  • Patent number: 4704753
Abstract: A fitted sheet for covering a standard crib or bed mattress, the sheet being made of synthetic plastic material having an absorbent top layer laminated to a liquid-impermeable backing film whereby when a crib or bed occupant wets the sheet, the liquid is absorbed thereby, yet the underlying mattress is maintained in a dry, sanitary condition. The fitted sheet is created from a single rectangular blank whose sides are folded in on longitudinal fold lines and whose ends are folded in on transverse fold lines, the corners of the blank being folded in on diagonal fold lines to form triangular folds that are ultrasonically sealed to the folded-in ends, thereby defining a box-like fitted sheet having reinforced right angle corners and sides and ends coextensive with those of the mattress. Each end of the fitted sheet is creased to form puckers that are joined to an elastic strip to render the end stretchable whereby the fitted sheet conforms snugly to the mattress.

  • Patent number: 4671049
Abstract: Protective blanket for hoofed and domestic animals, in particular horses and dogs, to protect against the influences of cold in cold weather or due to evaporation of the skin moisture after physical exertion, and for thermal treatment of certain ailments, e.g. influenza or kidney trouble. Woolen or linen blankets have the disadvantage of not giving off the evaporation moisture and do not provide warmth when wet. The protective blanket according to this invention provides better heat protection and has a therapeutic effect due to the fact that it consists of two mutually movable layers of a knit fabric (6) made of nonhygroscopic synthetic fibers fit for generating static electricity and with a mesh of 50-125/cm.sup.2. For choice, the blanket contains a synthetic foam lining permeable to air between the two layers of fabric (6). The drawing shows the outside of a horse blanket with a neck rim (31) at the head end and a rear rim (32) with a loop (40) to accommodate the tail.

  • Patent number: 4644598
Abstract: In an infant-safe comforter fitted to the foot end of a crib mattress, the grasping power of the two boxed corners of the comforter on the corners of the mattress is controllably reduced by limiting the extent of an elasticized central segment of the free edge between the two corner seams in the foot end of the comforter. The terminal points of this elasticized central portion are spaced 11/2 inches inboard from each of the corner seams. The nudging head of an infant crawling under the comforter to the foot end raises the free edge above the bottom perimeter bead of the mattress to admit access of air under the comforter and releases the grasp at the corners to prevent asphyxiation under a comforter of low air permeability.

  • Patent number: 4614000
Abstract: A patient care undersheet includes a minimum number of support points in order to keep a bedridden patient from developing decubitus ulcers. The undersheet preferably comprises a bottom layer having a number of conically shaped bubble-like supports and a top layer comprising a non-woven fabric. An adhesive material connects the non-woven fabric to the bubble-like supports in such a manner that under pressure the bubble-like supports under pressure do not move with respect to each other. The bubble-like supports are air tight so that the undersheet does not collapse under the pressure of a patient's body. The area of contact of the top of the bubble-like supports to the non-woven fabric is approximately 40% of the total top surface of the undersheet. A patient only has to move a very small distance before a new area of skin is supported by the undersheet.

  • Patent number: 4274169
Abstract: A bed covering, which functions as a spread, comforter and top sheet, is formed by joining two identically dimensioned layers of fabric which are stitched together along three edges with a foot edge of the layers remaining unstitched. Each layer is generally the size of a spread which fits a particular size bed such as, for example, a single or double size bed. Side and foot edge portions of the layers extend to the floor from the top of the bed to provide a spread effect. Pockets are formed between a central portion of the two layers and are stuffed with a heat-insulating material such as, for example, down or polyester fibers. When the bed covering is placed on a bed, the unstitched edge portion of the bottom layer adjacent to the foot edge is tucked between the mattress and box springs of the bed to secure the bed covering with the bed. Since the tuckable portion is not stuffed, it does not lift the foot of the mattress and holds the bed covering securely.
