Abstract: A fully enclosed carton for carrying heavy loads with a reinforcement insert for the handle apertures located in the top end flaps of the carton. The paperboard reinforcing insert may be extended as a bridge across the top panel of the carton to prevent tearing of the handle apertures in the top end flaps and also tearing in the top panel of the carton when carrying a heavy load. The carton may have one or more dispensers in the top panel which may extend into an adjoining side panel. Multiple tear lines may be formed for the dispenser flap in the insert that extends across the top panel to permit easy access to the containers, such as bottles, in the carton. The paperboard reinforcing insert may have a larger aperture than the handle aperture in each top end flap to adjust for any imprecision in the alignment of the paperboard insert in forming the carton sleeve from the paperboard blank.

Abstract: A shaker dispenser for containing and dispensing product includes a body, a handle, and a dispensing mechanism. The handle includes a base portion and a handle gripping portion that a user may grip to transport and use the dispenser. The handle is inserted within the body such that the entire handle, including the handle gripping portion, is within the body, thereby allowing the shaker dispenser to sit, if desired, on the end having the handle. The body includes indentations, or cut-aways, that allow the handle to be visible from at least one of: a front view, a side view, and a back view. A method of manufacture and use of a shaker dispenser is also described.

Abstract: A hanging display box with a carrying handle is made from a folding cardboard sheet. The cardboard sheet includes a display panel with a window, a substantially transparent plastic material covering the window and having flaps extending substantially beyond the display panel. A top wall attached to the display panel is connected to a hanger panel with an opening, and a bottom wall attached to the display panel is connected to a rear panel also having an opening, so that when the rear panel is folded adjacent the hanger panel, the openings align to form the carrying handle. Side walls attached to the display panel releasably fix the plastic material against the window such that, when the box is opened, the plastic material and cardboard are easily separated and recycled.

The hangers of the file folder may also be collapsible for use outside the office storage equipment. The hangers may also have a grip, or handle, for removal of the file folder from the office storage equipment.

A method of forming a container and a method of dispensing a container are also discussed.

Abstract: A consumer box having a lid with ventilating windows. The box can comprise a storage portion and a lid portion. The lid portion may include flaps that can be secured together to form the lid and windows. The subject invention allows the consumer to see the product being stored in the boxes through the windows and also to remove the box from a nested tray using the flaps. The flaps are also secured in such a way that the box, storing a product, may be carried using the flaps. In one embodiment, the boxes are designed to carry fresh produce, and the windows allow for the product to be ventilated so as to maintain the freshness of the produce.

One method comprises feeding first and second flexible webs in a feed direction, one web being fed each side of a substrate such that the webs are in mutual face-to-face disposition ahead of and behind the substrate with respect to the feed direction; joining the face-to-face webs at a first join ahead of the substrate and at a second join behind the substrate, the joins bounding web portions that together encircle the substrate between the joins; and dividing the joined web portions from the remainder of the webs such that the joined web portions together define a band that encircles the substrate, to be slid around the substrate in use of the package.

Abstract: An automatic handle attaching method for precisely securing a plastic handle on an edge of a preformed plastic bag is described. A delivery conveyor for conveying spaced-apart groups of flat plastic bags with each group having two or more bags disposed one on top of the other and offset along a leading straight edge thereof which is oriented approximately transverse to a conveying direction of a conveyor. A bag handling mechanism has an orientable bag engaging hand secured to an articulated arm to orient the bag engaging hand in alignment with a top one of the groups of bags to transfer the bag to a handle securing station where the bag handle is welded thereto. After the handle is welded its relationship with respect to other parts of the bag is verified.

The tape includes a succession of handles (n+i), each handle comprising two adhesive ends and a central part. The device includes a feeder to move the tape as far as a rotary application arm having a length which is equal to the nominal length L. This arm is able to deposit one adhesive end of the handle n on one face of the pack and then the second end of the handle n on a second face of the pack. The device further includes an optical cell for detecting an offset in the position of a handle n+i, an actuator for elongating the length of the rotary arm beyond the nominal length L, making it possible during a rotation of this arm to draw a portion of tape having a length greater than the nominal length, and a control unit.

A top rail extends around the top edge of the box structure, the top rail having an open channel formed between a pair of channel walls, with the channel positioned over the top edge. An aperture is formed in at least one of said side walls of the box structure. A handle is positioned to engage the aperture in the side wall to form a handle for the box structure. The handle includes a flange extending along the side wall proximate the top edge, and a portion of the flange is positioned within the open channel of the top rail. A protruding structure extends from the flange and is configured to engage the top rail and secure the handle in the top rail and box structure.

Abstract: A two-piece collapsible carrier for food and beverages. The lower carrier has a bottom and four side walls particularly adapted to carrier beverages in different sized containers. The side walls have uppermost edges higher than the tallest beverage containers to be normally carried. An upper food top having a bottom and side walls is carried over said lower carrier with the bottom of said upper tray resting on the uppermost edges of said lower carrier so that in normal use, the attitudes of the tray and beverage carrier remain the same.

Abstract: A novel food server and method of producing a food server is disclosed. The novel method includes moving a web of paper at a constant rate of speed, rotary perforating a plurality of lines on the moving web, using rotary timing belts to score at least two fold lines on the moving web, where the two fold lines define two glue flaps, rotary die-cutting the moving web to cut away portions of the paper adjacent the glue flaps, plow folding the moving web along the two fold lines defining the glue flaps, and applying glue to the moving web. After plow folding along the fold lines and applying the glue, the moving web is cross cut to form a blank having the glue flaps. Then, the blank is vacuum folded to cause portions of the blank to contact and adhere to the glue flaps, thereby forming the food server from the blank. The novel food server includes a first panel having two side flaps each defined by a score line, and a second panel having two side flaps each defined by a score line.

Abstract: A container, such as a cardboard carton, has a carrying handle secured by a fixing element at an attachment zone adjacent each end of the handle to opposite side walls of the container. The fixing elements each have a shaft portion transverse to the plane of respective attachment zones extending through the container wall, the shaft portion having a barb extending outwardly on the shaft and engaging with the container to retain the fixing element in position. The handle is attached to the container side wails by forcing the fixing elements through the side walls at the respective attachment zones.

Abstract: The process for manufacturing an integrally-formed handle for a bag includes the steps of turning an edge of a sheet of bag stock on itself a predetermined number of times to form a multiple-thickness handle on the sheet stock, while leaving an adjacent portion of the sheet stock unfolded. The opposed side edge portions of the handle are then folded onto and overlying the unfolded portion of the sheet stock. The folded side edge portions are then glued onto the unfolded portion of the sheet stock. The central portion of the handle is then severed from the unfolded portion of the sheet stock. The unfolded portion of the sheet stock is then folded and glued into a bag enclosure with the handle residing adjacent a side of the bag defining a top opening.

The arm rotates in time sequence with the belt.

Abstract: A machine for securing a thermoplastic coated paper handle to a paper cup having a seam on one side of the cup, the machine including a die assembly for forming paper handles having a backing strip and a wing on each side of the strip, a mandrel turret having a number of mandrels spaced about the perimeter of the turret, each of said mandrels having a blade assembly projecting outwardly from the surface of the mandrel to engage the seam in the cup, and a wheel assembly for rotating the cups on the mandrel to move the seam in the cup into engagement with the blade assembly, and a transfer turret for transferring the paper handles from the die assembly to the mandrel turret for attachment to the cups.

Abstract: Provided here is a novel construction for making and attaching wire handles to folded boxes from straight pieces of wire for both automatic pail box machines and vending cabinets. The mechanisms for making and attaching handles include: a container for containing wire blanks and feeding them only one piece per cycle, a bed die mechanism and reciprocated shuttle. The lead wire blank, which is fed from the container is placed on the receiver portion of the shuttle. At the same time from the bed die mechanism, a handle is pushed which has been made in the previous cycle. This handle is placed on the shipping portion of the shuttle. In its motion the shuttle attaches the made handle to the folded box and in cooperation with the bed die mechanism bends the lead wire blank to form a new handle. Thus, the process of each cycle includes fastening the made handle to the folded box and bending a new handle for fastening it in the next cycle.

The handle is next bent in two places so that the barb heads are perpendicular to an interior section of the handle and are projecting toward respective apertures in the carton blank. Then, the handle is moved such that the barb heads are inserted into the respective apertures.

Abstract: An automatic pail box machine is disclosed which makes folded boxes from pre-made blanks of paper and attached handles from a flexible strip of blank handles retained in a removable spool. The machine includes a conveyor and clinching mechanisms for utilizing both a flexible strip a strip of straight blank handles and with blank handles the ends of which are pre-bent. Feeding blank handles into position for fastening may be provided by a feeder having electrical solenoids which are energized in timed relationship. A simple anti-retraction device is provided to insure that the flexible strip does not retract.
