  • Patent number: 11773587
Abstract: A fire-rated receiver channel includes at least one intumescent or other fire-resistant material strip. The receiver channel can nest with a framing member, such as metal tracks, headers, header tracks, sill plates, bottom tracks, metal studs, wood studs or wall partitions, and placed at a perimeter of a wall assembly to create a fire block arrangement. In other arrangements, a track assembly includes two nested tracks, an inner track and outer track. The assembly is designed so that the outside width of the outer track is equal to or less than the outside width of the inner track to present a substantially flush external surface for attachment of exterior sheathing elements when the assembly is used in an external wall.

Abstract: Enclosures are used to attenuate noise produced by a high decibel producing device, such as a gas turbine engine or other rotating machinery. However, enclosures that achieve high Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings are generally expensive and immobile, whereas inexpensive and mobile enclosures are generally incapable of achieving high STC ratings. Accordingly, a composite noise-attenuating panel system is disclosed that can achieve the high STC ratings associated with immobile, site-erected enclosures, using subpanels that are separated by an air gap and an internal filler (e.g., mineral wool), while maintaining the weight, form factor, and ease of use associated with lightweight, modular mobile enclosures.

Also provided is an insulated attic, including a plurality of rafters, an attic floor and a thermal insulation comprising randomly distributed glass fibers in at least about 5 wt. % hollow expanded microspheres having a diameter of 20-140 microns, which have been expanded from about 6-40 microns. The hollow expanded microspheres reduce the thermal conductivity of the thermal insulation by at least about 5%, and have shown improvement up to 19.4% decreased thermal conductivity during tests at loadings from 30% to 257%. Additionally, calcium acetate and cupric carbonate additions to glass fiber insulation products showed improvement by at least about a 1% decrease in thermal conductivity.

  • Patent number: 8132381
Abstract: A system provides insulation products for a plurality of insulation wall cavities in buildings, where a substantial portion of the insulation wall cavities have a known nominal width. The system includes providing flangeless insulation products having a blanket of fibrous insulation material and having a facing material with a width substantially equal to the width of the insulation blanket, with the width of the insulation blanket and the width of the facing material being greater than the nominal width of the plurality of insulation cavities. The increased width of the facing material improves the seal of the facing material when the insulation product is placed within insulation wall cavities of the known nominal width in comparison to the seal provided by flanged insulation products applied with inset stapling to the same insulation wall cavities.

Abstract: A thermal barrier is formed into a hat-shape by folding sections of an extended length of board formed for assembly and insertion as a barrier to thermal radiation into a space between two joists or studs of a floor, wall, roof, or ceiling of a building for completely covering the space while also covering protruding edges of the joists or studs so as to reduce thermal energy transfer through the joists or studs themselves. A thermal barrier assembly is shown with an outer reflective surface and is also shown for assembly into a form having an inner enclosure for enclosing an inner thermal barrier also having a reflective surface for reducing thermal radiation transfer by reflection and protected from dust by virtue of the enclosure.

  • Patent number: 7934349
Abstract: A fire resistant wall includes a frame assembly utilizing tubular steel studs having at least one opening at the bottom and at the top, a stratum of fire resistant material disposed in the inter-stud space, and a trim assembly structured to protect the gaps between adjacent panels. The openings in the studs allow hot fluid within the studs to be exhausted in a remote location and cool fluid to be drawn in from another remote location. The stratum of fire resistant material disposed in the inter-stud space resists heat and flames contacting the lateral sides of the studs when the inner stratum of the firewall collapses, or when gaps appear between adjacent inner stratum panels. The trim assembly preferably includes a metal bar with a concave back surface disposed over the gap between adjacent panels and an intumescent caulk disposed at least partially within the gap. An intumescent caulk expands when exposed to heat and fills the gap between inner stratum panels.
