  • Patent number: 4945858
Abstract: A compression molded fiberglass reinforced resin grating formed of laterally spaced intersecting load bearing bars and cross bars is partially embedded within a layer of sand overlying the floor material of an animal stall defined by a vertical wall enclosure. At least the load bearing bars of the grating have flat top and bottom surfaces with opposite oblique sidewalls which taper towards each other from the bottom to the top. When embedded in the sand with the flat top surfaces exposed, the tapered load bearing bars resist downward movement into the sand layer due to the wider flat bottoms of the load bearing bars. Sand captured between opposed oppositely oblique walls of adjacent load bearing bars is solidly packed therebetween forming with the load bearing bars and the cross bars a solid mass to further resist downward movement, while permitting drainage of liquid waste therethrough. Soiled bedding may be removed from the top of the embedded grating by shoveling.

Each hexagonal subassembly included in the hexagonal network is reinforced by a first set of reinforcing elongated structural members disposed in a triangular pattern wherein three corners of the first reinforcing triangular subassembly disposed flush to one face of the hexagonal subassembly are respectively connected to one set of three alternate corners of the hexagonal subassembly and further reinforced by a second set of reinforcing elongated structural members disposed in a triangular pattern wherein three corners of the second reinforcing triangular subassembly disposed flush to the other face of the hexagonal subassembly are respectively connected to the other set of three alternate corners of the hexagonal subassembly.

Abstract: A fire-rated type suspension ceiling grid runner is disclosed having expansion means intermediate its ends which collapse when the runner expands due to elevated temperatures occurring during a fire or the like. The runner provides a boxlike panel supporting flange along the lower end of the web thereof in which slots are formed to define a flange segment and connecting legs. When the expansion means collapses, the flange segment is laterally displaced as a unit and remains connected to each adjacent portion of the boxlike flange by at least two longitudinally spaced legs. The displaced flange segment functions as a bridging beam which continues to connect the adjacent portions of the flange and maintain them in alignment so that a grid formed of the runners can continue to maintain proper support for panel even when fire conditions occur.

Abstract: A joint structure for a structural bar assembly, wherein a first bar and a hollow second bar are assembled by inserting of fitting a web of the first bar into a transverse slot of the second bar, and by restoring a stopper plate of the web elastically or forcibly to an upwardly inclined state so as to allow a top end of the stopper plate to engage or contact with an inner surface of a front wall of the second bar after the stopper plate passes through the slot. Joint portions of the first bar and the second bar are not pressed or hit strongly. There is no fear of rusting and eroding in the joint portions owing to injury of plating or painting layers.

Abstract: The invention provides a slot in the runner and lugs on a clip to allow sliding contact between the runner and the clip. This allows for expansion of the runner during a fire condition. The clip is fastened to the vertical web of an adjacent runner to fasten the runner structures together. Normally, a clip is provided on each end of one runner structure and it is mounted between two rigidly positioned other runner structures and the runner with the clips is capable of expansion and contraction under fire conditions without buckling.

Abstract: A plank grating assembly for forming decking, flooring or subflooring. Longitudinal metal planks have flanges on each side edge and trapezoidal openings in each flange. The planks are rigidly connected and supported by cross braces each having an inverted V shaped configuration. Each brace is slotted at both ends. The braces can be inserted through the openings in the plank flanges and then rotated to an assembled position in which the edges of adjacent openings are closely received in the slots of the braces.

Abstract: A construction apparatus for models, stagecraft, models of matrices and the like. Elements with locations at equal increments construct a mosaic of locations and points in a tetrahedron solid or portion thereof with each selected point in predetermined angular and linear relationship to every other selected point in the mosaic. A selected ratio in size constructs a scale model of a full-size structure with corresponding mosaics. Components rotate at any location. Adjustable elements select any point in relation to said mosaic. Any component is movable to any corresponding location in said mosaic. An integral connector may include two parts facing outwardly on opposite sides of a location. First part includes a resilient snap-ring in a retaining groove adjacent to a polygonal recess. The first part engages a second part with a polygonal protrusion at a location in a second element. The edges of said protrusion expand said snap-ring to engage the two parts in a predetermined orientation.
