Abstract: An apparatus is arranged to successively make plastic bags. The apparatus comprises a trapezoidal plate including a short edge having opposite ends from which opposite oblique edges extend divergently. The trapezoidal plate comprises a double walled structure in which clearance means is formed between walls. The apparatus further comprises drive means by which the trapezoidal plate is moved in a direction of height of trapezoid so that the short edge can be engaged with the bottom gusset material. In addition, the apparatus comprises a pair of folding plates arranged to be engaged with the bottom gusset material and then inserted into the clearance means at positions corresponding to the oblique edges in accordance with the movement of the trapezoidal plate so that the bottom gusset material can be inserted into the clearance means by the folding plates to be folded into halves along the short edge and folded into the clearance means along the oblique edges.

Abstract: A tube-forming apparatus in a bag-forming, filling, and sealing machine has a longitudinal seam heat-sealing device for connecting edge regions of the packing material belt that are placed against each other inside surface to inside surface. In order to achieve a sufficient sealing temperature in a short time, a heating body that is embodied in a lamella-like fashion protrudes like a tongue between the edge regions. In order to aid the heating body, similar heating bodies rest against the outside of the edge regions. The heating bodies have a U-shaped electric resistance wire with elongated legs which is embedded in a longitudinally folded casing made of a thin, temperature-proof woven cloth.

Abstract: A storage bag with soaker pad, and a material and method for making same. The bag of the invention includes a bag having a front and rear panel of a plastic film, the front and rear panels being closed at one end to form a bottom of the bag, the bag being open at the opposite end for receipt of goods to be stored in the bag, a fluid absorbing pad located inside the bag, and an enclosure connected to the inside of the bag for containing the fluid absorbing pad. The material of the invention comprises a bag film connected to a perforated enclosure material with a plurality of soaker pads sandwiched between the two layers. The width of the perforated enclosure material is substantially less than the width of the bag film whereby the soaker pads are continued to a limited space near the center of the material that creates the bottom fold of the resulting bags formed from the material. The method of making the bag of the invention includes a continuous supply of bag film be fed forwardly towards a bag machine.

  • Patent number: 5961433
Abstract: Bags, primarily for liquid or other flowable products, are formed from sheet plastics material to define a generally rectangular container closed at one end and with a filling and discharging arrangement at the other end. The bags are formed from an outer sheet 10 and an inner sheet 11, the outer sheet extending the full length of the bag whereas the inner sheet extends only part way along the bag. The outer sheet defines pockets 15 which act as the corners of the rectangle and the inner sheet extends across the corners of the rectangle and is connected to the outer sheet adjacent the edges of the pockets. The bag is made by feeding the two sheets of material onto a table, the outer sheet 10 lying below the inner sheet 11. The outer sheet is drawn down to form the pockets 15 at spaced locations along the table. The inner sheet is then welded to the outer sheet at 18, 19 adjacent the edges of the pockets.

Abstract: A paper product, such as an advertising brochure, a cover or the like, is formed by using the novel method of the present invention. In the present method, a continuous moving web of paper is provided. The web is longitudinally slit at positions offset to one side of a longitudinal axis of the web, preferably a centerline axis, at spaced positions to form a plurality of longitudinal slits which are separated from each other by a continuous portion of the web. Thereafter, adhesive is deposited on the web at a position offset from the longitudinal slit, and preferably along a side margin of the web. A first portion of the web is folded over onto a second portion of the web along a fold line at a position between the longitudinal slit and the adhesive. Next, the first portion is secured to the second portion by the adhesive to form a secured section. The longitudinal slit is thereafter positioned between the secured section and the fold line.

Abstract: An apparatus for indexing a seal roll which is engagable by a heat seal head to prevent the contact area of said heat seal head from successive landing at the same location on the seal roll includes a driven pulley mounted coaxially with the seal roll and components for indexing to turn the driven pulley. The components include a rocker mounted on a common axis with a drive pulley via a one-way clutch and an actuator connected eccentrically to the rocker such that reciprocating motion of the actuator rotates the rocker in opposite directions. In one direction, the rocker rotates the drive pulley via the one-way clutch to index the roll via the drive belt and driven pulley. In an opposite direction, the clutch permits rotation of the rocker in the opposite direction free of rotation of the drive pulley. • Patent number: 5772565
Abstract: A seal assembly for packaging machines facilitates the heat sealing of layers of material at the mouth of loaded bags. An operator may insert the layers of material between a pressure pad and a seal member positioned in a spaced position. Upon activation of a switch by the operator, an oscillating signal is applied to a solenoid to actuate movement of the pressure pad toward the seal member with a relatively soft force. An optical sensor senses when the pressure pad moves within a predetermined distance from the seal member and generates a sensor signal. In response to the sensor signal, a relatively constant voltage signal is applied to the solenoid to actuate movement of the pressure pad with a relatively high seal or clamping force to secure the layers of material against the seal member. The sensor signal also triggers energization of a heating element carried by the seal member to effectuate the heat seal between the layers of material.
