributed over its circumference, for the development of a defined preloading pressure upon the components supported by the gear box (6).

  • Patent number: 4747796
Abstract: Several embodiments of coupling devices for marine outboard drives for providing a coupling between an engine output shaft and the outboard drive, drive shaft. Each embodiment employs as the coupling a first portion that provides a relatively resilient driving connection for absorbing low speed torque vibrations and a second more rigid driving connection for providing a more positive power transmission at high speeds and high loads. In some embodiments, the more resilient connection is provided by a spring which may comprise either a torsional spring or a torsional coil spring. In other embodiments, elastomeric elements provide the driving connection.

  • Patent number: 4678452
Abstract: A lubricant free low cost overload release clutch having a spring housing with an integral hub, a detector ring containing fixed detent bullets for engagement with springs in the housing on one side, and a bullet detent housing on the other side, together with spider cushion and shaft housing engaged for rotary turning with the bullet detent housing in response to the rotation of a shaft in the shaft housing. The release clutch responds to preset torque limits determined by spring tension. After a disengagement caused by excess torque, the clutch will reset by further rotation of the detent housing.

  • Patent number: 4627885
Abstract: There is disclosed a compression loaded torsional coupling device for use in drive shafts to provide a resilient interface between input and output portions of the shaft. Elastomeric cushions between fins extending in alternating fashion from opposed coupling members provide the resiliency. The coupling is produced by a unique process. Elastomer is first inserted into alternating gaps between adjacent fins. This elastomer is then compressed by applying a torque to rotate the coupling members with respect to each other. Elastomer is then placed in the remaining gaps. The torque is then released, permitting the compressive forces to redistribute in the elastomeric material around the circumference of the coupling.

  • Patent number: 4557703
Abstract: A coupling for joining a pair of shafts which are rotatably supported without a common axis in such a manner as to accommodate misalignment and provide torsional flexibility includes hubs on the ends of the two shafts, each of the hubs having axially extending cams with opposed surfaces that create openings for insertion of deformable members. A spider-like coupling element formed of a rubber-like material has a central base and legs which extend from the base into the openings to contact the opposed cam surfaces. The legs of the coupling element are circular or elliptical in cross section so that they contact the opposed cam surfaces essentially at lines when there is no load on the coupling and the legs deform in unconstrained compression to increase their area of contact with the opposed cam surfaces as the load increases, creating a nonlinearity in the relationship between the stiffness of the coupling and the applied torque.

  • Patent number: 4540382
Abstract: A coupling device (30) for connecting the armature (16) of an electric motor (10) to a piston (26) of a pump assembly (20) comprises an input member (32) which rotates and imparts the rotation to an output member (34), with a resilient member (36) disposed between the input member (32) and output member (36) to prevent the transmission of noise-generating vibrations between the electric motor (10) and pump assembly (20). The input and output members (32, 34) have respective axially extending projections (44, 46) circumferentially spaced-apart from each other and fingers (52) of the resilient member (36) extend radially into spacings between the projections (44, 46) in order to transmit rotation of the input member (32) to the output member (34) without permitting transmission of noisegenerating vibrations therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4472154
Abstract: A drive arrangement is disclosed which provides for the transfer of torque between two non-aligned shafts. The drive arrangement includes an intermediate shaft having outwardly projecting claws secured to each end thereof which are engageable in a positive driving manner with corresponding claws formed on the first and second shafts, respectively. A pair of resilient members are interposed between the claws at each end of the intermediate shaft which provide flexible couplings for facilitating the transfer of torque therebetween. Such a drive arrangement corrects for pure eccentricity between the parallel axes of the first and second shafts as well as correcting for any lack of parallelism between these axes.

  • Patent number: 4344306
Abstract: An overload clutch is described which includes a drive member and a driven member which are coaxial and have concentric cylindrical surfaces which form an annular chamber. One or more rollers of elastomeric material are positioned in the chamber with the rollers in rolling contact with the concentric cylindrical surfaces. Teeth project into the annular chamber from both surfaces and engage the rollers from diametrically opposite positions to transmit torque from the drive to the driven member. Excessive torque causes the rollers to compress between the two engaging teeth, the roller passing between the teeth and allowing the drive member to rotate relative to the driven member.
