The sterically hindered ester, present in the amount of from 0.5 up to 15 parts by weight based on the total weight of the fluid composition, provides the fluid compositions with excellent fire resistance, without adversely affecting other physical properties of the fluid compositions such as hydrolytic stability. More specifically, the sterically hindered ester has a higher fire point (Fp) than the poly(alkylene glycol), which typically sufficiently lowers the S.F.P. of the fluid composition to allow the fluid composition to rate as a Factory Mutual Approved Fluid.

  • Patent number: 6417143
Abstract: Rolling bearings are proposed in which acoustic deterioration is suppressed which maintaining low dust, low torque and long life. Also, a grease for rolling bearings is proposed which is less likely to scatter under centrifugal force at high speed rotation, whereby preventing malfunction and noise of electronic information devices. A lubricating oil film of an ester-series oil having a dynamic viscosity at 40° C. of 35 mm2/s or over is formed on the friction surface of a rolling bearing. There is also provided a high-speed rolling bearing in which a lubricating grease having its worked penetration (JIS K2220) adjusted to 175-250 is retained therein. The grease is preferably prepared by adding a thickening agent containing 50 wt % or more of an aliphatic lithium salt 12-24 in carbon number to a base oil comprising 30 wt % or more of an ester oil having a dynamic viscosity at 40° C. of 10 mm2/s or over, and having its worked penetration (JIS K2220) adjusted to 175-250.

  • Patent number: 6413918
Abstract: Novel non-symmetric, partially fluorinated compositions and method of manufacture which are useful as lubricants or as additives to lubricant formulations involving the molecular structure: R1F—F′—R2—F″—R3h where R1f represents a wholly or partially fluorinated organic residue end group, F′ and F″ represent functional linkages which may be alike or different, R2 represents the backbone and R3h represents a non-fluorinated organic residue end group. Such compositions are produced by reacting a mixture of alcohols, mercaptans or amines containing at least one partially fluorinated compound and at least one non-fluorinated compound in the mixture, thus producing the R1f and the R3h residues, with a difunctional organic compound (e.g., diacid, dinitrile, disulfonyl halide, diisocyanate, diisothiocyanate, diphosphoryl halide or dithiophosphoryl halide).
