Patent number: 11612870Abstract: An industrially scalable microcapsule, fiber or film forming process and formulations suitable for use in conventional spray drying systems are provided. The one-step spray drying process utilizes formulations of a first ionic polymer, a second ionic polymer with an isoelectric point (pI2) or acid dissociation constant (pKa2) that is greater than the isoelectric point (pI1) or acid dissociation constant (pKa1) of the first ionic polymer and a volatile base or volatile acid. Volatilization of the volatile base or acid of the spray formulation changes the pH of the solution and changes the charge of the second ionic polymer initiating electrostatic interactions with the first ionic polymer through complex coacervation. Microcapsules formed by the complex coacervation process can stabilize bioactive components as well as control the release of the bioactive components for a variety of applications.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2021Date of Patent: March 28, 2023Assignee: THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIAInventors: Yuting Tang, Herbert Scher, Tina Jeoh Zicari

Patent number: 7012042Abstract: One aspect of the present invention is a sprayable composition for coating pipe for protecting it from one or more of root intrusion or root growth when the coated pipe is placed underground. Such sprayable formulation includes a 2,6-dinitroaniline herbicide; a polymer pellet impregnated with a 2,6-dinitroanililne herbicide-sorbed colloidal clay; and a film-forming polymer. Another aspect is pipe coated with the dried residue of a coating of a 2,6-dinitroaniline herbicide; a polymer pellet impregnated with a 2,6-dinitroaniline herbicide-sorbed colloidal clay; and a film-forming polymer, wherein the coated pipe is protected from one or more of root intrusion or root growth when the coated pipe is placed underground.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2003Date of Patent: March 14, 2006Assignee: Growguard, LLC, Inc.Inventors: Dominic A. Patent number: 6869914Abstract: A process for the preparation of a solvent-free suspension of a low-melting point water-insoluble solid agrochemical active ingredient, which comprises suspending 1-40% by weight of a silica-based carrier in 40 to 97% by weight of water in the presence of 1-40% by weight of anionic dispersant, heating the suspension thus obtained to a temperature above that of the active ingredient, and adding, with stirring, 1-25% by weight of a molten active ingredient with a melting point of <80° C. or a mixture of at least two active ingredients each having a melting point of <80° C. The present invention furthermore relates to the preparation of suspension concentrates, water-dispersible powders and water-dispersible granules based on the suspensions prepared via the abovementioned process.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2002Date of Patent: March 22, 2005Assignee: BASF AktiengesellschaftInventors: Matthias Bratz, Karl-Friedrich Jäger

Publication number: 20040266625Abstract: This invention provides repellent devices and methods for control of root intrusion and plant growth. One aspect of this invention is a geotextile in which 2,6-dinitroaniline is stored inside the individual filaments. The 2,6-dinitroaniline is stored in nanoclay or smectite clay reservoirs that control the rate of release of the 2,6-dinitroaniline. These reservoir particles are placed in the fibers during the melt spinning production of the fibers or by film-to-fiber processes. The particles are very thin and are oriented within the fibers during the spinning process. These clay reservoirs are superior to conventional carbon-based reservoirs, because the dispersed clay materials have a uniform, e.g., 1-nanometer, thickness that is needed to fit into individual filaments. Nonwoven, woven, or knitting processes are used to make the geotextile fabrics. The fibers of this invention prevent root intrusion into these fabrics.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2004Publication date: December 30, 2004Inventors: Edward S. Lipinsky, Dominic A. Patent number: 6821928Abstract: A method for reducing the rate of diffusion of a slow-release material through a host polymer material to increase the useful life of a slow-release product. An inert fine particulate inorganic material such as an intercalation material having a layered structure is incorporated into a mixture of the slow-release material and the host polymer. The intercalation material has its layers intercalated with molecules of the slow-release material which are accommodated within spaces between the layers of the intercalation material. The particulate material slows the diffusion rate of the slow-release material through the host polymer when compared with the diffusion rate of the same slow-release material through the same host polymer not containing the particulate material. In one embodiment, the intercalation material comprises a nano-clay, the host polymer is a polyolefin, and the slow-release material is a bioactive material such as dinitroanaline.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2002Date of Patent: November 23, 2004Inventor: Rodney Ruskin
