  • Publication number: 20080293528
Abstract: In cycling activities, riders often encounter rough terrain having various obstacles such as rocks, mounds, tree roots, and branches. These obstacles subject the bicycle's crankset and chain to extremes in stress, loading, and impact. An improved bash guard may be attached to the bicycle to protect against damage. The bash guard may include at least one rotator operatively secured to a crankset or a crank arm on the bicycle. The rotator(s) may be configured to rotate independent of the crankset rotation. The independent rotation of the rotator(s) may permit the bash guard to roll over obstacles, significantly reducing frictional sliding or rubbing between an edge of the bash guard and the obstacles.

In this manner, the belt retention member allows more slack to be thrown during rapid acceleration from a decelerated state in the illustrated motorcycle.

Abstract: A work bench includes a frame, a bench surface on the frame with the bench surface including at least two members, one of which is movable along the frame for clamping a workpiece between the members. A mechanism for moving the member includes two screws coupled with the members. The two screws are spaced with the member for moving the member upon rotation of the screws. A sprocket is coupled with each of the screws. A transmission belt or chain is coupled with the sprockets. At least one handle is coupled with one of the screws to rotate the screws. At least one clutch is coupled with the at least one screw to limit clamping pressure on the workpiece. The clutch enables rotation of one screw with respect to the other screw so that workpieces may be clamped between the members and clamping of the workpiece may be accomplished by rotation of the screws with one hand of the operator. Also, a guard may be present which covers the transmission belt or chain.

  • Patent number: 6588110
Abstract: The invention relates to a guide bar for a motor-driven chain saw comprising an elongated planar base body which has a guide groove (8) in its outer periphery for guiding a saw chain (6). The saw chain (6) includes cutting links (14), lateral connecting links (12) and center drive links (10). The links are pivotally connected to each other with rivets (18). The drive links (10) engage with rakers (11) in the guide groove (8); whereas, the connecting links (12) are supported on guide surfaces (9) provided laterally of the guide groove (8). The guide bar (3) is fixed to the housing (2) of the motor-driven chain saw (1) at its attachment end (4) and the free tip (22) of the guide bar (3) has a direction-changing section (21) for the saw chain (6). In the region of the direction-changing section (21), guide plates (23, 43) are attached to the guide bar (3).

Abstract: A variable speed drive comprising two drives, an output drive wheel and an endless, extendible member that is driven by the drives and extends around and rotates the output drive wheel. The drives are operable to move the endless member around an endless path at a first speed at a first driving position and at a second speed at a second position. This causes local expansion or contraction of the endless member around the output drive wheel and so varies its speed.

  • Patent number: 6544134
Abstract: A belt type transmission improves the durability of a support portion of a driven shaft by reducing a load acting on a driven shaft, and improves the durability of the belt and reduces noise by suppressing vibration of a driven pulley. The belt type transmission includes a driven pulley having a fixed pulley piece and a movable pulley piece fitted to a driven shaft. The fixed pulley piece is rotatably supported, respectively, on the driven shaft and a bearing holder, being a constructional element of a transmission case. The bearing holder has a size overlapping only the driven pulley, and is coupled to a left case, which is a constructional element of the transmission case, in the vicinity of the driven pulley. As a result, the rigidity for supporting the fixed pulley piece on the driven side can be increased, thereby enabling suppression of vibration by the driven pulley.
